- contextclouds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22No, Blur.
Who reunited last year - BlackAle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I guess you didn't know that Damon Albarn from Blur helped create Gorillaz.
- Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I think you mean 'Does anyone remember Song 2 from every movie trailer released between Summer of 97 and Summer of 99, at which point every trailer started using Allstar?'
- DrOBoogie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The lead singer of blur is also the guy behind Gorillaz....
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19They are only terrible if you only like songs such as Song 2. Blur was not a heavy neo-punk band, that one song has gotten them mis characterized that way by people who have not actually listened to Blur. Blur came out of the "shoegazing" movement which is characterized by slow beats and droning psychedelic guitar parts. They later turned to a more experimental noise/lofi sound as Damon became more and more interested in alternative music. So no, they aren't the British Greenday, but they are certainly an excellent and innovative band.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Song 2, man ***** song 2, its all about sing, coffee and tv and pretty much most every other song.
Anyway this is only news if Damon Albarn agrees, without Damon blur is nothing. - timc1956, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Digging brivapor up for being obvious management material.
- markperia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16when I feel heavy metal
- NinjitsuStylee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Jumbo jet. Not "Jamochan".
What the hell's a Jamochan anyway? - edosmund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Blur are anything but one-hit wonders. They were around for a while so many of the younger diggers may not be familiar with albums before "Blur", which featured "Song 2". "Parklife" and "The Great Escape" both had songs that were popular on Alternative Radio stations in the early to mid-90's.
Frankly, as good as "Song 2" is, it is not one of their better songs. - coxon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Brilliant news! Best news I've ever read on Digg. Note my username ;)
- drake89, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10in a chemical world, its very very very cheap.
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9How dare you compare those soccer-mom blowing hosebags with the likes of Blur.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Its got nothing to do with Diggers being young, its got to do with them being American. Song 2 was Blur's only hit song in the USA, they never really broke the USA. In fact they wrote Song 2 as a cynical attempt to break the USA market, and guess what - it worked as expected, it was a hit, but it didn't translate into any other success unfortunately.
You're right though, its far from their best. - Beatmiser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Digging brivapor down for being a mincing idiot who knows zero about music history.
- modsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7insovietrussia, who are you kidding? Blur's height of popularity was pretty much 1994-1998.
- t3soro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11and im pins and im needles
- posneg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@cogitatorx
you're a tool and are probably no older than 15.
blur and smashmouth can't even be compared. they're dissimilar in too many ways. it's like comparing the space shuttle with grass or the ocean with a dirty phonebook. do those comparisons make any sense? (the answer is no.) - loki440, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8A waste of your precious time? Did someone force you to read the article douchebag?
- TheSheepMafia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Well, Smashing Pumpkins are starting up again. And by that, I mean Billy Corgan is stealing the name and releasing a new CD.
Wow, ***** Billy Corgan - insovietrussia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Blur was a band that was very popular in, hmm... about 1999.
If you don't know who Blur are, why are are you reading and commenting on this article? - crosswalkernie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8A new Blur record would be orgazmic. It's really exciting to think of what they might sound like after the Gorillaz....
*drool* - moosebaloney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Maybe you'd prefer a new Slipknot CD.
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Are they the ones who sang "Unbelievable" or "Possum Kingdom"? It's hard to keep the one hit wonders straight."
lol more ignorance.. one hit wonder? jesus.
as for "unbelievable," that's EMF. - cjvos1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5because american pop music is so great. haha. in fact, are there any good american bands around at the moment???
- moosebaloney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5... in America yes. "Boys + Girls" might be nearly as recognizable but everybody thinks that it's a Pet Shop Boys song for some god awful reason.
- kevlarbaboon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6***** agreed; best news I've ever seen on digg too. Great to hear!
- loaff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just for the record I'm an American and I love Blur... and they aren't one hit wonders in the least. In fact, the song that got me hooked wasn't Song 2, it was Country House.
- SeaOverflowing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Hope so. I like their songs!
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lives in a house, a very big house in the country...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6am i the only one read that as are blur recruiting??
i thought i might have had a chance to play in blur for about 5 seconds until my brain kicked in,
i need sleep lol - beauc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4damon is the absolute man.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -2/+4heard a man who had no lungs
- moosebaloney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is "Inventiveness" even a word? You should write album reviews for Pitchfork
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bought their work for years, and there's the odd Blur track that's still part of the soundtrack some of the Free software I write now - nicely arranged music seems to poke me in the neurons.
Viva la Blur - oh, and don't be a DRM bitch, Damon - I for one took the last two Gorillaz CDs I bought back to the shop and got a refund because Demon Days was a DRM-infested coaster that wouldn't play in my car or my computer thanks to the "trick data session" - and I enjoy that music only on the radio for nothing now.
Sort it out, because NO band is worth paying to support DRM. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well Damon has said he still has some stuff left to do with Blur, just he was waiting for Graham to come back after he left them.
However I'm not entirely sure how long a Blur reunion would last cause Damon has been working real hard on his Gorillaz movie project.
I think it would be good to finally be able to finish the history of Blur without half of the members leaving during the middle of an album projection like what happened with Think Tank.
But all those who think it's going to sound like Gorillaz, I would say you might have better luck expecting similar sound from his last project, The Good, The Bad, & The Queen.
Anyways I hope them the best luck, as they all are good musicians, and for those who say Blur sucks, why are you even bothering reading this article? - kevlarbaboon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Think Tank was pretty well received critically and financially and it's probably my second favorite Blur record ("13" being my favorite album of all time). Their sound had really matured for the better. The Brit-pop Blur days were good by all means, but I'm glad the last three albums had shown dramatic difference in style and mood.
Anyway, The Good and the Bad and The Queen was alright, but a new Blur album would be fantastic with Coxon coming back (even though I felt they stayed afloat fine without him on Think Tank). - 00Sean00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll never understand people who want a band to keep plopping out the same sound over and over. Think Tank was an evolution in Blur's sound, mostly as a result of Damon's travels abroad, integrating some of the music he and other band members became fond of while touring.
If you want to listen to a band re-hash and re-release the same old *****, listen to Bon Jovi and U2. - inactionman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Inventiveness and a refusal to keep churning out the same song album after album are what have made Blur one of the best acts from any country to emerge in the last 20 years. The quality has been patchy of late but still heads and shoulders above anything Oasis have plagued us with. I genuinely pity our friends in the US that think the Damon Albarn starts with Song 2 and ends with Demon Days.
- humpy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5see first post.
- dmotz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All the people... so many people... and they all want Blur back! Song 2 did kinda suck, but there's really only one thing to say at a time like this;
Parklife! - modsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Hopefully this album isn't balls like Think Tank was. I suspect this will be one of those reunions where they put out one less then successful album then disband permanently. The album will probably do will in the UK, but Blur is essentially a 1 hit wonder in the US because of Song 2, even though they have tonnes of other great songs. If you want to hear some good blur listen to For Tomorrow, End Of The Century or There's No Other Way, among many others.
- xekko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Think Tank was (is) an amazingly good album, highly underrated. Blur are so much more than just Song 2 and their other chart hits.
- stubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Albarn has indicated he intends to leave the Gorillaz behind after that project.
- ksmith34746, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg is about reading stuff that's interesting to you. Not about reading things about the most important things to you. This definitely defines interesting
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hmm, I get dugg down for saying that why exactly? I'll never understand this place.
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Awesome! Nobody cared about Blur until Damon got big with Gorillaz and the Good the Bad and the Queen. Let's hope they make this record so even those are genuinely excited will just pirate it!
let Blur rest in peace. - posneg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Think Tank was a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE album.
I have everything from Blur up until that point and still listen to them almost every day. I even have Graham Coxon's first album (some songs are good, some not). (I assume he has more than one btw.)
If their music is at all like Think Tank I will... I don't know what I'll do but I definitely won't buy it!
If they go back to their Britpop glory days, when they feuded with Suede, it'll be a welcomed event. -
