- Surefoot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Since when does an entry in IMDB mean confirmation of anything? There's a reason IMDB is often referred to as Inaccurate Movie Database.
- LunchMoney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29http://www.alaph.com/spiderman/enemies/sandman.html
- Ranadok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Yeah, if Digg was for movies, there would be a movies category!
Oh... wait... - Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Hey, bearvsshawn, I care about the movie, and the OP is right. Just because this is on IMBd does not mean it's true, and with movies like this, with the way things are being kept secret there is no way the entire plot is just going to appear on imbd, sorry.
Wait till we see a trailer or something. Untill then, you take things like this with a huge grain of salt. Trust me, I'm a movie geek way before anything else. - pmcall221, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Maybe you haven't noticed rspeed but there is a movie category for digg and this is in it.
Check it out some time.
http://www.digg.com/movies - pondster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"I wonder if JJ's son will be going up into space to bring the Venom back to earth like in the cartoon"
Ahh, kids nowadays - you need to study your history lol - Back in the day there was a series called "Secret Wars", In that story Spiderman, while fighting on another planet ripped his suit - he found a new suit - a black suit - after getting back to earth he realized the suit was trying to take over his body (being an alien itself) he found a way to dispose of the alien - and it found itself Eddie Brock - and merged with him -
Many good stories came out of the venom encounters, stop by your local comic shop and check out "Amazing Spiderman" starting with issue 298 (First cameo of venom) to the early 300's (Mcfarlane did some excellent work around then) - Al.x, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Sandman?
- cherrybomb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12So true. He's not trying to put it down, bearvsshawn... he's just telling it like it is. IMDB has a pretty bad track record.
- nothingtobedone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12three villains (sandman, green goblin, venom) in one movie? oh, and a new love interest, a new (evil) suit, and the death of a major character (MJ?). is anyone else worried that it may be a bit too much plot to squeeze into one movie? of course, I still think it is going to be awesome
- Shmoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This doesn't seem like a real confirmation. IMDB has made mistakes in the past.
- TheRunes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I'm guessing its Gwen Stacey who dies. In the comics she dies and it messes Pete up bad. Eventually Pete and MJ get married in the comics.
- vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"I'm really glad that Venom is going to be in the next movie. I wonder if JJ's son will be going up into space to bring the Venom back to earth like in the cartoon (Don't know if it was ever in the comic. I could never aford comics.) or if they are going to introduce it some other way."
IIRC it was actually peter who brought back the symbiote from the secret wars. wayyyyy before that cartoon, when comics were about a quarter - jaimz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6In the original Dark Horizons article, Dale states:
"*Note** Sony has NOT released an official synopsis as yet, this one I penned and is an estimation based on a large amount of confirmed script story details that were leaked online in February 2006**."
So this is in no way an official confirmation.
Article: http://www.darkhorizons.com/2007/spiderman3.php - samsonlonghair, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6IMDB has no more accuracy than movie fan gossip forums.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Well, they have the benefit of being able to jump right into the action without a whole lot of setup. I mean, it's not like they have to re-tell the origin story or anything.
- Scrud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I really doubt that they will do much with venom until the end of the movie, kind of like what they did at the end of spiderman 2 when Harry found the goblin suit. It will just serve to set up the next movie.
- KingAR_II, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I tip my hat to the Spider-Man team (and X-Men as well). I remember the days when I was afraid of sequels, but franchises like these just keep getting better.
They now realize that you need to take time to develop stories and really push out quality content instead of rushing a release to ride the wave of the first installment. - briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This could be a cool movie if done right, but I'm going to wait until there's some more official confirmation, like from Sony or the directors themselves.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The description above describes this as "official confirmation", but "dark horizons posting on IMDB" is neither official nor a confirmation. :)
Also I doubt they would have Sandman, Hobgoblin/Green Goblin 2, and Venom in such promiment roles...
I also thought that Betty Brandt was supposed to be Peter's girlfriend in this film, from what the actress who plays her, Elizabeth Banks, let slip recently. - meekar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I completely agree, but this does sound fairly plausible and is a decent plot nonetheless, so I'll digg it.
- GoombaZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I would say that 3 villains is way too much to put in one movie. The other two movies have done a great job of capturing the emotional content of the Spiderman comics (in my opinion). On the other hand, I feel that the Xmen movies have been lacking on character development, and I would say it is because the movies focused more on the action than on human interaction (and by human I'm not talking about mutant to human, just dialogue and drama in general). The Harry Osbourne/Green Goblin plot is a movie in itself, let alone if you throw in Venom (they have to establish Eddy Brock's hatred for Peter Parker for that). The Sandman isn't really a big deal as far as I am concerned. Anyway, my bet is that they go the cartoon route and the suit comes from space with JJ's son. I don't think the general public would buy into the Infinity Wars, I know I didn't.
- mfaith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I think you are right on with this. The first thing I thought when reading this was that it had way too ambitious of a plot. With that much density, there is no way that the movie would be able to do an adequate job of developing these very important plot elements. I hope this is not an accurate description of the plot. I think they should stick with venom and sandman as villains, and maybe set up the harry/green goblin plot for the next movie. The Gwen Stacy angle sort of surprises me also, because it almost seemed that in the movies Mary Jane was taking on the identity of both herself and Gwen Stacy from comic lore.
- RobertHeadley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah... not only is it on idmb.com witch immediately lowers its dependability.. but it was reported by darkhorizons.com
Now, I love DH as much as anyone else, but I don't see this as confirmation, but more than likely a possible summary and just cause it has Eddie Brock and a Black suit, doesn't even mean venom is in it....Sam Raimi hates venom. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I actually have the comic where Mr Fantastic is trying to get the suit off of Peter and he finds out the suit is an actual living organism and not some "advanced" alien technology. I think Spider-man looks more bad ass with the old black suit.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exterior Shoot in Los Angeles (with pictures, no Venom) - http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224535&page=8
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was editing my post and part of it disappeared. The last word is supposed to be "revealed."
Now, we have seen the black suit, and numerous set reports have confirmed that Eddie Brock (played by Topher Grace) is in the movie as well, so seeing Venom, if only briefly, is not a stretch. The AICN Q&A referenced by many commenters here was sent by a Hype! poster, who took it from a thread (the person giving the answers is a newbie claiming to be an insider) and added information, such as the bit about Bruce Campbell playing Quentin Beck and Aunt May dying, to see if AICN would buy it. - levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You never know the real plot, but judging at this information it seems rather logical in some ways and kinda practical 3 villans, heck next thing you know cassedy will be in the movie, if more plots and twists, I hope they will make this movie long like in Lord or the rings, like 2 hours 50 min approx I'm guessing is the movie length.
- aiwha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It took over 100 issues to get there.
- Fr0sTy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! MUST HAVE IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..... although the cgi may not be so good if it came out now............... hmmmmm......... WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
- monkeyballsoup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Leave the exictement to those that actually care about the movie, and leave your negative feedback to yourself. When I don't like something, or disagree with something I see on Digg, I ignore it. Take a page out of my book."
Oh, the irony. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2According to the IMDB, my friends and I were all writers and sketch characters on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in the mid 90s!
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Honestly dude, why waste the time to comment something if you're just going to put it down?"
Except your description isn't a confirmation of anything and is taken exactly from a Dark Horizons report from three weeks ago. You do realize that everthing on the IMDb is user-submitted without fact checking? It's a decent resource, but it doesn't confirm anything. It's like Wikipedia with a two week time delay. - cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That description of the plot is directly ripped from a fan-fic plot that was posted in the message boards for the film. While seemingly plausible, I don't buy it until I hear official confirmation.
- iGern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1w00t! Venom is the best baddie out there.. I can't wait till this comes out!
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Even so, it's not an official summary, and it's in no way some huge revelation. It's another bit of speculation, and that's all we have until there's an official release.
I swear, there will be people rioting in the streets when something tangible is released if it's not the behemoth many are anticipating because they forget to take these things with a grain of salt. - iKato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The summary's not from IMDB, it's from Dark Horizons. Look at the source link at the bottom.
- Vesty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think it was on AICN they were talking about how Kirstin Dunst wants MJ to die, to get out of the movies. So it could be possible they're going to do that and replace her with Gwen. Though that would completely change how Spiderman is and more than likely piss off the fanbase and hurt the movie.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What did I ever do to Sam Raimi?
- theLEGENDisBACK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think they should lead up to the venom thing... at the end of the movie, just kinda hint that venom would be in the next movie. As for now keep it sandman and green goblin
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yes!!! yes!!!! yes!!!
- stupidclese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How are they supposed to fit all of that plot into one movie? I don't think you could tell a story like that in two hours.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ohhh *****... i hope they make venom look really fked up and menacing. He was my favorite marvel villain... of. all. time.
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2She didn't say that. She said their relationship would be further explored, but what that means is not clear at this point. Since MJ and Gwen Stacy are both in it, I doubt the Betty Brant relationship is headed in that direction too. But I could easily be wrong.
@PacoDG: He didn't say that. He said that he didn't know much about Venom because he grew up reading the classic comics and loved the oldschool villains. By the time Venom came out in the '80s, I don't think Raimi was even reading Spidey anymore. But his lack of knowledge on the character could easily have been rectified by reading some comics and/or watching TAS. The black suit IS (confirmed by Sony themselves) in this movie, so Venom IS nearby, whether in this movie or the next. - kunit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hell yeah spiderman kicks ass! i love these movies, the best comic to movie adaptation yet as well as x-men
- TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wouldn't count IMDB as your source for accurate information regarding plot details from a movie, The fact the black substance, It doesn't even go into details where it came from, In the comics and in the cartoons, The black substance is actually an alien sembient that attached itself onto the space shuttle which was piloted by john Jameson which was heading back to Earth.
- bearvsshawn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I see your point. How is a movie littered with CGI qualify as tech related? Damn... I must be retarded.
- j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Because they are staggering the releases of X-Men and Spiderman movies.
- mikes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Awsome, I can't wait!! Why is it going to take until 2007 to see the movie though. It shouldn't take that long. when was spiderman 2 released?? I think 2004, so that means it's going to take 3 years to make this movie?? Thats crazy!
- ZachPruckowski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think a nice fact about Digg is that the people decide what they want on the front page. Even if it is only perpherially tech-related.
- Exedus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Haven't you been reading the comments? This story was reported on darkhorizons.com a few weeks ago as well as superherohype. They are both usually pretty accurate. I think this story is probably true. We already knew Venom would be involved since Sony released the poster of Spidey in the dark suit. I've heard that Eddie Brock as Venom will be revealed at the end of the movie, setting up a confrontation for Spiderman 4.
