- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+72Gotta respect anyone that can drum live under those lights in a full Chewbacca costume!
- anymir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Gnarls Barkley is not one person, it's Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo.
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25definatly wierd seeing such an amazing voice combined with star wars costumes lol..
Is it just me or does every song He sings sound better live? god i hope the over studio'd crapola is coming to an end.. - LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22That's one of Ali G's characters. Borat i think.
- teamchristian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19As a drummer, I can tell you that although it looks like Chewy isn't drumming, he actually is. Its just a unique playing style.
- speezer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It was just like the Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978.
- Unicron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19When will people learn it's HEAR HEAR. As in "Hear this!"
Sorry for the caps, but it's just so obvious if you spend the tiniest amount of thought on it. Move along now. - anymir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yeah, it's Borat. Ali G is also a character.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Nah............I think Dangermouse is one of the best things to happen to music in a long time
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Have I died? A good band on MTV, a good song on MTV!
Still ain't gonna watch MTV though, I'm not a 13 year old female. - phidong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Check out their myspace (I know, I know) http://www.myspace.com/gnarlsbarkley
They perform in different movie costumes, their myspace shows some pictures of them in different movie themed costumes. I'll link them in case you're not emo enough to have a myspace :P

:) - livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11heh isnt that funny.. takes a rapper and a rap DJ to produce one of the best pop songs in a long time.. excellent video.. they did a gr8 job with this..
props! - Yeabudy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12CeeLo Green has a great voice. The studio St. Elsewhere tracks are great but to hear how well he sings live is astounding.
Aside from the sheer entertaining aspects, I don't quite know the reasoning behing the Star Wars theme. Perhaps it was a personal favorite interest of CeeLo or Dangermouse... - magiccarpet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11They perform in a different set of costumes every night.
- JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11*Their* album... Plus, if you like the tracks why link to a CD rip? How about giving the artist some money?
- AceSuperfly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9coolest star wars painting ever - http://www.blueharvest.net/images/pr/poster.jpg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12He is one of the few singers that sounds better live. He was okay in "Groundhog Day" with MayDay, but he is way better here.
He reminds me of another large black singer whose name is on the tip of my tounge yet I can't remember. It'll probably click 5 seconds after the edit option dissapears, or someone will see it and reply immediately and I will be buried for looking like a dick. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"There is one singer called Shakira… sorry I laugh because in Kazakhstan this word means vagina. For example, ‘Can I touch your shakira?’ or ‘I have seen your wife’s shakira, it hangs like the mouth of a tired dog." - Borat.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Go Go Gadget Gospel. :)
Gnarls Barkley is a great project. I love all of Danger Mouse's unique geek style. :D - aembleton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere album I bought recently without downloading first because I was able to listen to four of the tracks on their myspace page ( http://myspace.com/gnarlsbarkley ). After hearing Smiley Faces I had to buy the album, but I suggest you do buy it if you like it.
Those diggers who are UK based, the cheapest place I found to get it from was 4cheapcds, for £6.99 including delivery, which I think is a resonable price for an album ( http://www.4cheapcds.com/Product/ProductInfo.aspx?id=219564 ). - tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm sorry but that man can sing, and that's a good pop song. I don't eat a damn thing MTV feeds me, cause I don't even watch MTV. In fact, I discovered Gnarls Barkley because I just heard the name and went, I got to here this. And I heard it, and I liked a lot of the stuff on it.
That song, that band is ten times better than 99 percent of the hip hop, emo garbage on the air. - pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Jeez MTV actually hit it right with Gnarls Barkley, and then Wolfmother for the aftershow. Give credit where credit is due. They're stepping away from Pop and going with music that sounds great live.
- mrhahn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Although it doesn't look as cool, I think I prefer the way their TOTP performance sounds -- http://snipurl.com/pjdk
- esoteric0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9there's a borat movie coming out. i saw a trailer before 'the omen' last week. i guess they're trying to tie in.
- arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"god i hope the over studio'd crapola is coming to an end.."
Here here.
By coincident I read an interview with these guys earlier today. Apparently most of the vocals on the album are the first take. Guy can sing. - addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7IMHO, anything with dangermouse is a pretty safe bet of something pretty sweet, dangerdoom was like a dream of mine, two of my favs collaborating and based on some of my most favorite characters ever. I like Gnarls Barkley too, but some of the deeper tracks on the album aren't as good, but i really really like the first track... not sure of the name at the moment though
- remocwen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The stormtrooper guitarist's tapping foot at the beginning cracks me up for some reason.
I saw these guys play live on Conan O'Brien's show awhile back and they were all dressed up in bathrobes with rubber duckies & shower caps. Pretty funny stuff. - brainster31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7except that it didn't suck
- Chufucious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's called a "chorus" you dense hippy
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I wish Johnny Rotten from the sex pistols would come out and bash mtv like he used to, that was the only time i used to love watching it, haha
- jron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11umm... how about if you really liked the artist, send them 5 bucks instead of giving them the 10 cents they make on a record sale.
- sfslim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That was Chris Vrenna inside the Chewbacca suit, supposedly.
- crazyc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+63 times?
http://www.elyrics.net/read/g/gnarls-barkley-lyrics/crazy-lyrics.html - Vision77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Cee Lo and Danger Mouse have separately been making music which pushes the boundaries for years. Especially Danger Mouse. That Grey album was hot. Oh for you lames who don't know about the Grey Album its Jay-Z's Black album and The Beatles White albums. http://isohunt.com/dl.php?id=7938609 There ya go bitches.
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cool performance!
I dunno... something about seeing Darth Vader with the voice of anyone besides James Earl Jones is a bit odd to me. - theLEGENDisBACK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4( in the uncanny Borat voice) YES this is good.
- xil3nt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4GNARLS BARKLEY OWNS!
- drummer1189, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Chewbacca playing drums is the tops
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4and since no one has said it yet for anyone wondering his name is not jimi or nina, its cee-lo
- daeken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4re: pjack91.
Wow, someone else on digg at coachella. That's sort of odd. I actually went solely for Tool, but damn Gnarls Barkley put on an _awesome_ show. Plus it was nice to chill out in there compared to being out in the blistering hot sun lol.
Definitely going back to coachella next year ;) - happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They have been dressing up a lot actually, they have already done Napoleon Dynamite, Wayne's World, the Big Lebowski,Cheech and Chong, Nightmare on Elm St., Jason, and A Clockwork Orange if not during a live performance then at least on promotional material.
- GrendelT, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Oh yeah, I saw this while flipping through channels. I saw a Vader mask, and a hand removing it... *STOP* WTF is this?
Then Gnarles Barkley's ugly mug pops out - that's not Anakin! ...but it's a cool song. - Respiration, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with SimpleC with how they have a big indie following in the hip hop scene. That is why I find it surprising that they are even getting airtime from MTV because they are "that" good. I wish some other great underground artists could get as much publicity as Gnarls Barkley is getting because there is so much garbage on MTV and the radio that it makes me sick. But just because they are on MTV doesn't make them trash, I can assure that they are anything but garbage...
- pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6If you think this is wierd, they played Coachella in costumes from Wizard of Oz.
- MrWizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They were on Conan in bathtowels and robes too. Awesome stuff. There was a rubber duckie on the keyboard. Word to that.
- ZedX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2These folks have like zero stage presence (they're all just kind of standing there), but the Star Wars stuff is awesome, and the man can SING! Gotta love that voice.
- AndFrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You do realize that John Lydon had two very different personas, right? There's the sex pistols' "Jonny Rotten" and also Public Image Limited's John Lydon, who made new wave music and plenty of music videos.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i have always heard about that band and that was the first time i heard them play, i like that its really unique music. and the customes... that was great.
- mruocky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** LOVE GNARLS BARKLEY!!!!
LISTEN TO THEM! ST. ELSEWHERE ROCKS. - SimpleC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wouldn't necessarily say that this is garbage, its actually pretty good and being recognized just recently. I'm a pretty big fan of Danger Doom ever since the Grey Album and watched them first perform at the Coachella (which is a great place to listen to good music) and I would say that Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo have a pretty big indie following in the hip hop scene.
If you didn't know Danger Mouse produced the Danger Doom album with MF Doom and the Gorillaz Demon Dayz with Damon Albarn (from the Blur). -
