- DDDavinnn, on 07/14/2008, -8/+92This critic has done exactly what he aimed to do. He's getting our attention.
- mikesbaker, on 07/14/2008, -2/+66From the comments to the negative review. this guy hit it dead on the money:
"The only thing more remarkable than your overly critical and pretentious review of the Dark Knight is the fact that I'm complaining about it even though I'm not a fanboy. Using phrases like "...trying to find the center of a character without a dream of one." and "...to turn it into an uncivil Shavian dialogue, Don Juan in Hell with mutilations and truck crashes." Man, only in New York is such stilted and elaborately condescending speech acceptable. Although this review caught me by surprise, I was less shocked to see that you gave The Zohan a glaringly positive review, what a magnificent piece of American cinema. If you want to stand out, don't just review a highly acclaimed film negatively because it just happens to be receiving an overwhelming number of positive reviews.

You have to love it when someone said exactly what you were thinking. - Xihix, on 07/14/2008, -2/+47Settle down guys, it's not negative. I posted this in the comments section of that Blog, but it needs to be OK'd because I posted a link. Anyway, yes, it's NOT a negative review, it's actually positive. If you look on this link, you'll see it has a little "tick", meaning it was actually a positive review:
http://nymag.com/listings/movie/the-dark-knight/
Look on the other reviews on the side, the ones he reviewed positively have ticks as well. The guy is just such a horrible critic that he's mislead everyone to think he gave it a negative review, while he actually gave it a positive one... - DeviantDragon, on 07/14/2008, -2/+43Why so serious?
- oboy, on 07/14/2008, -5/+36I just don't think this will deter too many people from going.
- TheVigilante, on 07/14/2008, -5/+32He complains that the movie is too dark? Seriously? He seems to believe all comic books are happy-go-lucky and full of color and life. What a loser. The point is at coordinates (5,8) and he's at coordinates at (25,3). Totally missing it.
- SonnyW, on 07/14/2008, -2/+24...Because you wanted to be the first to comment and make your friends and family proud?
- Chalks777, on 07/14/2008, -3/+24YEAH. Screw Batman, let's talk about Pearl Harbor.
- jellydoughnut21, on 07/14/2008, -1/+20i don't see what the big deal is, it's not like every single person was going to get down on their knees and rub one out after seeing it. So someone didn't like it, big deal, lets move on. Besides, im pretty sure just about none of us have seen it yet, so calling his review bogus is just as bogus, if not more.
- otros, on 07/14/2008, -0/+14Even more, the tick apparently mean that it's a "critics' pick". That ought to be a positive thing.
- AshamedAmerican, on 07/14/2008, -2/+15Gee, guess I'll just have to bury it then.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/14/2008, -5/+18There is bound to be a super comic nerd who will proffess...
"WORST. SEQUEL. EVER....i will now watch it 27 more times so that I can point out all of its flaws and blog about how I would have made a superior film in my basement...."
just trying to make himself relevant by being an idiot. - meatstick, on 07/14/2008, -0/+12I'm not sure how you choose to live your life, but getting down on your knees seems like a awkward way to rub on out.
- colosis, on 07/14/2008, -2/+14i dont think it will deter ANYONE from going
- Anzat, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7No, the point is at (7, 10.2, 8)... he's not even on the right plane.
- billbillbilly, on 07/14/2008, -1/+7you give him too much credit, he isnt even in the right quadrant, its more like (5,8) and (-25,-3)
- smashfest, on 07/14/2008, -2/+8la la la fingers in ears
- Adam420, on 07/14/2008, -6/+11Obviously the guy writing this review just wants the attention.
Don't digg this... - Falsey, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5What an odd analogy. I like it.
- UNDERSTAR, on 07/14/2008, -1/+6I'm not saying I'm getting annoyed seeing that same quote "Why so serious?" every time I read a Batman story on Digg, but it's getting there.
- TheMidnight, on 07/14/2008, -3/+8And your ***** comment is a waste of the 0.00000001 cents it cost to store the few bytes on the server.
- theandy1, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5I don't see this as a negative review at all.
"It could only be darker if Batman died."
"When Burton's Batman came out, some prominent critics griped that the film was too violent for kids. Wait'll they get a load of this."
I didn't think I could anticipate the film anymore than I already am, but these two quotes got me even more excited. - billbillbilly, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5well I bet he just wanted to be different, everyone else is pointing out the strengths, he decided to point out weaknesses.
- enzobot24, on 07/14/2008, -0/+3While I think The Dark Knight will be a good movie, 15 positive Rotten Tomato reviews doesn't mean other critics have no right to dislike the movie.
In fact, peer pressure makes critics group together. I actually like it when a critic breaks away - how will he get more page views from hating a movie? In fact, you Diggers gave him the popularity... I guarantee you that some people will dislike this movie. It's a probability thing. It's fact.
People need to stop being social bobble-heads. - McMaster88, on 07/14/2008, -0/+3Wow. Apples to Oranges anyone? What happened to the classics?
- staticneuron, on 07/14/2008, -2/+5He has ruined no one's view of the movie. I am sure most here have not seen it yet. But in a landscape where each movie is treated to a myriad of mixed reviews (either skewed positive or negative) it seems odd for that one movie critic to stick out.
Believe it or not some people like to call attention to themselves by being the dissenting opinion. - Reaktor5, on 07/14/2008, -2/+5Okay. I'm just as excited as everyone else for the Dark Knight, I'm even going to the midnight show on Friday, but all these articles are getting a tad ridiculous.
- beermaker, on 07/14/2008, -0/+310 bucks for a movie ticket???? WTF!!
- Pusod, on 07/14/2008, -3/+6I'm sorry, but I read that critics article and it still sounds negative no matter what ticks he gives. He's like a crack head who wears a D.A.R.E. T-shirt.
- chi1thook, on 07/14/2008, -2/+5It's okay but still a comic book movie, only the people brainwashed about the overdosed actor think it's the next The Godfather
- WhiteLaser, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2How many people here who are bashing the review have even seen the movie?
I really want it to be good as much as the next guy, but I'm not so emotionally invested in the idea that I'm going to mindlessly lash out at anyone who threatens my beliefs.
The negative reviewer could very well be right, and all the other reviews are wrong and just caught up in the hype... - SenorCardgage74, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3He's not deterring me by calling it "too dark" since my main complaint about all the previous Batman films (including Batman Begins, which I thought was very good but still a bit "light") is that they were not dark ENOUGH.
- cJeremy, on 07/14/2008, -2/+4let's please stop overrating and over hyping the damn movie. 100% ??? come on, what is this? Ben Hur + Pulp Fiction + Titanic or something? jesus christ. nothing is perfect. it makes me wanna hate the movie now.
- shauncullen, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2I want to read that bioshock review, have a source?
- WhiteLaser, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2The reaction to the review strikes me as really fanboy-ish. It's like someone wrote something bad about Metal Gear Solid 4 or Smash Brothers Brawl or something.
It's that whole attitude of, "How dare you attack something I like?" (or think I'll like, or really want to like, or want to believe I like even if I know deep down it's not perfect)
People have different opinions. No piece of art is free from flaws. You don't have to freak out just because someone doesn't have the same opinion as you. - flawedprefect, on 07/14/2008, -2/+4Negative? I'd say fair. I'm still seeing it, cos I think it is a brilliant reimagining of the comic book icon, but the guy shouldn't be spurned because he's not a drooling fan-boy with a towel down his jocks.
- TheMidnight, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3Dude, I think it's time to change your tampon.
- tpmidd, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2"This is the Empire Strikes Back of comic book movies." Seems like a good thing to me.
- billpyle, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3Is one review of a movie really front page worthy? No review in the world is going to stop anyone on here from going. The only point of this being here is to get fanboys to go on the dudes site and talk ***** because he has a different opinion on the movie that they haven't even seen yet.
And god forbid if someone prefers lighter movies. Rape them and hang them for that. - inactive, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2The marketing of this film has been amazing but I still think that the movie could disappoint me. A movie needs to be complete in order to amaze me, if it's going to be a badass movie it has to be it the right way, just as 300 did (not in the same way of course). I think that this movie could be filled with old Hollywood cliches, I really hope to be wrong.
- AndrewDB, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2I can't be the only one whose looking forward to the sheer darkness of this film.
- buughost, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2hilarious i wonder how many people actually read this. it isn't a negative review you're reading, its positive.
they should have posted the actual negative review, i'd love to read a review written by someone who actually knows something and not by some "omg the dark knight" fanboi - Elranzer, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2The Dark Knight fanboys gotta realize one basic fact of life: Not everyone will like every movie.
- cavar, on 07/14/2008, -1/+2It is possible, you know, that the movie is not the dawn of a new period in cinema history.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1The movie isn't out!
- ibone, on 07/14/2008, -1/+2You mean when people give the critic exactly what he was looking for in the first place? Page views.
- ibone, on 07/14/2008, -2/+3NO way ledger would even be in talks for an Oscar for this film if he were alive.
Not to say the performance isn't worthy, but we haven't seen it yet. ***** Watch it first. - Radan, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1I haven't checked, but my money is on sonydefenseforce.com, seeing how it was an Xbox360 (and PC) exclusive.
- UNDERSTAR, on 07/14/2008, -1/+2I'm not saying I'm getting annoyed seeing that same quote "Why so serious?" every time I read a Batman story on Digg, but it's getting there.
- adasha, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1It's all part of the plan....
