- Cowtastic, on 10/20/2008, -10/+62I'm not a fan of him, but he is a good lyricist and definitely better than a lot of the ***** that's considered rap right now.
dugg - HappyScrappy, on 10/20/2008, -2/+30Oh see, when I saw the article title, I figured it was Slick Rick.
- Shogi, on 10/20/2008, -13/+38I generally hate rap, but Eminem's stuff is usually really amazing. From the serious pieces to the just for fun pieces, I have a lot of respect for this man's creative talents.
- zeptobyte, on 10/20/2008, -7/+29You don't have to listen to him, but it's hard to not respect his talent.
- kevlar21, on 10/19/2008, -8/+29His new song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcQUlDATTnU
Pic on the video is kinda confusing - bhavinp, on 10/19/2008, -9/+30Well you gotta hand it to him, at least he's more creative then other rappers. Other rapper simply rent cars and women for music videos and rap about how much money they have. Although not really a eminen fan, gotta give him credit for atleast making the music sound decent.
- Zincyams, on 10/19/2008, -13/+30"That's why they call me Slim Shady...I'm back...I'm back"
- feezus, on 10/20/2008, -5/+21@Foenetik
I'm an avid alternitive listener, and my expertise is not rap. If you can't acknowledge the brilliance of this artist, whether rap is your genre of choice or not, then I think you may just be bitter.
I guess it just reminds me of all the time I spend defending rap artists against people that claim that rap takes no talent. I challenge them to make a living off of it themselves if anyone could do it. - swrostmore, on 10/20/2008, -17/+32lost genius of rap...lolol
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 10/20/2008, -2/+14I don't give a rat's ass about Hip-Hop - the most cliché-ridden genre of them all -, but I was always amazed by Eminem's raw talent. Yes, he is homophobic, misogynic and rude, but he is also frickin brilliant. And some critic - I'm paraphrasing - said he is entitled to all this hating, because he hates no-one more than himself.
I wonder if his new album will be relevant to anyone but his hardcore fanbase - but when I watch Palin & Co. on CNN while listening to "White America", I think the answer is clear. - vinceislegend, on 10/20/2008, -3/+14Maybe I'm the only one, but I dugg it because it was a good article.
- machocheese34, on 10/20/2008, -3/+13your comment is very original and witty
- AdeleMor, on 10/19/2008, -12/+21His new song "I'm Having a Relapse" is really good.
- onsenguy, on 10/20/2008, -4/+13I think the failure of "Mosh" to actually make a difference hit him hard so he went back to his old self-destructive... self.
Maybe he's matured a bit and I sure hope so. He has the creativity to make rap truly funny, properly satirical and seriously moving (Stan anybody?). - AdInventive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+8His wordplay can't really be matched even if one does not like the content of his message.
- rbk303, on 10/20/2008, -1/+8"Genius and (c)rap, two words that shouldn't be in the same sentence."
I bet that gets huge laughs at the rodeo. - randman89, on 10/20/2008, -2/+9But cared enough to click on the story and post a comment...?
- xptoast, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6boredom
- OfNumbers, on 10/19/2008, -0/+6Seems like "relapse" is the most popular word in rap now.
- Mujokan, on 10/20/2008, -2/+7If I have to hear another song about picking up a girl in a club, with virtually nothing on the track but the vocals and some tired beat, "featuring" someone who's in about ten other songs out at the same time, I think I may throw my stereo off the balcony.
But thankfully not all hip hop is like that. - travis6690, on 10/20/2008, -1/+6Mosh should have made it better, it's one of the better anti-government songs.
Seriously, listen to it again, watch the video, now that Bush is almost out of office, and look at how much damage he's done. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5If that's one of the best rap songs...pass.
And don't get me wrong, "Lose Yourself" is a f--kin' miraculous piece, lyrically, musically, and thematically. - ngmcs8203, on 10/20/2008, -4/+9$1 says foenetik is an ICP douche.
- johnnyblazepw, on 10/20/2008, -1/+6Translation:
"I'm old school or a redneck and if the person on the song cant play guitar then he isn't relevant. The only hip hop I'm aware of is mainstream stuff that focuses primarily on money and hoes so I wont even give this eminem track a chance."
I feel sorry for you people. I listen to just about all kinds of music and wouldn't like it at all if 1 genre was all I could listen to because of my ignorance.
oh and nice work on the cRAP references.. I've never heard that before. You are a very clever soul. - lootpack, on 10/19/2008, -9/+13why? he is a great artist man
- kinerry, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4ice cube yes, britney spears not so much
- flyinghigh, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4i used to say the same thing in middle school.
- ZenMojo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Is it creepy that I had a dream last night about listening to an Eminem song I'd never heard before and saying, "Holy *****...Eminem's back?"
- rbk303, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4You like fast, shredding guitars and double bass. Hip-hop is about clever wordplay and near-tribal percussion. It's simple once you get over it.
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -18/+22Who cares?
- rbk303, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4I don't think it's safe to assume that anyone who is a fan of Eminem is ONLY a fan of mainstream garbage. Also, Soulja Boy and Eminem are not even remotely related.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Dugg down for the stooopid still.
- ZER0JACK, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4Weird Al - "I'm Having a Prolapse"
- Jolly81, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Deja Vu?
- AdInventive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Supposedly he broke his knee playing basketball with 50cent which is why he was bed ridden and put on a lot of weight, according to an interview I heard.
- DeathJux, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Um, just off the top of my head:
Aesop Rock
Atmosphere
Sage Francis
Brother Ali
Eyedea
Mac Lethal
All amazing. Check out Def Jux (hence my moniker) and Rhyme Sayers Entertainment, both of those labels have tons of amazing hip-hop artists on them. - ryansmith18, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4You probably haven't listenend to a single Eminem album. It's quite a bit different than your run-of-the-mill thug rap. I'm by no means a rap fan, but I love listening to Eminem.
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4I'm not denying his talent, but I'm only pointing out a common occurrence in the history of American pop culture. it's whenever a white artist co-opts a predominately black music form he/she is granted some Great White Hope status, I call it the Elvis Syndrome. Tommy Mottola(head of Sony Music) has even said a white man who can move/sound like a black man is a goldmine. Funny, Eminem happens to be the #1 selling hip-hop/rap artist of all time, it's hard to argue it's his talent alone when Britney Spears is one of top selling artists of all time.
- Protoss, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Slug, Doseone and a lot of anticon's related stuff, and Aesop Rock are just a few of other fairly successful white rapper I know of.
- Probatus, on 10/20/2008, -5/+8"Lost genius of rap" - Buried as inaccurate.
- Zincyams, on 10/20/2008, -2/+5Listen to Illmatic, it's actually one of the best rap albums I've ever heard.
- randman89, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4hmm....
- cardyology, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4Only 1$?
- AdInventive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Slug (Atmosphere) is really quite good.
- ATLien74, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Who? Never heard of him. What is he your cousin or some *****?
- CJDarkhaven, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2@kinerry: If Eminem is in the top forty of the Greatest Lyricists to Ever Live category (meaning, he's #40 or further back) then fine, whatever. You CANNOT tell me he's better than the ***** rappers that've been out since the word 'go'. Chuck D, Eric Sermon, KRS-1, Big Daddy Kane, Marley Marl, Slick Rick, Ice Cube, Dres of the Black Sheep, Q-Tip, D Nice, Masta Ace, Jeru tha Damaja, Redman, the list goes on and on. He CAN'T beat their lyric stylings. Hell, I'll even throw out the best battle rappers of all time, MC Lyte and LL Cool J (yeah, the R&B dude). He can't beat them. I'm not even gonna go to some of the later dudes, 'cause every member of the Wu will make him sound silly with the first sentences out their mouths. "Triumph" by the Wu Tang Clan is proof positive. Em has a flow, but his ***** is elementary against the people that perfected the style. I'll give him this though, he's better than 95% of the bastards that are killing rap for ALL of us these days.
And seriously, if he was celebrated as a 'hero' in your 'ghetto', then y'all must have had gangs that fought over the street cred of Dockers vs. Ambercrombie. I'm just saying... - Coffeedemon, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2"Ad hominem attacks, so typical of your kind"
Someone needs to look up the meaning of words BEFORE they use them. - PatrickFlorida, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2What instrument does he play?
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Its funny as *****, when you see these hardcore gangsters bobbing heads to some pussy chick singing.
- rbk303, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Attack!? N****, I sunk your battleship.
