- juneof44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, this is great and all, but you either download it from their site (aka their bandwidth) or you P2P it. At least all of the Postal Service videos have been available through other legit services (their website / Democracy player channels).
That said, I'm gonna download everything just to seed it! And I'd digg you twice if I could. - northerncomfort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Captain Obvious strikes again! Shame he's a few years late to the party.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is pretty sweet to see someone talking about this. I personally download more indie stuff that I can't find, than any of the dross that passes for popular music these days.. I couldn't even tell you how long it's been since I downloaded a major label song or album via P2P sites, however I downloaded a bunch of killer ska music from a band noone has ever heard of (Jaya the Cat,) just last weekend!
- sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Even better for people who don't care if their music is stolen! :D
- rossbrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The problem I see with this is there's no way to track how many people actually acquire it. Not like it's absolutely necessary to know, but I'm sure it's useful to the artists themselves if not the label.
Or is there a way? - FGFox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For the same reason the internet, P2P, etc. have contributed. The more ways artists can get themselves out there, the better their chance of being heard. Whether it helps "the industry" is debatable (hurr) since the suits get less money but everyone gets to find out about music they'd otherwise not hear. Didn't I have this conversation seven years ago?
Also //// Captain Obvious for real. - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What bandwidth? They're only providing the .torrent file. The bandwidth being used is that of the people seeding (and downloading) it.
- soulpatch77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't actively share online, but this model is inevitable... er... if we can find a model. :|

- scifipirate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Saddle creek has had my favorite music for about 3 years or so, I would recomend that anybody check them out. (as long as your not lame)
- wbrinkman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Apart from the benefit of having less load on their servers, how exactly is this a good thing for the music industry.
I'd much rather see independent labels push their work (free or not free) on a similar platform such as iMS, beatport, etc. If I enjoy my freebie, at least I know now where to look for the rest of their material.
And sure, the rest of their material is sure to be downloaded with BT aswell, but that's not helping the industry much. - Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15 comments on a front page story?
