The Geeks That Roared!
hollywoodreporter.com — Faced with a grass-roots boycott of its films, bi-coastal protests at screenings of its Friday opener "Superhero Movie" and a campaign calling its co-chairman "Darth Weinstein," the Weinstein Co. said Monday that it now plans to release two versions of "Fanboys." | However... some still suspect... there is a dark side...

- digg it
- woofers07, on 03/26/2008, -1/+16hell hath no fury like a nerd and his Star Wars
- JettaMan, on 03/26/2008, -6/+2Wow, that's a lot of Jews. Pretty much every one.
- Lyph5, on 03/26/2008, -0/+25I'm sure they'll use this to explain why the "Superhero Movie" performs poorly. Because we all know it will.
- JUDDERMAN2429, on 03/26/2008, -0/+5That's what everyone on the net said about Meet the Spartans...and it was #1 in the box office that weekend (And I believe the next). People confuse me =/
- lotsa1s, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4People are stupid.
- jonnyeh, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1It actually fell to fourth place on its second weekend. It lost 60% in sales.

- thechosen, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3Yay?
- carpespasm, on 03/26/2008, -0/+17It was the most nasally roar ever.
- CoolDude330, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2And half the people that protested are probably on Digg right now.
- dafragsta, on 03/26/2008, -1/+11Assuming everyone on the internet isn't as cool you are is so 1998... CoolDude330, if that is your real name.
- TheLastFreeMan, on 03/26/2008, -2/+6Please use punctuation. That was probably a good zinger but I can't tell.
- yohnstoppable, on 03/26/2008, -2/+3Take a good look at the empty space before the word, "but" in your reply. Anything missing?
People who grammar nazi someone while using incorrect grammars = lame, and I'm purprosely using incorrect spelling and grammar to make it look purposeful just in case I did the same.- jonnyeh, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Meta-grammar nazis are the worst. I have purposely not tried to correct you to avoid being a meta-meta-grammar nazi.
- Hraes, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1It's okay, I'll fill that role. Two metas make a non, right?
You shouldn't have had a comma before "'but'" in your reply.

- McInternet, on 03/26/2008, -0/+0Doubtful. When Digg went mainstream, it chased that demographic back to Slashdot and Usenet.
- jonnyeh, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1It went mainstream? The front page articles say otherwise.
- bagboyrebel, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1well mainstream in the sense that it is appealing to a much more general audience than it used to.

- H0tKarl, on 03/26/2008, -1/+7I find their lack of faith in the fans disturbing.
- DanPlainview, on 03/26/2008, -3/+7This movie doesn't even sound very good. I think they are all making a big deal about nothing. I'm sure both versions of the movie will suck equally hard.
- Malovech, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I think the original cut will suck just a bit more. At least the Weinstein cut could be seen as an indictment of fanboy stupidity, the original cut sounds like a sappy after school special- we broke into Skywalker Ranch- for our dying friend! Wah wah!
- Jeffler, on 03/26/2008, -1/+6Who cares anyway? All of their movies have been crap for ages.
- TheLoneWolf071, on 03/26/2008, -0/+10For a movie named fanboys, the company seems to have no concept of that it means. When Geeks don't get what they want, they get *****.
- Malovech, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1In that case, I think they nailed it right on the head. Obsessed fans can't wait for their movie to come so they pull a B&E, adding the whole cancer angle makes gives geeks to much credit.
- MikeFallopian, on 03/26/2008, -0/+12The superior edit is whichever one has more Kristen Bell.
- WNW3, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Damn right
- stinkypyper, on 03/26/2008, -5/+5Harvey Weinstein is a walking ***** stereotype of a Hollywood producer. He is a fat sweaty monopolizing jewish ***** bag slob who has been known to purchase movies just so they are not released and cannot compete with other movies. You signed a deal with the devil himself when you made this movie with him. There is a reason the release has been delayed so long, it's because this man always gets the final say no matter what.
On a related note, hopefully the character that parodies him on Entourage straightens out Medellin, I wanna see Vinnie Chase get an Oscar. - alvination, on 03/26/2008, -0/+12Just put Kristen Bell in a bikini or something and I'll watch.
- tgunner, on 03/26/2008, -1/+1What?
- TheLastFreeMan, on 03/26/2008, -5/+5Why are the companies giving in to a bunch of fanboys? Half you people clamoring for this or that are probably going to dl the movie or something. Companies should cater to paying customers.
- Lyph5, on 03/26/2008, -0/+10You understand that fanboys tend to buy the DVD, the collectors edition, the limited edition, the re-release.. There are fans of Blade Runner who own every copy released to retail.
Fanboys spend MONEY.
And don't say fanboys should be ignored. Look at Futurama and Family Guy.- carpespasm, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4indeed, fanboys have saved many a series that was being forcibly shoved into some place never to be seen again.
Browncoats forever!
- carpespasm, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4indeed, fanboys have saved many a series that was being forcibly shoved into some place never to be seen again.
- Yakovzoya, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2How are they supposed to tell who is going to pay so they can cater to just those people?
Fanboys are exactly who you want to cater to, getting them on your side is free advertising, because they're going to tell all their friends and family about you. That's the nature of fanboy-ism.
- Lyph5, on 03/26/2008, -0/+10You understand that fanboys tend to buy the DVD, the collectors edition, the limited edition, the re-release.. There are fans of Blade Runner who own every copy released to retail.
- yohnstoppable, on 03/26/2008, -0/+6Picketing superhero movie is a good way to not get noticed. Next they'll boycott dirt.
- aerodash84, on 03/26/2008, -3/+2It sucks more for the film makers who've spent about 5 years on this movie. There was a video on digg with the producers on this subject. If it weren't for the Weintein's there probably wouldn't have been this film or any Kevin Smith film. If they really want to help this movie, go see it in theaters and buy a DVD cause there's always a director's cut. Not digging this story in support of independently made films and the people who help them see the light of day.
- devila2208, on 03/26/2008, -3/+2What does the one movie (Superhero Movie) have to do with the other movie (Fanboys)?
- DrDeThToAzT, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1They're from the same company.
- devila2208, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1OIC. Thanks!
- DrDeThToAzT, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1They're from the same company.
- hackiavelli, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4"Harvey feels it's hard to market, especially with this cast," an insider said. "He wants to market to a more teen audience. The filmmakers wanted a dramedy along the vein of 'Stand by Me.'"
Who in their right mind would swap a "Stand by Me" for another forgettable teen "comedy"? - wynja, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2Seriously ppl, our economy is melting down and we are trapped in two overseas wars with talks of a third upcoming shortly...... Do we really have nothing better to protest than a simple change in stupid movie's plot line??? Today I'm ashamed to be a geek.
