Spider-Man 4 Confirmed
slashfilm.com — "There will be many more Spider-Man films to come," Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige reveals. "We already have stacks of ideas for the next one because of the wealth of stories in the comics. We could be making Spider-Man movies for the next 20 years, based on the 50 years of Spider-Man history we have."

- andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -3/+82Dugg because I agree that there are many possibilities for more Spiderman movies, but I don't know if the public would really be interested in seeing "Spiderman 13".
- gothsquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Just as long as they don't just churn them out like the did with some of the last James Bond movies.
- muller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Well, look at James Bond. True, the idea of a super agent (with next to no storyline running over multiple movies) is more timeless and better lends itself to a long-running movie franchise, but people seem to have gobbled up comic book-based movies for YEARS now and show little signs of slowing... so it wouldn't surprise me too much if Spider-Man movies did continue for a long time, occasionally re-casting the stars (much like the Bond movies).
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30"Spiderman 13?"
If Raimi directs, I can dig it.

*if the films make money - ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20This is what happens when guys in suits are put in charge of movie-making. All they see is a willing audience and dollar signs.
Meanwhile, creative people (and much of the public at large) see something completely different. What they see is a horse... laying out in the grass... and a bunch of old guys in suits gathered around it. They're holding sticks and are pounding at the dead carcass, over and over and over again.
Business executives simply lack the ability to distinguish between what makes good "business sense" and what people are actually willing to buy. Sometimes the two are one and the same. Often times, they are very different. - Langford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I could dig a bunch of movies. Just gotta go in with a "movie series" attitude instead of thinking in terms of trilogies and stuff. It all depends if they do a good job on average.
- dcoolidge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Rocky only made it to 5 ;)
- wildleaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The moment the market stops showing up and paying for the tickets (which ticket sales are tightly tied to success of a movie), then they will stop making additional Spider-Man movies. Bitching about the lack of "creativity" does not come into play in this situation. Obviously people WANT them to keep making Spider Man movies. The same cannot be said for other series.
I am just waiting for the movie attendance for Spider man 5-7 to decline just enough for them to make a TV series out of it. I'd like to see it as a TV series instead of movies. Less wait time between stories. - runep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@dcoolidge

- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They obviously will go through many recastings if the series goes past four. Mcguire has already stated that the third film will more than likly be his last. Also I doubt Raimi will direct many more if it does need recasting. I am not saying I am against it, but I just dont want them to ruin the series.
- joemawlma, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Holy *****?! They made a Spiderman 3 ??
WOW. - MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just hope they stick to the quality of the characters and stories. unlike what happened to Batman after Batman Returns...
- 23MAL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@MobbyG:
But you've got to remember that they fixed it with Batman Begins... - phantom_mullet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me of the "Land Before Time" series for kids. They've made at least ten of those last I heard...geez
- technique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate to say it, but the actress that plays one of the most beloved characters -- Aunt May -- probably isn't going to live that long. She was excellent in her role, and it wouldn't be the same with a substitute.
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure I would like to watch Spider-man without Tobey and Kustin.
Not that I'm gonna like Spider-man with old Tobey Maguire and old Kustin Dunst

- victheslick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18save your 10 bucks for Spiderman 3 because as we all know, by the time the film comes out, it will cost more than 10 to get you in
- wildleaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I live in New York. $10 can't get you in to a large portion of movie theatres here on the island. It's sad really. For my wife and I, it is cheaper to have a 3 DVD at a time netflix subscription than to go to one movie.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I thought Raimi said he was doing at least six movies, at the time of the Spider-Man 2 press release. I always figured Carnage would mark the end of the series...
- InferiorWang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I for one would love to see them explore the carnage story on the big screen.
- dannywsu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Hey, Friday the 13th has almost made it to 13 movies and they suck, why not Spider-Man??
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Because they're far more expensive and demands a much larger audience to be profitable (i.e. they simply can't suck as much)
- InferiorWang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Budget, dear sir. Budget.
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Almost the entire cast of characters and director will be different correct? Toby and Dunst have expressed zero interest past the trilogy and Rami has said the same.
Who knows how this could go...
Either way, I will go see Spider-man films as long as they maintain the quality of the previous two.- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22"Toby and Dunst have expressed zero interest past the trilogy and Rami has said the same."
Until they get offered that fat paycheck, because they will now be typecast and hardly able to get work BESIDES Spiderman. - apetrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree that a fat paycheck (and possibly a good script) could easily change their minds, however I don't think either of them have to worry about being typecast. They both had very good careers previously and neither of the characters they play are such distinct personalities (not while in plainclothes at least) that they could only be seen that way in the future.
- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I saw an interview with Toby saying he is excited to know what role he could possibly be playing in 4 5 and 6, because not even he knows what "path" Sam Raimi will take.
Personally I hope they use Gwen Stacy (in the next movie) to introduce the Scarlet Spider in 5... or even 4 if they can get that far. That was really confusing and I'm guessing they would "dumb" it down a bit, but the clone was kick ass. - joethepeacock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The Spider Clone storyline was - with the exception of Magneto ripping the Adamantium out of Wolverine's body - the dumbest storyline / plot twist in all of comic history.
Yes, even dumber than Youngblood. - yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Then I got a storyline. Spiderman(Tobey Mcguire) will be kidnapped by UFOs. and then new member(the antagonist of Terminator 2) will be assigned the job of substitute Spiderman. But Tobey Mcguire will be back in the last Spiderman movie. ("My back? my back?")
- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22"Toby and Dunst have expressed zero interest past the trilogy and Rami has said the same."
- Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The closer they stick to the comic story lines the better it will be.
Most of those stories are time tested, not some new made up Hollywood story.- DanLikesBeer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd normally agree with you. From what I've seen from posts here, many have read the books over the years (myself included). Seeing it come to 'life' isn't always as cool as I thought it would be. A storyline that's original and surprising, but not just updating of a decades old plot line that you KNOW the outcome of, might be pretty cool.
- ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some studios never know when to give a great thing up. If Raimi isn't directing then I'm not going to see it.
- spengy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Just don't overdo it.. Please?
- bjkrautk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The real question is whether they can keep Rami interested in directing Spider-Man movies. His vision for the franchise has remained true to a number of the comic's traditions, but not constrained by them.
Spider-Man could easily become the 21st Century equivalent to the Bond franchise, as the source material is there. The real trick is keeping the franchise out of the hands of anyone who wants to go campy with it (a la Joel Schumacher & Batman). - themarq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sweet, I've got my fingers crossed for Electro as the villan this time out.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6 I just wonder if they'll be keeping Toby McGuire for the rest of the movies since the age factor comes into play at around Spiderman 25...
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Toby McGuire? He still looks like a twenty year old kid! You know how old he really is? The man is fifty-seven years old!! FACT!
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ilyag
I modded you up for your comedy. But another fact is, his name is spelled Tobey Maguire. (And he was born in 1975, according to IMDB.) - ozid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ ilyag.
hilarious. +1 thumbs up.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think that's what they were saying with the Batman movies and they fizzled out after 4... and then they had to totally start over...
IDK how many they would do since they are introducing Venom in movie 3... cause who wants to see Lizard be a major villian after seeing Venom?- Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I doubt that the Lizard will be a major villian, probably just a villian he fights in the first hour of the movie.
And isn't Venom the badguy in Spidey 4? I thought that he was only introduced in this one but wasn't a bad guy in it. - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10batman and robin is what killed it. that was a REALLY BAD film.
maybe if you were tripping balls itd be entertaining. - ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I think that's what they were saying with the Batman movies and they fizzled out after 4... and then they had to totally start over..."
So, uhh, they said they would do a lot of Batman movies, and they ARE doing a lot of Batman movies. What's your point? The fact that the franchise had a temporary dip in popularity? (Key word there is "temporary") - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ CiXel Don't you think Spiderman would jump the shark just as easily?
- InferiorWang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ilyag:
He's talking about the fact that the sequel to Returns is going to introduce the Joker. They are starting over again instead of continuing the storyline which seems to happen a lot with comic-book based movies. We get reinterpretations of the beginning with plans to continue the story, but the movies become crap and they start over again and again.
Personally, there aren't many movies I go to see anymore, but Spiderman is one of the few I'll continue to watch at the theatre as long as they can keep doing them well. It would be nice if they could really explore the world of Spiderman before the quality drops off, but as history has shown us, it is just a matter of time. - steviepunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The big mistake that the Batman series made was that for the 3rd and 4th films (Forever, Batman and Robin) they fell into the mindset that 'Bigger is better', so things go more over the top and unbelievable. The first two might not have been realistic but they held a consistent view on the world of Gotham that wasn't too far out from reality. To an extent, the last few Bond movies have done the same.
So long as Spiderman can avoid falling into this trap, they stand a good chance maintaining the standard that has been set. If Raimi does move on and someone else takes over, so long as the studios don't go on the cashing in route we should at least have movies that are good, even if they don't match the first two.
- Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I doubt that the Lizard will be a major villian, probably just a villian he fights in the first hour of the movie.
- macinjosh, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Good lord. this is lame. Spiderman 1 was good. 2 was ok. Its going downhill. Please spare us hollywood!
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can't say "it's going downhill" after 2 movies - not unless part 2 was horrible - which it wasn't (even your own words say it was ok). Even 1 bad movie can be a fluke. It takes at least 2 bad movies to have a trend.
- Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What the hell are you talking about. The 2nd movie was better than the first.
- OMGWTFROFLMAO, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3"We already have stacks of ideas for the next one because of the wealth of stories in the comics. We could be making Spider-Man movies for the next 20 years, based on the 50 years of Spider-Man history we have."

and
Wolverine vs. Spiderman
Looking forward to what they have up either sleeves- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I mentioned up a couple comments about the Scarlet Spider storyline. Carnage and Venom would allow this. Gwen Stacy is in the next movie, I THINK Prof. Warren is in the next one, they are throwing a lot of characters from the comic book into this next movie to keep their options open for the next batch of movies.
With Prof. Warren, that opens the doors for a Punisher (cast Thomas Jane from the Punisher movie? haha) vs. Spiderman battle too.
Of course this whole Venom thing could also lead to Spiderman going into space and fighting along side the X-Men and Captain America. I hope to god that doesn't happen. I believe they are going to use that astronaut from the last movie to bring in the symbiot suit. There are a lot of things they could do.

If they don't go over board on the computer generated stuff (ie star wars 1, 2, 3) then it should have staying power. Tell a good story, people will go see.
Comic movies are just about the only movies I go see at a theater now anyways. I can wait 6months and bit torrent the DvD. - batfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Old news, it was already decided that they would make at

http://www.movieweb.com/news/24/7724.php - HotSlag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sam Raimi not directing Spider-Man is like Bryan Singer not directing X-Men.
Now, to clarify, I'll be the first to say X3 was a GOOD movie. Not the best of the series, but definitely not the let-down that most people make it out to be.
In Conclusion: If Spider-Man 4 is different than 3, so be it. It doesn't automatically make it a bomb, I'll still look forward to it. - crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At this point, I really think that 3 movies is enough for any series, with the exception of Star Wars and 007.
