- SaintDogbert, on 10/12/2007, -16/+112He should re-release it in 3B. Three beers and it might start to look good.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -8/+56That guy could project episode 12 on the moon for all I care at this point. Now that I'm getting my original trilogy in its original form, Lucas is dead to me.
- llandeiloBoy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+43its the only way the film will ever get some depth.
- GeniusCube, on 10/12/2007, -9/+443D Jar Jar... No, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- BigPapi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27Well... at least it's not Howard the Duck. 3D or not, it's still going to suck.
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Now it can suck in 3 dimensions. It will be like your really there while it's sucking.
- jschrab, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22It will probably cost ten bucks to see - and as we all know "Ten bucks is ten bucks."
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Meesa want more money!
- happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18My thoughts exactly.
Dibs on skywalker ranch. - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I think he's pissing on the ashes now.
- sillywampa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I guess nobody else got your Strange Brew reference? "the power of the force stopped you you hosers"
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I don't know if it was projected on the moon, I think i'd have to step out side to ***** see that *****.
- z0l0pht, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Screw the plot, I'll pay the $9 to see Natalie Portman in 3d.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17How did I know this would be filled with Anti-Pre-Trilogy threads?
People, get over it. Jar Jar may be a little annoying, and could be toned down. But so could the Ewoks, and so could have a lot of other things in many franchises. Short Round in Temple of Doom could have shut his mouth once in a while too. But, Lucas and all other film makers are just men, give them a break, and be happy he brought you something that while it had its down points, did some great things for the industry and gave you plenty of enjoyment.
We all know that if Episode 1 came out when Episode 4 did, people would have been JUST as amazed by it because of all of the special effects and the familiar storylines. And if Episode 4 came out when Episode 1 did, people would have found more ways to knock on Episode 4.
It's film, not life, you will live. Every movie has its pros and cons, and Episode 1 had 30 years of Hype behind it for people to be disappointed in.
Quit your yappin, it does nothing but spam the internet. - mooseboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Oh boy.. I wonder if he'll replace all the droids with ewoks, and guns with walkie-talkies....
- quakefiend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Amen man... 3D gives me a headache anyway."
you poor soul, either you only have one eye or you always have a headache. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I hear it'll be starring a dead horse.
- PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Ok, I found your randomness funny at first but now youre being a taint
- phrak, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15George Lucas is simply living the American dream: He's trying to build a giant silo full of gold coins so he can swim in it daily, a la Scrooge McDuck. I would be a liar if I said I could fault him for that.
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8At least its no longer about money to him, its just some sick, twisted social experiment to see how much ***** we'll take from him.
- MadOgre, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Wow... this guy is amazing. Add a layer of digital effects, call it a "new release" and have every fanboy in the verse buy the same damn movie over and over again.
BetaMax. VHS. Lazer Disk. Special Edition. DVD.... any time now we'll see Blu-Ray... HD... PSP... I'm surprised their is no GameBoy DS version already. - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7levi,
That's not what was in the press release, the movies that are coming out will be the original theatrical movies that were shown starting in 1977. For instance, Star Wars will be just that...Star Wars. No Episode IV: A New Hope...no Jabba....no Greedo shooting first....no redone effects. The original movie from 1977 as it appeared in 1977. The only thing I hadn't heard or read that it was coming from the Laserdisc version.
Maybe you got confused, the release will ALSO include the SE edition along with the original. - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Nothing like taking the worst of all six movies and trying to churn out another buck off of it. Can we expect some 3D marketed merchandise to buy for our kiddies next year too! Oh joy!!
- jdavid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think Lucas is right, but for a different reason. With boxoffice sales dropping in the wake of the internet, gaming and HDTV. Saying i want to see it on the big screen just doesnt mean the same thing anymore. However saying. "I want to see it in 3D" is something that home theater can't compete with right now.
Releasing a HD 3D digital film experiance will create a unique value add to going to the boxoffice once agian. - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Couldn't agree more. For all the incessant whining about The Phantom Menace, there's some kick-ass stuff in the film and it does a great job of laying the groundwork for the next two films. There's nothing wrong with The Phantom Menace and the prequels that wasn't also wrong with the original movies, but I think viewers have become more jaded and cynical and the original films have attained an air of the sacred. They have bad acting moments, wonky effects, plot holes and annoying characters just like the prequels. The point of these movies is to go and have fun with them, not to view them like high art. If you can't do that, you're missing the point.
- ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hey, I usually have to pay $50 for that.
- Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The magazine article in question says that Lucas intends to release ALL SIX MOVIES in 3D. This web site just ignores that fact and selectively quotes part of it. Reported as inaccurate.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -6/+111999 called. It wants its trendy Star Wars bashing back.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You don't know how much time I spent on that damn game..
walk.. fall in a hole, maybe find a bit of telephone.. raise your neck and hope like hell you can make it out.. make it out, walk 3 inches, fall in another hole, try to get out.. chase Elliot for no aparent reason, fall into a hole, try to get out.. rinse and repeat. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Hooray! I'm sure that Jake Lloyd saying "Yipee!" in 3D will just be amazing, as will Liam Neeson explaining how The Force, this wonderful energy that surrounds all living things that we grew to dream about as a child, is actually just some funky organism in your belly.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4
He also represents offensive, racist, un-PC-ness.
No, just half-hearted character development from a tired old man burdened with the Star Wars legacy. Jar-Jar was handled badly, he could have been a little less over-the-top, but the motivation for creating him was not wrong or misguided.
Jar-Jar's origins are perfectly in line with the theme of the prequels. Jar-Jar was supposed to be a Gunga Din-like primitive "native" character. Have you ever seen the original Gunga Din or know the story? And do you think that it is any coincidence that Jar-Jar is a GUNGAn?
http://www.starwars.com/databank/species/gungan/
So you see, once again Lucas pays homage to the classic adventure movies he grew up on, and makes another subtle comment about colonialism/imperialism. This has ALWAYS been at the heart of Star Wars. And you ungrateful infidels thought he was making all this stuff up just to sell action figures? How little you know... - Stryker412, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6They're working on the original trilogy in 3D for it's 30th anniversary next year. I don't have a link but it's been stated a few times.
- galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Arguably, the Popular Science discussion of the 3D sounds really, really good (the sample scene is from Attack of the Clones during the chase scene on Coruscant) and beyond the old red/blue cardboard 3D glasses (though it might be closer to the 3D we see in the 3D shows at amusement parks, etc. - akin to Shrek 3-D at Universal Studios).
It brings a chance to address the fans' issues with new versions. Now, will they address them? Who knows?
I am a film geek - I admit it. I have numerous versions of the original trilogy. I buy multiple versions of DVDs to be able to compare items (like The Exorcist, or the two Exorcist prequels). So I am hoping for an HD version of all six SW movies next year where different edits are optional (choose your edit: restored theatrical release, 1997 Special Edition, original DVD edit of each movie, or a "definitive" edit for the new discs). I guess adding the 3D versions might be cool if the 3D versions are any good...
Well, I'm sure we'll see a whole new slew of product for the 30th anniversary next year. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Howard the Duck was better than SW I in any D...
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Maybe you should take a step back and look at how your comment is in parallel to mine.
And calling Lucas profane words, cursing about a fictional character, and repeating the same four letter word comments on end over and over, hardly quality as a movie review.
We all have our opinions yes, but there is also such a thing as respect. Saying that George Lucas can perform a sexual act with my mother or the like, is not adding anything relevant to the topic, just being an idiot. - eclypser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Well, I guess if the movie sucks, I'll just open the jar of moths I sneaked into the theater.
- spiderland, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9George Lucas should do a "Special Edition" of Episode 1, and edit Jar Jar out. Heck, at the very least, have a different voice for him.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"... its just some sick, twisted social experiment to see how much money he can take from us."
There, fixed that for ya. ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Free Hat! Free Hat! Free Hat!
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Where is it written that the original films that are going to be released on DVD this fall are coming from the laserdisc versions? I didn't see anything saying that.
Can someone provide a link? Or is it just a wild-ass guess on some people's part? - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why the hell was my comment dugg down more than this guy's:
"hate to say it I agree"
WTF? I was asking a relevant question to the subject matter at hand, and asking for a little help. I haven't heard of a new SW DVD release, and you ***** go out of your way to make sure I don't get any help. Thanks for being teh 1337 - ILL_Robinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah, but who's the more foolish? The fool, or the fool that follows him?
As my dad used to say "If they could sell the dust to this movie, they would." - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3IMAX shows the 3D films... and last I saw the prices (Saw Polar Express (yeah obvious tag!), it
was $18.00 per ticket! That was just for the movie alone... then the popcorn was almost just as much.
Eh...give me my original trilogy on DVD, and thats the end of my dealings with Lucas.
Who knows maybe Lucas may superimpose a Busty DDD (get it 3 D!) model over Princes Leia... now that
I may consider seeing .. only Jedi though.
"Master Luke.. it appears Princes Leia has knocked Mr Solo out again with her bosoms... what do you mean
by Knockers R2... behave!" -C-3P0 - jkeegan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Anyone who watched Episode III and didn't love it isn't a Star Wars fan.
Go ahead and jump on the "gee I liked the original trilogy best!" bandwagon if you want - it takes the least amount of thought/argument, and you can feel accepted amongst others who also agree that seeing one character - Jar Jar - made the entire prequel set unwatchable. But you're not being clever, insightful, nor fair. ..and you've lost what you miss the most - the ability to enjoy.
I was born in 1970 so I was 7 when Episode IV came out.. If there's anyone who should be loyal to the "first" trilogy it's me - and I am, they were awesome.. was episode I as good as 4,5,6? In many ways, no, and in many other ways, yes. Was II? II was far far better in my opinion. III? Episode III might even be better than Empire. Of course, the people who mentally checked out after Episode I don't know that.
Episode III was so incredible (with perhaps one small flaw - the poor audio/sound of Vader exclaiming Nooo) that anyone not appreciating it is, in my opinion, sad that they're no longer a kid.. They crave that amazement, wonder, and awe that they had as a kid, and they're unable to distinguish the original trilogy from that joy - even after rewatching them.
Thankfully George Lucas isn't spending his time reading Digg comments.. If he was though, I'd thank him for some of the best movies ever made, for changing movies as we know them, for ushering in technologies left and right, and for giving us the incredible journey of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side.. I eagerly await the ability to pay more to see them in 3D - easily money well spent. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Lucas's next move is a Star Wars television show... seriously.
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The series was finished with Jedi.... the Empire was defeated.
- MrUnderbridge, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I'm hoping for an alternate ending. Maybe they can give Jar-Jar the Poochie treatment from the Simpsons, and decapitate him or something.
I was really hoping that would be the opening scene in Episode II. Hear this sickening chop, then JarJar's head rolling along the ground, ears flopping along.
Sorry was that too graphic for Digg's teenage audience? - somerandomnerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wild ass guess.
Well, a wild-ass, backed up by some creative interpretations of Lucasfilm staffs (Philip Wise) offhand comments, but it amounts to pretty much the same thing. - mabba18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All of the movies were made for 12 year olds. How many 12 year olds in 1977 are still huge Star Wars fans today?
The problem that most people have with the new trilogy is that they expect to feel the same way about the films as they did when they were 12. - datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Can George Lucas please remove his hand from my wallet!!!
