- Zzyw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+60Cool vid, but didn't Coldplay already do this a while ago?
- swimmingbird67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29wow... i didn't believe it... and then i saw it!
- hernam19, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19new fan here.
- jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Heres the coldplay video, very cool as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Kd7IGPyeg - djbetts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15true, the idea of shooting a video in reverse isn't totally new. but i've seen all three of these bands mentioned live and mutemath is, by far, the best performance i've ever seen.
- rodon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Spike Jonze did a video for The Pharcyde back in 1996 that was shot in one take completely in reverse. I'd think that Jonze wasn't the first to do something like this.
- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10How do they do the reverse lip movement I'm stumped.
- Ubernero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10now, THAT, is how you do a music video.
- jonyoh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I've seen them a few times in person and they are just unbelievable. I have NEVER seen better entertainers, and i've seen a LOT of good shows.
- bnitro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16Mute Math is awesome, cant wait to see their vid for Chaos
- TriangleMan82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You just have to sing it backwards. If you listen to the song backwards and imitate those sounds your lips will make the right movements when you watch it in reverse. I saw Jack Johnson live and he demonstrated it before he sang Sitting, Waiting, Wishing. It's not too difficult.
- ScarHawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This video is impressive from a technical standpoint, but personally it just doesn't seem to capture the band very well. Dugg though because its Mute Math, even if it happens to be my least favorite of all their songs..
For all of you who are just being exposed to them though, this is not their best asset. You HAVE to see this band live. They are probably the best live band in the world. Its hard to explain and even a bit hard to capture on film but the energy and antics at their shows is just amazing. Look around on YouTube or some other place to see what I mean about their live shows. - AssProphet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Agreed, my favorite live show was MuteMath & Jonezetta. Simply awesome!
- domataos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Jack Johnson did it too. Original, but not the most original thing ever.
- mrtomatoes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yeah, but you have to admit this is still very different
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Link to Jack Johnson song..."Sitting Waiting Wishing"...http://youtube.com/watch?v=BIw60yMLiqg
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Mutemath is one of the best Live bands ever.... and that's coming from a digger who has seen 200+ live bands in the past 1.5 years.
check them out. Thier song "Reset" live is maybe the most amazing thing I have ever whitnessed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2NV4ov8oas - alecks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7how was the guy able to sing along, in reverse? he clearly does it as paint is coming off of him, so its not faked in just that part. Did he memorize and perfectly time, the movements of his lips??
- anaesthetica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Pharcyde did it as well, directed by Spike Jonze:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGnD4-3l6zU - bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The earliest use of backwards footage in a music video would probably be The Beatles "Strawberry Fields Forever" (1967). This technique has been used in lots of videos but my personal favorite is God Lives Underwater's "From Your Mouth" directed by Roman Coppola. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjtDZ82oZB8
- deepdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Here is the reverse scene from top secret! God I love youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVmIhd1gwpk - diggerphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't think I've watched a music video all the way thru in like, 15 years.
That was awesome. - C00001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Word.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGnD4-3l6zU (youtube, but crappy quality)
http://mp.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=2&pmmsid=1408952 (good quality, but aol video...) - ziki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I want:
A) High Quality Version
B) Reversed Version
KTHXBYE - Rkstar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Here's the video of Coldplay with "The Scientist" back in '03... all in reverse. http://rkstar.com/video/playvid?musicvideo/cdplsnts
- artificial001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3mute math is a great band. i saw them in concert last september and they were awesome.
- ScarHawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here is a good example of their improv and energy on stage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn9luuuI3gs
They always have a session like this at about the middle of their set, using different things in different venues and improvising so each and every show is different. I just...can't say enough about how awesome this band is. - asuraci, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A Japanese band called L'arc en Ciel did it too a long while ago. They take theirs pretty extreme. Here it is on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86svF79tPfU
Admittedly it's pretty much "Hey let's throw as much crap as we can find on this place," but it's still pretty cool. :P - Ruqsaq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5the cold play video is less impressive because of the cuts. It didn't consist of long single takes like the Mute Math. The only cut I could see on one viewing was when the lead singer came really close to the camera.
- FiP0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm waiting to see on the front page "TOP 10 list of music videos done in reverse"
- FiP0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Some of Weird Al's "Amish Paradise" is also done in reverse..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsfVw9xxoNY ( 2:50 ) - pasher1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Link to Jack Johnson song..."Sitting Waiting Wishing"."
Went to YouTube and got: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Viacom International, Inc."
Ugh!!! Viacommie - Ozzy73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2gguD !oediv looc ytterP
- chowderdick, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10nifty video... mediocre music
- Zoshchenko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love the dumbasses on YouTube:
"FAKE - I know how they did it!"
"This was all done backwards!"
Hope most of them never discover Digg...or have they already?!?! - whymanwhy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Exactly Spike jonez did it with the pharcyde wayyyy back. The song is called drop.
- bradschl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3At first I thought, "Hey, a music video in reverse. That could be interesting." Then I see it's freakin Mute Math! This made my weekend.
- nawlins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Love Mute Math.
Too bad they don't come home to New Orleans as much as I would like. - deepdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3More...The director of Top Secret, David Zucker told me that they deliberately put the dog in the scene to prove that they didn't cheat. It is entirely one take.
- oneSaint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Another Full Length Video Here by Jack Johnson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrZwGGKGkuU
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wingnut summed up my opinion on mute math pretty well. I enjoy listening to them, but my very first impression, and I'm talking within the first 10 seconds of listening to their first track (the amazing intro one without vocals) was that they sound a little like Radiohead. Then "Typical" came on, and I thougth they sounded even more like Radiohead.
But that's alright, I like radiohead. More radiohead is not a bad thing. Then the vocals came on, and I thought "WTF. Seal?". So that's pretty much how I explain Mute Math to people I know. "Musically, it's an interesting mix of Radiohead and Mobius Band. Vocally, it's like a mix of Seal, Sting, and.. Stabbing Westward?"
The "rap"-esque song on track 3 or 4 is amazing, though. Only the album intro song beats it.
And by the way, I liked the reverse music video technique back when Spike Jonze did it in the early 90's. (Pharcyde, wasn't it?) This is nothing new. - Jergens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Been done, just not to the same effect.
Steve Vai - In my Dreams
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73DaKSDS4g0 - Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank God for Digg, Youtube and iTunes. I wouldn't have considered buying this song before seeing this video on Youtube, and Digg was that vehicle to expose it. Props to Ccunni for posting this, the video is awesome! Well off to iTunes I go. :)
- eN1X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saw these guys live in Hollywood. KICKED MAJOR ASS! They now have me as a lifelong fan.
If you like the music, do yourself a favor and see these guys live.. - Nedlog23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice video . . must have been a bitch to make.
Never heard Mute Math before that I know of.
I will be investigating their album . . I definitely like this song . .alot - Ozzy73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1VideoDownloader for FireFox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2390 - demps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. I had never seen Mute Math until they opened for the Fray (friend made me go), and I think Mute Math should have been the band headlining that tour. By far the best band I have ever seen live. Stunning.
- iikoizy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I want to see OK Go do a video in reverse. That would be like awesome + awesome.
- WildBil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beck or Bush did one in reverse (its been done)
- joshpowell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who says digg isn't biased?
