- manikd1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+80Can't deny the soul and musical skills. All your Justin Timberlakes and Ushers woulnd't be what they are without MJ period.
- AddSmith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+68Ridiculously talented... That "MTV from the 80's" post reminded me of when he was just unstoppable.
- houler, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61No debate that he's talented. I'll give you that, but if "who they're sleeping with" is kids, everyone should care.
- AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+55Too bad most of the entertainment industry is based on appearance. He's an amazing musician, but a poor decision maker. When you look like a freak show you get treated like one.
- kumicho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44no it's because oprah's weighing it down...
- Spanktacular, on 10/12/2007, -18/+56Oh, if only we could go back and eliminate MJ so we wouldn't have to endure him or JT or Usher. Just imagine, a world with taste...
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -9/+40The fact of the matter is, Michael Jackson is innocent. Not a SHRED of evidence was found during that trial, the accusing family was dodgy as HELL, and the DA had a clear, and proven vendetta.
Michael Jackson has been TORE DOWN so many times, but it has never stopped him. THAT is amazing.
Here's a vid from years after this interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pApRtJFXXe8 - creativeembassy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Heh, that was interesting. I'm 21, and I don't really remember the Jackson Era, except for maybe the very end of it. All I know is that he's weird. It's neat to see why people really loved him, and that he actually has talent.
Even looking up more information on him right now, I'm finding out why he's white. Apparently he had vitiligo, which is a condition black people get when parts of their skin turn white. So instead of making the white parts blacker, which is hard, he decided to either start getting bleached or go through a depigmentation process. The latter, while possible, can make your skin especially susceptible to sunburn or worse... which is why he has so many of those damn umbrellas and scarves!
I honestly can't call him a freak anymore. Yes, he should stay away from kids for a while and learn how to act appropriately around them. But he's not as weird as I once thought he was. - PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25The whole "Michael made himself white thing" is so idiotic I cannot express. It was a stupid tabloid rumour, that never, ever, ever had any substance. Instead of feeling sympathy for the man, who is in the spotlight constantly, contracting vitiligo, the tabs spin it around and blame him! I don't know about you, but that is ***** sick.
It is no wonder that Michael is such a recluse. He can't contract a skin condition without being blamed, and called a freak. It's very sad. - canyonblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22ahhhh... that was filmed years ago, well before the trial.
- scjones, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25As usual Oprah has to try and ***** it up. Shut up bitch, your bass notes are *****.
- PixelVision, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22It's amazing how many people assume he had plastic surgery to make himself white, as if he hates being black. I suggest everyone be like CreativeEmbassy and find out something today!
- DrNoDoze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18yes, but Kenny, cannot dance and sing like Mike. In terms of pure entertainment it is pretty hard to beat MJ.
- webdevil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18You can tell it was filmed years ago because Oprah is fat...........well fatter then usual.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I grew up in the MJ era... I was about 10 when he was HUGE and all I can say is that it is a real shame that all of this legal crap has been going on for so long becuase it retracts from the amazing talents this guy has.
On a side note, I'm not saying he's not at fault for the legal problems of his... He is a true master of his art, but he is also a true master of wierd. - jexdawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I never knew that. Explains a lot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Faster does not equal better, Merr... Listen to the dynamics in MJ's voice... He's got amazing control of volume.
Both are pretty amazing though. - roomforpanic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15"not the colour of their underwear or who they're sleeping with."
until it's your 12 year old son. I'm not saying he's a molester, and I'm a fan of his music, but he admitted to sharing his bed with children, not wise, and unfortunately, he forced people to care about it. - bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Most of the responsbility for kids staying the night over with celebrities is on the parents. Too bad most of the parents out there are not qualified of being good parents, instead they're completely qualified of being asshats.
- xtoph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's more that most of us made your joke a decade ago.
- SIRBERUS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Innocent of charges, guilty of stupidity.
His people warned him and pleaded with him, and even begged him to stop destroying his career. - theundone, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13Talent or no talent, he still creeps me out.
- dcmjzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5michael jackson's face thru the ages: http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/Jackson.html
just tell me that is not weird... - seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But without mj, and then jt, we would not have Dick in a Box. And a world without Dick in a Box, is a world I would sooner kill myself.
- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I consider Thriller to be the greatest pop album of all time. "Billy Jean" remains one of my favorite songs. Even as a 41 year old male, who's no longer into pop music, I can still listen to that album any time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Educate yourself, please. The father's part is true, also the skin disease, but the rest is *****.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5MJ and Prince, two of the greatest artists of all time.
- there, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7MJ is s genius..
Putting aside the unproven molester allegations, I sometimes wonder what people consider weird about him (mostly his appearance) is actually just another facet of that genius... but the majority are too stupid to realize it. Instead they use it as a opportunity to take shots at him for everything under the sun (similar to schoolyard bullies).
He's obviously very concerned with his appearance but this really isn't unusual. What's unusual is how far he went with it and what a piss poor job the surgeons did. Michael doesn't hate "being black" as some suggest though (far from because without the cultural influence I doubt he would have reached the heights he did). It was simply a matter of him trying to conform to the vision fashion magazines around the world tell us is beauty today (because YOU buy them people).
Sure.... images of beauty do change over decades/centuries but at the moment it's no mystery being wafer thin, pale skinned, a small nose, a strong chin, etc... are all "in". Even successful black and oriental models tend to fit this mold. How is this any different than what MJ seemed to be aiming for?
Unfortunately for Michael though....
cosmetic plastic surgery wasn't as socially acceptable nor as technically sophisticated when he started his "transformation". I would argue his "weirdness" isn't exactly the fault of MJ though. If he made a mistake it was in being overly trusting that the butchers that performed his surgeries would be of the same caliber of his music. While accidents do occasionally happen, this clearly isn't the work of particularly competent or ethical cosmetic surgeons. (Who would never perform a surgery where they thought it would result in facial disfigurement)
To all the people that have ridiculed him for his appearance over the years.....
It's seems quite possible (based on current trends over the last few decades) that one day the rest of us will in fact be viewed as "weird" for having the audacity to pass moral judgments on him. Elvis originally used to be ridiculed by the "righteous" also if I recall.
To me MJ just seems like someone who was actually way way ahead of his time. The guy has always tried his best to make the world more beautiful and it's pretty damn hard to fault him for that. - lindmar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Oprah is a fat slob
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15Oprah is Satan.
- comedianX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6How is it childish to say he made himself white? It is based on easily observable empirical evidence. Every modification he has made is to make himself more Caucasian. He made his nose smaller and thinner, he made his lips thinner, he straightened his hair all to make himself more Caucasian. And if he DOES have vitiligo it is the the most even and complete vitiligo in medical history.
- caboosemoose, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Ummm, the reason why people think he made himself white is because he clearly has had a plastic surgeon hack the crap out of his face on several occasions.
Maybe he does suffer from vitiligo, but given his track record in terms of making his facial features less african and more caucasian, I think it's completely reasonable to suggest that it's possible that the main reason why he bleached his skin was to appear white. - jkostantos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4imagine Einstein was a child molester and there was conclusive proof.. do his additions of science all of a sudden loose merit? Would you not print his theories in a book or ask him what he's working on?
stigmas exist because people are scared and have no confidence in their ability to control their environment
he's creepy but anyone who can't respect him is short sighted - Shenaniganz08, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5yeah if you think thats beatboxing done right please don't look up Rahzel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrTktKT6ySo - z3r0c0O1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The freakiest thing is the movement's of Oprah, what the hell is she doing?
- comedianX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Okay, I'll admit you're correct about the skin condition -- I had never seen those images of his skin before -- sorry. However, it doesn't change the fact that he straightened his hair, changed his nose, lips and chin all to be more Caucasian. Not to mention the fact that he wears makeup to make his skin more evenly WHITE, not black. He could have just as easily done the opposite. So I would say there is still "empirical evidence."
- bdurkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2She looks like my Grandmother trying to have an ounce of rhythm and just suckin to the point of embarassment. I had no idea Oprah moves like a 70 year old white woman.
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@caboosemoose: Somehow, I don't think his former nose would have suited him much with his lighter complexion. I don't blame him. Perhaps he went too far, but to think he "made himself white" seems childishly idiotic to me.
- comedianX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3White people use tanning cream and other artificial ways to darken their skin so don't assume this a ludicrous concept that Michael Jackson could never consider if he wanted to.
Also you seem to believe that Black people in United States have never tried to achieve a "white look" due to self loathing. I don't know if you're from the US or know the history of racial discrimination in this country, but black people have at times straightened their hair and resorted to skin bleaching as an answer to the self loathing that is brought on by racial discrimination. Now, taken individually Michael Jackson's skin condition and the multiple surgeries don't mean much -- taken individually. However, they are not isolated, and we know that he has abuse in his past so I believe that it means more than just someone, "having some work done." - jimmiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How about less child rape.
- mntalkase, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Prince still won, though.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have an old VHS recording of that special someplace. If I ever found it I would put it up on YouTube if it isn't all up already.
As far as being a fan of MJ I mostly just like the 1980's stuff (Basically Thriller and Bad) but I have a bunch of vintage Jackson 5 and early solo albums. - kidcodea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2tx serge
- Stiverton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nice choice of adjectives.
- brianrlawson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is awesome. I remember watching this on TV during Oprah's special. I was like 12 or something. I was way big in to MJ when I was a kid...I had a glove and everything. Way back in the Beat It and Thriller days, he was the coolest. I remember watching this beatbox and my jaw dropping to the floor. Thanks for sharing!
- chopcow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Magazines have constantly portrayed white people as being the norm for beautiful. It's sad, but true. As a result, you will see many black women on talk shows talking about how they grew up feeling depressed and wanting to be white...only later to realize the ridiculousness of the standards that the media puts forth and changing their attitude toward what is beautiful.
Because of this, it doesn't suprise me in the least bit that someone like Michael Jackson would try to look as white as possible. It may be idiotic and ridiculous to do it, but that doesn't mean that someone wouldn't try to do it if they had the financial means to do so.
This is what Vitiligo looks like:
http://www.almanhastanesi.com.tr/makale/makaleler/images/vitiligo.jpg
...and it doesn't cause one's nose to become smaller or lips to become thinner. - daffnee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am a black female and I straighten my hair. Does that mean I want to be white? Umm, no. Going by that logic, that must mean when white people go tanning or get collagen injections in their lips they're trying to be black??
- pollyannaj, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1t would be so great if we could get this guy on america's got talent. maybe they'll be on there. it's starting up again on june 27 (NEXT TUES!!!) and i'm so excited. i don't know why i'm so hooked on this kind of thing. BUT I AM.
