- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0will this work for places like CNN?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All i get is a video of spears.
- onelinestudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im sure it is only a matter of time before this happens.. http://digg.com/technology/Yahoo_sends_Spanish_software_blog_cease-and-desist
- lonegeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0G-RaZoR ... Where did you get that python script for xbmc from??
- isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a buddy of mine explained the video resolutions:
320x240 is the number of pixels on a television screen, which is probably the resolution they're getting the videos at.The difference between the 700 and 300k streams is the amount of video data per frame, ie, the level of detail and movement of artifacts in fast sequences, like the different filesizes you could get for different levels of jpeg compression. The 700k stream will produce a larger output file and look better when viewed full screen. It's not massively different but that's only because Yahoo's 300k streams have excellent compression. I don't know if they've updated their entire catalogue to have 700k streams, some of the older videos may only go up to 128 or 300. When Yahoo updates a video file it gets a new (incremented) videoID (not including the 9xxxxx videos) so you can tell which are the old ones. - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not to be rude, unfortunate, but what you said about video compression is all common knowledge to people on a technology news site. No need to explained what you learned. Just be glad you know it :)
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let's try BT.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have SBC DSL and I get 700k very easy (obviously), however I do have a modded xbox running Launch.com (special python script) and it plays any video in 700k full screen, it looks MTV quality, and it has nothing to do with me having Yahoo DSL, as it doesn't even ask for my login info...
- Cam_86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I cant get it to work... How does the video ID look? Is this it?
"ar-259327-videos--Oasis"(from Oasis-lyla video)
When i put that into URL converter page, i get the URL to a WMP video of a static image of Brittany spears.
Here:

Can someone tell me what i am doing wrong? thanks. - zone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks really good, but audio at 64kbps? i dunno, it sounds terrible.
- hass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The quality isn't that great, but it tells you how to save video streams which I didn't know how to do before. It's kind of complicated with VLC. Flashget makes it very easy. Dugg
- ReturnZer0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The best way to get correct numbers is to search for the video. The links in the search results have the correct ID.
- Cam_86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah... Thanks Jargon. Got it working now.
- MadRat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i only could get the correct numbers from Yahoo's Top 100 videos list
i successfully downloaded "Wake Me Up When September Ends" it came out to be 320x240 627kbps(video) 698kpps(audio) and a total of 35.7MB - cracell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ya...the quality is a bit better at 700k but res is still 320x240
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know how i could get the script from his site so i could host it on my own incase it gets taken down.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good trick but doesn't work...

http://3couleurs.blogspot.com - quailtamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey guys, please stop posting information about technology that a few people might already know, I mean it's REALLY FRUSTRATING having to skip over a few lines of text. No, but seriously, Snyder is a moron.
- Jules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mac users, try out ASFRecorderX, I have been using this for a long long time recording launch.com streams, and it works easily! Just paste in the mms and it downloads it.
- turbo2ltr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"320x240 is the number of pixels on a television screen,"
Ehh, maybe when it was first invented. Standard televisions have 525 lines of resolution (at least in the US, PAL is different) - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0p.s. this video quality sucks for 700Kbps!
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Erm, wouldn't it be easier/more practical to download the videos from P2P?
Still interesting though
- Ben - tdkyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I get at least MPEG2 quality music video at this privatish hub I goto. I even have vob or even HD quality music videos!
Well, I guess this might be useful for 56kers who can't watch these streams, guess downloading is the way to go! - Stimpy-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works great!
- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"

Its interlaced, so you're only getting half of that with each update of the screen. - Nullifidian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This really shows the power of VLC too.
Nice! - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For people that are having problems, you are not to copy any paste the entire contents of the form after you put in the the video ID. There are two links in the form given after you click "Grunt Big for Daddy". There is an html and a mms address. It's been working for me by copying and pasting everything from mms:// and on. What you are pasting in VLC (or flashget, but i didn't try it in that) should look something like this...
mms://wmcontent99.bcst.yahoo.com/b02r01/010/__S__/LAUvpwm9/9/17235939.wmv?StreamID=17235939&pl_auth=a53ad7c5aa28095dc7b9668cf64b5497&ht=3630&xdata=xAEf7EbTAGTO.XCMSyjOng-32996948-1315898745&b=a4na1i51f2a7a&s=396500551&ru=UNKNOWN - triont, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if using windows media player right click and change the size to 200% the quality still looks good.........i think the server for converting the number to a link is down though
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too ***** complicated for someone like me who never like music videos to begin with.
- smspence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree; Snyder is an idiot.
- mattway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this works really well. but is the audio always at 64k on launch?
- lllslinklll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone know the source code for this so we can post it on our own personal servers so we won't have to worry about yahoo taking it down?
- erissiva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Already down...
Oh, the mms:// script, not the blog. - isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To Snyder, you'd be surprised at the number of people who do not understand what the word compression even means. I understand that most of the digg members here have a great understandign of technology in general... unfortunately there are four times as many people who don't. Just because digg is a tech news site does not imply that all the readers fully understand what they're reading.
- pmr12002, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Back to Getting The 300k streams the old fashioned way
- lbermude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ups sorry... wrong digg...
- lbermude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0The cloud is due to water condensing in the Prandtl-Glauert singularity and it does not coincide with the shock wake. If you want to instruct yourself check: http://www.galleryoffluidmechanics.com/conden/pg_sing.htm
If you are still interested, take a compressible flow class (lots of thermodynamics and fluid flow)
