- AmmoBoxAmps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha ha... It's funny you should mention that... on one of our prototypes, we forgot to convert to the Metric System and ended up with an output power of .047 British Thermal Units per second... nobody knew if it would blow their speakers or not, but it still sounded pretty damn good. We also tried making guitar cables using English units, but nobody seemed to want the '1000 Barleycorn' model... go figure...
To hear how well it works (and it does work...) check out the Field Tests page on Ammo-Box-Amps.com
Cheers!

I am one of the lucky few that own one of these amps. i have been playing guitar for twenty five years, so i know what kinds of sounds i am looking for in an amp.
I love a warm yet fat tube sound. I like the old twin reverbs, black faces. but they are so old and worn out that they are not worth the money to buy and restore. plus they have always had a lot of noise with them. those of you who remember this fine amp will understand. you younger guys should take my word for it.
i have tried nearly every amp i could get my hands on for the last couple of years, tube and solid state. solid state has come a long way but you can always tell the difference.
They just don't have a "natural" tone to them. if this doesn't bother you, stick to solid state!
I got one of these ammo box amps several months ago. As a technician i am very familiar with quality ranges of components. Trust me, even on a high dollar mesa, there are average level components! you can argue with me forever on this, but i am sad to say its true.
The US military and the non military NASA agencies use the highest grade components available in the world. These components influence life and death results.
contrary to what the media says, they generally use, or try to use, or are inventing the best equipment they can.
OK enough hub bub. how does it sound?
It has the purest natural tone of any tube amp i have ever played, hands down.
THERE IS NO NOISE!!!!!
That in itself is beyond belief. mil-spec components coupled with top quality assembly and quality control = a unique amplification system.
I also have the unique opportunity to own their selection of mil-spec instrument and speaker cables! this is typically where noise first enters the picture.
complete silence. you old tube guys out there don't believe me but is true.
I play a lot of vintage guitars with low powered pickups, so i tend to use only one pedal with this rig. Its a "Marshall blues breaker II". this gives me full range of over-modulation/distortion and i can control at what level it is triggered.
I play into a 4x10 hartke bass cabinet w/ the aluminum cones, so that i can get that really deep fat ass tone.
the amp has two bias settings. the vintage i use for clean, its great for blues, rockabilly, you name it. when i want the distortion, i flip the switch to the modern bias.
this creates for my set up a nice adjustable threshold for when i want the distortion to begin. for example: i don't need a foot switch to switch between clean or distorted, because i can zero that in why my volume control on the guitar! No kidding.
This is a one of a kind amplifier system, the sound is so full (w/ the cabinet) that i no longer desire reverb. and that is a big step for me, as i always used more reverb than the king of reverb Les Paul! LOL
I don't work for this company, i don't get paid for this, I just want to get the true word out on their fine equipment. Christopher is a fine man and soldier and he is devoting his life to this enterprise. I know because I used to own a guitar store in Virginia, and believe me you do not make money for several years doing this kind of thing. I no longer own the store for this reason. although i got a lot of great guitars out of it.
These amps are hand made by the finest electronics people the US can train.
don't believe me? talk shop with a submarine sonar guy. you'll learn that you are a babe in the woods when it comes to amplification systems!
Sorry I got carried away there.
if you don't believe me, email me. i don't mind. just keep it friendly, i don't like hate email. :)
BTW Christopher plays each amp for quite awhile before it goes out the door. I know this first hand, because I had to wait for him!! LOL
These guys are cool to deal with. email them or call them. you'll see what i mean.
5 out of 5 stars!

get one before they get popular and everyone wants one. - AmmoBoxAmps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi, from Ammo Box Amps (I'm currently in Baghdad, believe it or not!!!)! We've posted some 'real pictures' for your viewing pleasure. check out the "Field Tests" page on Ammo-Box-Amps.com for some detailed pics as well as some .mp3 audio samples of what the amp sounds like in action!
Enjoy!

These amps are being used by some truly discerning artists who care about their tone. All Tube and analog construction. If you are in the New Haven area write Chris an e-mail and try one out. You will not be disappointed.
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Using NASA components eh?
Does it work? - sometemple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who knows. there aren't even any real pictures of it. just a request for a $500 deposit. sheesh.
