- there4iam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41For some reason, I don't see that title going over well here in America.
- stuartcow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31No, he's a ROCK-ET-MAN... ROCKET MAN!! Burning up his fuse out there alone!
- AJRiddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Thats simply great.
- bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28What the ***** is Ozzie doing behind the oven guy?
- sambtravis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Unless it's a really racist show about mexicans working in a car shop or something. But I still doubt it would go over well.
- dizparks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I bet David Copperfield later made that piano disappear.
- Oxygen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13When you can shoot form the hip like that, you know you're good.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12They do this all the time on a TV show in Australia called spicks and specs, they had weird al on a couple of weeks ago singing songs to a thesaurus
- Blizzardman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Was that Ozzy Osbourne and his wife behind the guy who gave him the instructions?....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Didn't you see when they focused on Claudia Schiffer and David Copperfield? I don't know what this show is, but that entire audience is filled with celebrities.
- knaps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13If you think that Elton did a good job, check out some of Ben Folds' on-the-spot stuff. Every concert of his that I've been to has had at least one made-up song (He always calls whatever he makes "Rock this bitch"). Here's a couple I found on youtube:
Big Lonely Building in Pittsburgh: http://youtube.com/watch?v=TLQ523oRWQw (cut short, I was here!)
Eliot House Is not So bad / Really Sucks Part 1: http://youtube.com/watch?v=9J8rTXnd2dY Part 2: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qLEq5OkTvo4
Rock this bitch in Berlin: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RAwuTuasGyo (by far the funniest one, he makes a song based off of some unintelligible screaming from the crowd)
Rock this Bitch for Steve Irwin: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wVrGU4_X3dQ (entire orchestra at his command)
Rock this Bitch in London: http://youtube.com/watch?v=8tJwnhGsuB0
Rock this Bitch in Perth: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oSecr22waoE - Oxygen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Good eye, didn't notice that before. Looks like Sharon is there with him too. And what looks to be Charlie Murphy above them :P
- benzzene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That was Richard E. Grant who gave him the oven instructions. If you don't know who he is you should watch the movie Withnail and I. You won't regret it.
- jklyon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Man, I don't really care for Elton, but that is serious skill!
- Turbosc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm sure the subtitles will help...
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZygpikCQybU
- digghasnoethics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Its called "An Audience With ...." and there were a whole string of them on UK a number of years back. For some reason they seemed to do well in getting celebs (as well as zelebs) to turn up - some more known in the UK than internationally.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Audience_With
The questioneer is Richard E Grant (actor)
To his right is Amanda Donahoe (I think, actor)
Behind him are the Osbournes (music), Frankie Dettori (jockey) and Mel Smith (actor/producer)
Behind Mel Smith is Geri Halliwell (ex spice girl).
You can also spot Boris Becker, Claudia Schiffer, David Copperfield, Lilli Savage, Des Lineham, Clive Anderson, Chris Evans, Caprice....plus a number of other that I can't remember the names of. And that's just in this little clip.
As a format I'm surprised a US TV company didn't pick it up, its akin to the Friars Club Roasts, but lives or dies on the ability of the central individual to entertain for an hour. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I read an interview about him years ago that said if he doesn't write a song in 15 minutes, he throws it out.
The man's a machine. - SuperiorKarsch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Simply amazing!
"Sharon, is that Sir Elton Bloody John??" - MichaelLord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Brilliant!
- thiagoleon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There are many street singers in northern Brazil that are masters in this art: create and sing funny lyrics about any subject "on the fly", always rhyming and playing the guitar. Very cool!
- bystedt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's cool but not a new idea. The Cure already something similar back with the 1979 album 'Three Imaginary Boys' on the track "So What?". The majority of the lyrics are read off the back of a packet of sugar.
- Ultroniar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why does everyone always assume anything on the internet is fake? Its wearing thin now, just appreciate the humour in it, why try to ruin it?!
- clinko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why is Ozzy in the audience behind the guy with the oven instructions?
- VhaidraU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The pre-1980 Cure album back from when they were a 3-piece band. An album that many so-called Cure fans have no idea even exists. Good call bystedt!
- LeDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd be eternally grateful if someone could provide a link to the show in its entirety, should such a link exist.
I don't think it was staged; I just think he's a musical prodigy. Coming out with two hit records a year for ten years (1969-79) straight ain't no cake walk. - dritchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's from a show called "An Audience with Elton John" -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328860/ . You can pick it up from amazon.co.uk.
I remember watching this when it was on tv and thinking it was staged -- it seemed a little too pat and convenient. Given the tone of the other "An Audience with ... " shows I've seen (e.g. Edna Everage and Kylie Minogue) it wouldn't surprise me if it was all scripted. He's not known as actor or improv artist, is he? - wageslaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Richard E. Grant was in the film "Withnail and I"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094336/
If you havnt seen it, your not alive. A classic. - VhaidraU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah the kanji gave it away :-/
- chetchez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Way to STFM!
(Sing the ***** manual) - stupidverizon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For some reason it reminded me of the Beatles. No clue why.
Also did I see David Copperfield? - livejamie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that was incredible
- RAEP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lollin
- st3vo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Improv at its best.
- mathew_bug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Fockin' is!"
- DallasGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw this when it was recorded 10 years ago in the UK - the show was a really neat concept - before reality TV got WAY out of hand, ha ha.
- bob_the_alien, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now all I need is an mp3 of this, and a large subwoofer in the trunk of my car, and I'm ready to start cruising the strip on Saturday night.
- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what's the name of the show? I want to watch the whole thing.
- esperoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Love him. simply the greatest singer ever
- Ultroniar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He's known for improvising songs. It's said if he doesn't finish a song in 15 minutes, he gets rid of it. I think its entirely real, you can tell the man is just a musical genius.
- contributiondg, on 11/25/2008, -0/+0Download music MP3, buy mp3 music, legal MP3 downloads at http://westsounds.com/
- streakybacon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2holy ***** it is.
- Appox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think wayne on whose line is better :)
- mathew_bug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, you did. And Ozzy Osbourne, Claudia Schiffer, Boris Becker, Mel Smith, etc.
- soulsolution, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2How do know if this guy who gave out the instruction book was not "planted"? C'mon....when a little girl who cried when 'Sanjaya' sang (on American Idol) was apparently "planted", why cud this guy be not?
- jwvelez, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Homosexuals are talented.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I'm guessing it's some German show? Claudia Scheiffer and Boris Becker were in the crowd.
- ForebodenOdin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0-->1:35
"I will take the one on the left also..." - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I call staged.
