- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+72Gotta respect anyone that can drum live under those lights in a full Chewbacca costume!
- systmltdn, on 10/12/2007, -52/+8that's so true, this is kinda cool, although I don't favor the music, he should have done this when star wars first came out, for this song has a 70's like sound.
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25definatly wierd seeing such an amazing voice combined with star wars costumes lol..
Is it just me or does every song He sings sound better live? god i hope the over studio'd crapola is coming to an end.. - mikesty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12He is one of the few singers that sounds better live. He was okay in "Groundhog Day" with MayDay, but he is way better here.
He reminds me of another large black singer whose name is on the tip of my tounge yet I can't remember. It'll probably click 5 seconds after the edit option dissapears, or someone will see it and reply immediately and I will be buried for looking like a dick. - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Jimi Hendrix!
He's always the answer. - pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6If you think this is wierd, they played Coachella in costumes from Wizard of Oz.
- arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"god i hope the over studio'd crapola is coming to an end.."
Here here.
By coincident I read an interview with these guys earlier today. Apparently most of the vocals on the album are the first take. Guy can sing. - Unicron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19When will people learn it's HEAR HEAR. As in "Hear this!"
Sorry for the caps, but it's just so obvious if you spend the tiniest amount of thought on it. Move along now. - PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Look closer - Chewie's not _actually_ drumming.
But hey Boba Fett's not actually playing the keyboard either ... - teamchristian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19As a drummer, I can tell you that although it looks like Chewy isn't drumming, he actually is. Its just a unique playing style.
- sfslim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That was Chris Vrenna inside the Chewbacca suit, supposedly.
- chewbaka, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2What the !?
This "chewbacca" character stole my name. - theanticrust, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"He reminds me of another large black singer whose name is on the tip of my tounge yet I can't remember."
His voice reminds me of Nina Simone. - daeken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4re: pjack91.
Wow, someone else on digg at coachella. That's sort of odd. I actually went solely for Tool, but damn Gnarls Barkley put on an _awesome_ show. Plus it was nice to chill out in there compared to being out in the blistering hot sun lol.
Definitely going back to coachella next year ;) - tmarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4and since no one has said it yet for anyone wondering his name is not jimi or nina, its cee-lo
- bobalien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0i doubt he was actually playing
- speezer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It was just like the Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978.
- brainster31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7except that it didn't suck
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2Ha great. The guy at the start looks quite a bit like Zlad!
- LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22That's one of Ali G's characters. Borat i think.
- anymir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yeah, it's Borat. Ali G is also a character.
- esoteric0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9there's a borat movie coming out. i saw a trailer before 'the omen' last week. i guess they're trying to tie in.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, and Isla Fisher who won for breakout performance for Wedding Crashers is Ali G's real-life wife. That's also Ali G mashed-up with Obiwan Kenobi in my avatar, in case people were wondering WTF that's all about. And now they're still probably wondering WTF that's all about.
The Gnarls Barkley thing was a bit gimmicky I thought. But I guess it was in tribute to Star Wars finally coming to an end after ~30 years. Darth Vader got the best villian award too. But why wasn't Palpatine nominated? - bobalien, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1borat has stated many, many times he has no affiliation with the television performer Sascha Baron Cohen (aka Ali G)
- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sacha Baron Cohen plays three personas: Ali G the MC and gangster wannabe from Staines, Borat the Kazakhstani reporter and Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion reporter.
Also at the awards was Isla Fischer, Sacha Baron Cohen's fiancee. You know that hot redhead from Wedding Crashers.
- modcase, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Very hard to make out but here are the lyrics to Gnarls Barkley Crazy:
http://lyricsfly.com/search/view.php?b7ebe763bc&view=313879- soll, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Those lyrics are actually wrong in a few places. Should be a better link somewhere.
- Yeabudy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12CeeLo Green has a great voice. The studio St. Elsewhere tracks are great but to hear how well he sings live is astounding.
Aside from the sheer entertaining aspects, I don't quite know the reasoning behing the Star Wars theme. Perhaps it was a personal favorite interest of CeeLo or Dangermouse...- magiccarpet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11They perform in a different set of costumes every night.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1Is that the guy who sounds like he was castrated?
- fishmasta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4No, Antony from Antony & the Johnsons sounds like he was castrated.
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1No, Antony from Antony & The Johnsons sounds like he's *being* castrated...
- phidong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Check out their myspace (I know, I know) http://www.myspace.com/gnarlsbarkley
They perform in different movie costumes, their myspace shows some pictures of them in different movie themed costumes. I'll link them in case you're not emo enough to have a myspace :P

:) - MrWizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They were on Conan in bathtowels and robes too. Awesome stuff. There was a rubber duckie on the keyboard. Word to that.
- happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They have been dressing up a lot actually, they have already done Napoleon Dynamite, Wayne's World, the Big Lebowski,Cheech and Chong, Nightmare on Elm St., Jason, and A Clockwork Orange if not during a live performance then at least on promotional material.
- tmarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wonder what they'll be wearing when i see them at ACL festival (austin city limits)
- Deza604, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Wow, that made my day! Great performance!
- Disease, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Props to them for being able to perform in Star Wars costumes.
- mrhahn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Although it doesn't look as cool, I think I prefer the way their TOTP performance sounds -- http://snipurl.com/pjdk
- humbledstrength, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Is that boba or jango on the keyboards?
I always put money on the fett-man.- jwigum, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Jango, he's got a blue helmet and a set of silver blasters.
Boba has a darker costume, and a single weapon.
- jwigum, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Jango, he's got a blue helmet and a set of silver blasters.
- GrendelT, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Oh yeah, I saw this while flipping through channels. I saw a Vader mask, and a hand removing it... *STOP* WTF is this?
Then Gnarles Barkley's ugly mug pops out - that's not Anakin! ...but it's a cool song. - imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5that little keyboard part makes the song
- falcon707, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2That was disturbing.
- coolspray, on 10/12/2007, -18/+5For anyone interested in the songs on his album, someone posted them here: http://205.234.163.190/mp3/Gnarls_Barkley/
A simple find using the Google for MP3 method.- anymir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Gnarls Barkley is not one person, it's Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo.
- JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11*Their* album... Plus, if you like the tracks why link to a CD rip? How about giving the artist some money?
- jron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11umm... how about if you really liked the artist, send them 5 bucks instead of giving them the 10 cents they make on a record sale.
- shelby1076, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4What a dumb ass!
Go to the mp3 level & that's enough to the MPAA frothing at the mouth for awhile.
But hey this is only the largest tech/social site of its type. I'm sure that no one from the **AA come here. - JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4"umm... how about if you really liked the artist, send them 5 bucks instead of giving them the 10 cents they make on a record sale."
Yeah im sure loads of people have actually done that!
I doubt you could even find correct contact info in order to send them money. - aembleton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere album I bought recently without downloading first because I was able to listen to four of the tracks on their myspace page ( http://myspace.com/gnarlsbarkley ). After hearing Smiley Faces I had to buy the album, but I suggest you do buy it if you like it.
Those diggers who are UK based, the cheapest place I found to get it from was 4cheapcds, for £6.99 including delivery, which I think is a resonable price for an album ( http://www.4cheapcds.com/Product/ProductInfo.aspx?id=219564 ).
- Boodie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That was awesome!!
- drummer1189, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Chewbacca playing drums is the tops
- livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11heh isnt that funny.. takes a rapper and a rap DJ to produce one of the best pop songs in a long time.. excellent video.. they did a gr8 job with this..
props! - Hellomoto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3borat is the real bad a in this vid
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"There is one singer called Shakira… sorry I laugh because in Kazakhstan this word means vagina. For example, ‘Can I touch your shakira?’ or ‘I have seen your wife’s shakira, it hangs like the mouth of a tired dog." - Borat.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3The should enjoy the ride, Gnarls Barkley are one of those bands that in a couple of years we'll see in the MTV Awards archives (the ones they show aplenty in the weeks before the new editions) and say "Ganarls what?"
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Nah............I think Dangermouse is one of the best things to happen to music in a long time
- bozboyku1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1it must of been hard to play drums and guitar in those costumes...
- addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7IMHO, anything with dangermouse is a pretty safe bet of something pretty sweet, dangerdoom was like a dream of mine, two of my favs collaborating and based on some of my most favorite characters ever. I like Gnarls Barkley too, but some of the deeper tracks on the album aren't as good, but i really really like the first track... not sure of the name at the moment though
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Go Go Gadget Gospel. :)
Gnarls Barkley is a great project. I love all of Danger Mouse's unique geek style. :D
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Go Go Gadget Gospel. :)
- remocwen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The stormtrooper guitarist's tapping foot at the beginning cracks me up for some reason.
I saw these guys play live on Conan O'Brien's show awhile back and they were all dressed up in bathrobes with rubber duckies & shower caps. Pretty funny stuff. - Vision77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Cee Lo and Danger Mouse have separately been making music which pushes the boundaries for years. Especially Danger Mouse. That Grey album was hot. Oh for you lames who don't know about the Grey Album its Jay-Z's Black album and The Beatles White albums. http://isohunt.com/dl.php?id=7938609 There ya go bitches.
- AceSuperfly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9coolest star wars painting ever - http://www.blueharvest.net/images/pr/poster.jpg

ahemmm aheemm
CRRRRAAAAAYYYYZEEEEYYYYYY... CRRRAAZZZZEEYYYYYYYY - theLEGENDisBACK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4( in the uncanny Borat voice) YES this is good.
- zanthrax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's Jango Fett, Boba Fett (Jango's son) has a costume with green accents.
- ffttoteof, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0That's _almost_ as cool as No Kill I. http://www.nokilli.com/
- rwood757, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i saw this when it was on I LOVE gnarls barkley
- shinyplasticbag, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1Oh my god, this is just the worst song in the world. Why do people liek this? How many times can someone say "does that make me crazy" in a single song? ARG.
- crazyc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+63 times?
http://www.elyrics.net/read/g/gnarls-barkley-lyrics/crazy-lyrics.html - Chufucious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's called a "chorus" you dense hippy
- pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Jeez MTV actually hit it right with Gnarls Barkley, and then Wolfmother for the aftershow. Give credit where credit is due. They're stepping away from Pop and going with music that sounds great live.
- happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Worst song in the world, that's a bid harsh.
I mean its at least better then anything from flock of seagulls
- crazyc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+63 times?
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Have I died? A good band on MTV, a good song on MTV!
Still ain't gonna watch MTV though, I'm not a 13 year old female. - digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -19/+2good?? this is far from good this is garbage, maybe i should start a band and dress up like star wars, then i will be cool to. You eat what MTV FEEDS YOU, they feed you emo, you eat it. They make things popular, not because they are actually popular, but, because mtv made it appear to be popular.
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm sorry but that man can sing, and that's a good pop song. I don't eat a damn thing MTV feeds me, cause I don't even watch MTV. In fact, I discovered Gnarls Barkley because I just heard the name and went, I got to here this. And I heard it, and I liked a lot of the stuff on it.
That song, that band is ten times better than 99 percent of the hip hop, emo garbage on the air. - SimpleC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wouldn't necessarily say that this is garbage, its actually pretty good and being recognized just recently. I'm a pretty big fan of Danger Doom ever since the Grey Album and watched them first perform at the Coachella (which is a great place to listen to good music) and I would say that Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo have a pretty big indie following in the hip hop scene.
If you didn't know Danger Mouse produced the Danger Doom album with MF Doom and the Gorillaz Demon Dayz with Damon Albarn (from the Blur). - Respiration, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with SimpleC with how they have a big indie following in the hip hop scene. That is why I find it surprising that they are even getting airtime from MTV because they are "that" good. I wish some other great underground artists could get as much publicity as Gnarls Barkley is getting because there is so much garbage on MTV and the radio that it makes me sick. But just because they are on MTV doesn't make them trash, I can assure that they are anything but garbage...
- Hatefull, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2you really are a horses ass. did you copy and paste that anti-MTV ***** from some other rebel, or did you come up with that all on your own? what the ***** does emo music have anything to do with Gnarls Barkley? BTW, this isn't usually my "type" of music either, but damn if it don't sound good.
- TidePoolFunk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Dude, you're an idiot..get the facts, just like we're all saying here they have a huge underground hip-hop following consisting of fans of MF DOOM, Dangermouse, Cee-Lo, Adult Swim, Jay-Z, Apple, Gorilla...etc.
- Justinpirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I didn't even know MTV had anything to do with this guy, but that song is awesome! I have had it stuck in my head for days.
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I wish Johnny Rotten from the sex pistols would come out and bash mtv like he used to, that was the only time i used to love watching it, haha
- AndFrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You do realize that John Lydon had two very different personas, right? There's the sex pistols' "Jonny Rotten" and also Public Image Limited's John Lydon, who made new wave music and plenty of music videos.
- Hatefull, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2for those of you interested, Nelly Furtado did a live cover of this song for the bbc I believe:
http://snipurl.com/rn4o- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1god that sucks! she sounds SOooooOOO much better with her own material.
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cool performance!
I dunno... something about seeing Darth Vader with the voice of anyone besides James Earl Jones is a bit odd to me. - McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2:-)
- Respiration, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I love Gnarls Barkley. Heck, the only reason I watched the MTV Movie Awards was because they were performing. And 2 days ago my friend was teaching me how to uprock with this song.
I guess it is not for everyone, and it is kind of an acquired taste. I also love DangerMouse's collabo with MF Doom (aka DangerDoom) and they had a video on adult swim a while back. - TidePoolFunk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Call them whatever you will.
You people didn't know that Gnarls Barkley is DangerMouse and Cee-Lo, of the DangerDoom album fame.
Next time you guys talk *****, get some background. - swordphish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How refreshing. Just when I thought hip-hop was reaching an all time low - leave it to Danger Mouse to raise the bar. All I gotta say is, if you can't appreciate this music, then you need to go deaf - you don't deserve to hear this.
- unfeomateo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I was in the 10th row when he performed at the MTV movie awards. Was a great performance.
- Kspdigger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is seriously cool.
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He rocks... And it takes us 2 months after beeing #1 in the UK for american to catch on... Tho, I found it a month ago through iTunes.
- armo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was wondering the reason for the sudden interest in them, america's just caught on eh. Lex records is a superb label got some really good stuff off them. New dm & jemini album out in october woot woot
- BillyK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude, I'm not trying to pull an "I'm more hip than you" thing, but this track was leaked last FALL.
- Faken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha that's kick ass!
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i have always heard about that band and that was the first time i heard them play, i like that its really unique music. and the customes... that was great.
- CultureBully, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've got the mp3 of the performance over here if anyone's interested -
http://culturebully.blogspot.com/2006/06/gnarls-barkley-crazy-live-at-2006-mtv.html - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's what I keep wondering every time I see them in costumes: Is this all Danger Mouse's idea, and CeeLo just goes along with it? Cause Danger Mouse seems the more eccentric, artsy, crazy one, and CeeLo is a little more traditional R&B. I have a hard time imagining this kind of stuff being CeeLo's idea.
Either way, I love it.- jccalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, Cee-lo often wears calftans, so he does have a flair for flamboyant clothes.
- xil3nt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4GNARLS BARKLEY OWNS!
- MilitantQueer, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Digg has gone to *****...
These type of topics are the reason why. - mruocky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** LOVE GNARLS BARKLEY!!!!
LISTEN TO THEM! ST. ELSEWHERE ROCKS. - mismith356, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1too friggin cool...he demonstrates crazy...awesome song and a star a with a sense of hum our...not attitude, pretty amazing.
- GeneHACKman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1He's singing live over a recorded track. They're just pretending to play. All the performers that night did the same thing. That's MTV for ya.
- bobalien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Defintely a recorded track - Danger Mouse's keys were live, but they were turned very low... CeeLo's vocals were impressive tho... on the flipside I think AFI's singer was completely lip synching - why do they all look like Zelda?
