- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -5/+749Man, he used to be so. *****. cool.
- nottanner, on 06/26/2009, -0/+489Notice how he doesn't have dancers surrounding him, he doesn't need them.
- EtherealSOC, on 06/26/2009, -10/+389The greatest performer who ever lived.
It's strange, but I'd be happier if he died at the age of 80, old and broken and giving society enough time to view his work through the passage of time and eras. I'd even be happier if he died at the height of his fame, in the late 1980's, and he would have been immortalized as a hero of epic proportions.
Now he dies a spectacle, loved by many but destested by many as well, and this spectrum is so wide and yet so polar that it doesn't reflect the kind of creative genius and visionary philanthropist that he became. At his root he was a very sad and scared man, living a twisted existence on the verge of reality, and even more than grieve at his passing, I feel sorry that the world might not understand what it just lost... - petethepanda, on 06/25/2009, -3/+235(Moonwalk @ 3:50)
RIP. :( - tattoojoo, on 06/26/2009, -2/+181I remember pausing and rewinding my VCR recording of this performance over and over and over again to figure out how he did the moonwalk.
- ThatEvilGuy, on 06/26/2009, -2/+171He was an amazing performer and entertainer, unlike 95% of talentless ***** today,
What Ali was to Boxing, Jackson was to dancing, amazing moves. - BlackSheep720, on 06/26/2009, -1/+169the man had style.
- badumbching, on 06/26/2009, -0/+149Admit it, you wish you could do that.
- TwwIX, on 06/26/2009, -4/+144Shamone *****!
- OCchevy02, on 06/25/2009, -7/+129R.I.P. MJ
- dienaked, on 06/26/2009, -5/+115Amazing how the death of MJ has made the story of the Iran election just disappear from the news.
- SilentScream, on 06/26/2009, -0/+106Love the bass track on Billie Jean.
- Twoje, on 06/26/2009, -1/+79God, no *****. His moves are ***** incredible...if I could've pulled those off in high school, I wouldn't be a virgin right now.
/cry - Import98, on 06/26/2009, -11/+88The guy basically created pop music.
NO ONE will ever achieve what he did. Not just to music but he was a pure dancer as well. A shame he died so young - ripple123, on 06/26/2009, -2/+72the moonwalk is what you get when you max out your CHA and DEX scores.
- pilara, on 06/25/2009, -8/+77He represents the coming to a close of an an ERA. He shuffled me thru nursery school, grade school and high school unscathed by offensive lyrics. Goodbye Moonwalk, Hello stinky leg.
- blackinthmiddle, on 06/26/2009, -4/+70@verevi
I'm probably wasting my time on your ignorance, but for those too young to remember, you have to realize that this guy did thriller, the number one selling album of all time, at a time when it simply wasn't cool to be black. As a young black man growing up, it wasn't even about his music. I never really gave it any thought, but he basically let all of the black kids in my neighborhood know that you can achieve and even get white people to like and appreciate your hard work and that there were no excuses if you failed.
Your comment is like saying Jackie Robinson wasn't the greatest. Just like Jackie Robinson, he transcended what he did, race and any other barrier there was. Nobody saw Michael Jackson as a great black performer. They saw him as a great performer. Trying to reduce Michael Jackson to a guy with "goofy outfits" is like saying Jackie Robinson was a good hitter. It kinda misses the whole essence of the man!
Now if you want to talk about his impact on music? C'mon, what are you, 5? The music video was basically his invention. When he and director John Landis did Thriller...look if I have to explain this to you, you're either a troll or too young to know any better. The choreographed dance routines you see in videos and in concerts? Janet Jackson? Paula Abdul? Britney Spears? Madonna? Justin Timberlake? I can go on and on and on...and on! Yeah, that was Michael Jackson. - mohsenxp, on 06/26/2009, -9/+74There will never be anyone, ever, who will come close to what he achieved.
I have no doubt that even the next generation will still be inspired by his music. - MisterEX, on 06/26/2009, -2/+62@verevi
Here's just a few songs Michael Jackson wrote himself:
Billie Jean
Beat It
Another Part of Me
Wanna Be Starting Something
Don't Stop Till You Get enough
Working Day and Night
Bad
The Way You Make Me Feel
I Just Can't Stop Loving You
Dirty Diana
Smooth Criminal
Leave Me Alone
Heal the World
Black or White
Who Is It
Will You Be There
They Don't Care About Us
Stranger In Moscow
Earth Song
D.S.
Childhood
Speechless
And yes, he did write these songs. Can you count how many made the Top 10?
On a side note...
Other hits were done by Rod Temperton like Thriller and Rock With You while others other people wrote for him or with him like Paul McCartney, R.Kelly, Babyface, James Ingram, etc. - Kinmar, on 06/26/2009, -0/+57MJ didnt just dance, he made it seem like he was floating across the stage. This video gave me chills.
- gumballer, on 06/26/2009, -5/+59Greatest entertainer of all time. Rest in peace Michael.
- bulgingbritches, on 06/26/2009, -1/+54I didn't start feeling sad till my commute this morning was all MJ songs from my childhood.
RIP - sperez0986, on 06/26/2009, -1/+51Damn. You just won't see talent like this ever again.
- starscream45, on 06/26/2009, -1/+49He said he doesn't need them. He never said he never used any.
- gregdogum, on 06/26/2009, -1/+45Dude, seriously, that was well said. I dugg that. RIP King of Pop.
- BryanG412, on 06/26/2009, -0/+41I don't even like pop music, but Michael Jackson used to be such a great entertainer. It's really a shame what happened to him later in life. I watched a documentary on MJ a while ago, and when he was on tour with the Jackson 5 he had to pretend to sleep while his father and brothers brought women back to the hotel and had sex with them. Not saying it's an excuse, but perhaps this attributed to his behavior later in life.
- planetmatt, on 06/26/2009, -1/+41He didn't invent the Moonwalk. The move already existed but was known as the Backslide. Jackson just popularised it.
He did invent the special shoes needed to do the Smooth Criminal 45 degree lean though. - immatellyouwhat, on 06/26/2009, -0/+37Neil Armstrong?
- IsraGeek, on 06/26/2009, -4/+40Classic. Thanks for sharing this
- jamdogg, on 06/26/2009, -0/+35Watched with a lump in my throat.
- diceau, on 06/26/2009, -2/+33The talent you knew as Michael Jackson died long ago ... but it's how I for one will remember him.
- kjones555, on 06/26/2009, -5/+35@ verevi
Seriously dude? There are no words to describe your ignorance other than "dugg down". - dang46, on 06/26/2009, -0/+29Exactly...... Zombies not dancers!
- MisterEX, on 06/26/2009, -2/+29@blackinthemiddle
I couldn't help but nod in agreement with everything your wrote. Well said, man. Well said. - ChiriSan, on 06/26/2009, -0/+26Wasn't around during The Beatles and Elvis days but their music strongly reverberates till this day...I'm sure Michael Jackson's music will follow suite for future generations.
I'm glad and fortunate that I was part of the generation that got to experience the King of Pop do his thing. No question MJ made one of the largest or largest impact in the music scene. Hope history will treat him well despite all the "Wacko Jacko" shenanigans! - mohsenxp, on 06/26/2009, -5/+29Wow people still making the 72virgin reference thing?
Way to highlight some major ignorance fool. - schavira, on 06/26/2009, -0/+23and it definitely hasn't disappeared. On CNN right now it seems like 1/3 of the news is MJ, 1/3 is Mark Sanford, and 1/3 is Iran. The death of best selling artist of all time definitely merits coverage I think, whether or not you like his music. He made a huge impact on this world, that is undeniable.
- mort8824, on 06/26/2009, -20/+43He will continue to moon walk above us, forever and ever.
Coolest man that ever lived - KSUdesigner, on 06/26/2009, -0/+23Is Gweneth Paltrow a freak because she named her daughter Apple? Is Jason Lee a freak because he named his kid Pilot Inspektor? What about Sylvester Stalone? He named his kid Sage Moonblood. There are plenty of others out there. Your freak status is not determined by what you named your children.
Yes, Michael was an odd, odd man, and you probably could consider him a freak, but not on the basis of what he named his children. He may have done some pretty despicable things in his recent years, but his legacy will forever be that he was the man who changed the face of music forever. 100 years from now do you really think he will be remembered as "the man who was tried and acquitted of child molestation" or "the man who invented pop music and influenced every musician since"? - boombume, on 06/26/2009, -0/+23So you won't give a pedophile your money.. you'll just listen to his words, his music, and sing along happily with his creation?
Get over yourself, *****. - roostersheep, on 06/26/2009, -2/+24OMG IT'S BIGP3RM! I LOVE YOU BIGP3RM!
- krakow056, on 06/26/2009, -3/+24Mark my words: his death will unify Iran in one voice and everything is going to be allright.
- alexkim804, on 06/26/2009, -3/+24worst joke of the week: When Farrah Fawcett arrived in Heaven God granted her one wish. She wished for all the children of the world to be safe. So He killed Michael Jackson.
i apologize. - Worldchrisis, on 06/26/2009, -0/+19It's retarded is what it is.
- Feraldr00d, on 06/26/2009, -2/+21That's an understatement. Live, he oozes style.
--EDIT--
oozed*
Not used to him being deceased just yet. - fxu1989, on 06/26/2009, -1/+20What are you talking about?
This generation has Soulja Boy!!!
Do I even need to put /s? - Reebee52, on 06/26/2009, -2/+21@verevi
I would say Elvis and the Beatles contributed to rock and roll. Before MJ, 'pop' just meant popular. But MJ made 'pop' an actual genre. - Kuci06, on 06/26/2009, -5/+22One of the greatests to ever do it
- lintmonkey, on 06/26/2009, -2/+18This generation has Kanye West.
God help us all. - dinot, on 06/26/2009, -1/+16I think BIGP3RM's first album, "The Incredible Gratification of Self Righteousness" was a game changer. I've never heard music like that before, and I fear I never will again.
