- waluum, on 06/20/2009, -0/+9Great showcase of some amazing concepts from independent artists:

- black296tuuk, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3What about the Satellite of Love???
- asgardshill, on 06/20/2009, -2/+5Fail for including the Proteus from Fantastic Voyage in a list of "space cruisers". Submarines != space cruisers.
- MattBD, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3No sign of the Omega class destroyers from B5, or the Prometheus or Daedalus-class vessels from Stargate. Shame - they actually had a solid, military feel to them - they actually looked like warships probably would. But wish they'd shown more of the cool Peacekeeper Command Carriers from Farscape.

- Warsie, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Where's the stuff from Legend of Galactic Heroes or Robotech or whatnot
see this link as an example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upS-pi-sOAQ&fea ... - aywwts4, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2It looks like the star wars screen shots were taken from the remastered CGI versions and not the original models... Which sort of matters for this kind of chronological look.
- sharkd, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Seriously lacking any Space: Above and Beyond, which had at least one "Space Carrier"

- shipwreck58, on 06/20/2009, -1/+3Dugg for the rightious mention of both Space: 1999 and the original Battlestar Galactica, superior Sci-Fi shows to the lame original Star Trek.
- fragomatik, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I saw it....but no *mention* of it in the text, is what I meant...
- rft3rd, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Dugg for the image of the motherships from V.
Can't wait to see what the re-imagining looks like. - zambuka, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1A look at the star cruiser isn't really complete without adding a section pretty much devoted to Chris Foss.

Inspiration for the star ships in many popular games, Homeworld for example.
Designer for the star ships for some popular TV shows and movies as well as the cover artist for a whole slew of science fiction novels from Asimov, Heinlen and many others.. - d1verse, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1I always loved that design and the awesome way it moved around!
- lex0nyc, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2Star Trek movies Enterprise? It's like a Cadillac, smooth lines, highly architectural and specifically detailed. A departure from the Imperial Star Destroyer cobbled model kits look this thing says didn't go away until TNG. I appreciate some of the rare stuff they pulled out, but this is badly assembled.
- bluekangaroo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1They included the ship from 2001 in two different eras. Even if it was supposed to be the one from 2010, the design was from 1968's 2001
- aywwts4, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Lexx is the first ship "After Star Trek: The Next Generation"
- shipwreck58, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1I am totally in agreement with your comments.
- sanman, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1space cruisers sure have changed from when I was a kid

Rotating hulls FTW. - fabkebab, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Dugg for space 1999!!! (Where is the liberator though from Blakes 7?)
- Smigge87, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1I thought it was awesome that the Planet Express ship was right above Serenity, which was right before the Galactica. 2 of those shows need to be brought back. I'll let you decide which
- michaelrsa, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1If there was any medium that in my opinion had the best space cruisers it was Halo. Sure it might have lost it after the first game but they really put a lot of design into the human and covenant ships.
- octafbr, on 06/21/2009, -0/+0did not digg
- fragomatik, on 06/20/2009, -2/+2Not bad...but pretty much cobbled together from Star Trek, Star Wars and Babylon 5 offerings. No mention of any truly innovative ships like the Lexx. And saying that the 2001 ships looked "lived in" is an error in my opinion. If anything, 2001 ships were stark, aseptic places. Dark Star was the first mainstream movie to give us the "tramp-steamer" feel. Then of course Alien brought us some wonderful, gritty designs that looked functional as well as "lived-in", but no mention of the Nostromo at all. Or Geiger's nightmarish, organic alien spaceships for that matter. All in all I'd give the article a 5/10.
