...ahem, ...
shut up. - lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16HALLELUJAH!
- grimreaperev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Who cares, the more movies Peter Jackson makes the more I go to the theaters!
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The best part of that was that every time something died, instead of dying, the screen turned into a kaleidoscope, spun for a moment, and then that thing just disappeared.
- Majician, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Huh, Lets do the math. 1 Regular Dvd, then there's going to be a Platinum Edition, oh, and the BOXED set with hobbit character. After all that their going to release a limited edition dvd with NEVER BEFORE SEEN footage and commentary a year later. 2 movies = 8 more dvd's....New Line must be all smiles! I still think Jackson didn't get the credit he deserved for the first three movies....wow! CAN'T WAIT! HURRY UP AND GET THEM DONE!
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The extended LoTR is still the only extended DVD release I've ever considered to be worth the money. For $30 there was 3-4 hours of movie with all new special effects and original music, 12+ hours of the best behind the scenes features ever and 4 commentary tracks. I'd buy both Hobbit extended versions too if Peter Jackson and WETA are working on it.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10In the middle of the Earth, in land of the Shire, lives a brave little hobbits whom we all admire! With his long wooden pipe fuzzy wooly toes, lives in a hobbits hole and everybody knows him! Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins! He's only Three feet tall! Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins! Bravest little Hobbit of them all!!!!!
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Article is really short:
October 25, 2006 - MGM and New Line Cinema are moving ever closer to making J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit a big-screen reality. And now it seems that the studios may be planning not one, but two films based on the 1937 fantasy novel.
MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands revealed the plans this past weekend during a trade show in Orlando, Florida, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The Hobbit follows Bilbo Baggins on an adventure with a band of dwarves and the wizard Gandalf as they attempt to reclaim the dwarves' stolen treasure and restore their kingdom
This is the second time in the past month that Sands has publicly commented on the project. A few weeks ago, he issued a statement in response to a fan petition urging MGM and New Line to pursue Lord of the Rings helmer Peter Jackson as the director of The Hobbit.
"Peter Jackson's phenomenal success with The Lord of the Rings trilogy makes him the first and most ideal choice for directing The Hobbit. MGM would be thrilled to collaborate with the Academy Award-winning director on this MGM New Line Cinema production," Sands said.

- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8So you've never watched Dances with Wolves or Last of the Mohicans or Gone with the Wind? Some of the greatest movies of all time are longer than 3 hours. If you can't stay awake that long, you're going to miss some cinema classics.
- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Majician
It's been years since the Lord of the Rings DVDs came out; I'm still waiting for the supposed "limited edition" you're referring to.
As SkeletaLlama says, the Extended Edition LotR DVDs are well worth the money. The Collector's Editions might not be, despite the miniature and ashtray and bookends. But the Extended Editions are definitely worth paying and there was never any indication that New Line or Wingnut released them just to gouge us. - HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7>Two words, Peter Jackson
Two words: Not Signed.
There's no story here, the studio wants Jackson like they've said before. - maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9and his name is GANDALF????
- bjammin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"The scouring of the shire"
I loved that bit too .. but can see why it was cut out of the movie ... it comes after the major climax and doesn't really suit the structure of a movie. - Tarmanydyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6NERD!
- CrazyForSW, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9THERE IS A GOD.
- b0b0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Two Hobbit films? What, The Hobbit and The Hobbit 2: Electric Boogaloo?
- ElegantFiend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think a movie from one of the Silmarillion plots would be more worthwhile, theres more stuf you can do with that one.
- LustHog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I loved that movie as a kid and it was great, especially the music.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I just wish that he put that extra bit in the Return of the King where the hobbits go back to Shire, and find that it's been corrupted and such, and then they fight to take it back. That was my favorite part. I was so disappointed when it was left out of the movie.
Hmm, this isn't very relevant, is it. - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3LOL, this "trailer" makes it look a lot cooler than it actually was.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySr7V-5SRK4 - bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you noticed, though, they did put a little homage to it in when Frodo looks into Galadriel's mirror in the first movie.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+4@ cvindustries:
LOTR and The Hobbit are epics, they deserve the big screen not some miniseries, no matter how well produced. Now, Harry Potter.. I'd like to each book as a miniseries because there are lots of whimsical sub plots (of course this would never happen).
@ Robbh66:
I agree. There was something (lots of things actually) about King Kong that was just awful, but LOTR was brilliant and groundbreaking.
Plus, forget the movies! I can't wait for the DVD extras - they're so informative and immersive - the LOTR DVD extras actually confirmed my aspiration to become a direction. - PixieLittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nemoy version:

- redalert, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9why two movies?
- Boor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5*This post may contain spoilers for any pansies who Haven't read the Hobbit*
Yeh the Hobbit was shorter then 1 of the three actual lord of the rings Trilogy books. Unless they expect to add in some random irrelevant crap. Or maybe it will show Gandalfs trip to the necromancers tower... or wherever it was that he went for that extended period in the book, its been a while since I read it. I do look forward to seeing that battle near the end between the good guys and the goblins/wargs/ other mean stuff. - Dunadan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ketsugi, maybe you missed it, but limited editions did come out not too long ago. They were released maybe two months ago roughly. What they are is both version of the movie as well as documentary on the making of the movie, similar to the stuff on the limited editions of the remakes of the original Star Wars trilogy. I picked them up for $60 for all 3, because I started college and didn't own my own copies. I was very pleased with my purchase and consider it well worth the $60.
- dooms13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nah it isn't, but I liked that part too.
- OutcastJiob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@samjam: hey, I just figured something out: you're an idiot!
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Simarilion was much more like myth than the others, so it would make a very different movie. Interesting to think about, though.
- Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except LotR was already split into three parts....
- lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1except it's good stuff.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1they don't have him signed, and if they don't sign him, im not paying to see this movie. it's like how the already horrid xmen trilogy switched directors for xmen3. the first 2 were already mediocre. the last was just silly. if i wanted hack and slash, i'd re-install diablo.
- vvvv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I started reading that book "The Hobbit", but I stopped once I realized it was a transparent rip-off of the Lord of The Rings movies. Why Peter Jackson hasn't sued the guy who wrote it I'll never know.
- Subcide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This article only mentions peter jackson as who they WANT to direct it. I think after living and breating tolkein for 6 or 7 years (maybe longer) he may be a wee bit sick of it and want to do other things. Of course maybe not. No digg for pure speculation.
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jah bless
- greghunt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'll admit to not seeing any of the films you mentioned.
I can watch long films, but they have to be pretty special to be able to hold my attention, LotR just doesn't cut it for me. I can watch films like Mulholland Drive and Sin City as they are quite captivating. Even after a typical film I start fidgeting fairly quickly. Probably the reason I stick to watching TV episodes :) - yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The more NZ directors make movies the more I go to the movies. These people are natural film makers. Must be in that clean water or something they drink.
- OutcastJiob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*laughs*
It's sad, but I'm sure some brain-dead MTVites in my generation actually think that. . . . - thomasprebble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember lining up outside Christchurch Boys High back in 98/99. Inside was Peter Jackson auditioning extras for FotR. That guy has dedication. Needless to say the line was huge with some waiting 3 hours to get in. I on the other hand walked off after an hour, but wish I didn't. Just imagine how cool it would be to have yourself imortalised as a Hobbit or corpse in one of those epics. Anyway the point I'm trying to make is YAY for another chance!
- MordechaiCohen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Four words:
Peter Jackson loves money. - adb22791, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Who said anything about 3 hours? I bet they'll be at least 3 and a half, if not 4 hours. There is a large amount of detail in The Hobbit, I agree, but look at the LOTR films. There is an incredible amount of detail in the LOTR series, some of which was left out, and the films are still excellent.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Peter's Jacksons, The Hobbits: the video game of the movie.
- Dakusan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last time I heard this, if I recall, Peter Jackson came out right after and said noone had even officially talked to him about making The Hobbit, nor was he absolutely sure he wanted to.
