- Xiol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Pi and Requiem were awesome films that weren't given enough publicity.
Having made my gf recently watch Requiem (and be freaked out by it) I'm going to be forcing her to watch Pi next, heh.
+digg. - lofidan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23ASS TO ASS!!
(probably the only time I'll ever get to shout this on Digg and not be off-topic!) - commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'm glad there is still a market for films that have original screenplays (read not a remake, sequal, or based on a book). Arnofsky is one of the few film makers of today that can be regarded as an artist using film as a true artistic medium. I hope this film does well at the box office so the MPAA realizes maybe people would rather see a quality movie than Big Mammas House 5: Big Mammas Triple Bypass.
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19we have an imagination... and we know the film maker.
- Tony2Nice, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Cinematography, special effects, directing, casting...etc etc. Looking forward to it, personally.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14in those kiddies defense- requiem for a dream didnt make a small portion of what The Two Towers did, and since the two towers had it in their trailer, dot dot dot.
- veter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14did you not understand it? Pi's concept is phenomenal...An insane amount of throught went into that movies plot. It ties in math, sacred geometry, man vs computer, concepts of what makes us human, and sanity...rarely will you find a film that ties so many concepts together so elegantly.
- 20miles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Any film branded in Arial Black gets my box office receipt.
- Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10You did, this is quite old.
Thanks for getting my hopes up. I thought this was a new one for a minute. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9this is technically a teaser not a trailer... still looks cool though...
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"I know its pretty babe, but I didn't take it out just for air...."
- monolith, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Looks good. But I gotta say... I watched Pi on recommendation... and I HATED IT. Sorry. Technically proficient film... great acting... but the whole premise and story were lame. I couldn't get over that... Hoping for the best on this one though.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"Pi and Requiem were awesome films that weren't given enough publicity."
Except for the fact that all the kiddies on the Internet jack the Requiem for a Dream main theme music and use it in their trailers and thinks no one knows where they got the music from. - gorilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7'Requiem for a Dream' was a very inspiring film that has given me a few ideas for my future video projects. As for this film, it looks like its also going to have a unique storyline and be a very interesting film.
The IMDb page has few good bits of information on it... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414993/ - teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm a big fan of the rise/fall of drug movies:
requiem, spun, drugstore cowboy, trainspotting, the salton sea, etc. (all are a must see) Glad to here he's making another flick. - Blizzardman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In reality, the only reason I watched Requiem for a Dream was from wondering where the incredible theme music came from when I saw the trailer for the Two Towers :).
- lofidan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Maybe the next Lord Of The Rings film can steal the musical score for THIS film as well...
I hated the way the beautifully depressing Requiem For A Dream score was butchered into some 'anthemic' *****. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Lord of the Rings wasn't the only thing to steal the music from Requiem for a Dream, I've heard it used a whole bunch of times, and it is a travesty that such an amazing score would be repurposed into trailers for Lord of the Rings and made for TV movies.
As for the movie, it looks like it'll be a whole lot more mainstream that Aranofsky's previous films, but that doesn't mean it won't be good, seems like a great premise. I'm looking forward to it
And we all know how Rachel Weisz got the part. She's banging the director :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If you like the concept of time-shifted plotlines, I highly recommend Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. Probably one of the best 800+ pagers I've read.
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8good luck, my gf didn't care about or understand Pi, when I thought it was great.
- megatj21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i didn't like pi much, but requiem is a work of art....all high school students should be required to watch it
- Valence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, I realize that there must be quite a few people here who realize this already, but there are a few posts which claim that the trailer tells them "absolutely nothing", or is just a few quick flashes and there's no indication of what the story is about.
Hmmm ... My guess is that a story which begins in 1500 and shows the same characters in multiple eras, and extends over a thousand years, and is titled "The Fountain", *probably* has *something* to do with the Fountain of Youth.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain_of_youth
Yeah, I know, I realize there's *got* to be some people here who realize this already, but I didn't see it anywhere here, and for those of you that claimed the trailer didn't contain much information, well, I think not, I think it was pretty clear ... - republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No you don't! Download VLC or media player classic.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - pennello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Make that
http://movies.apple.com/movies/wb/the_fountain/the_fountain-tsr_h640w.mov - EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Point taken, but that's kind of an "apples vs oranges" comparison there.
Doom I, Doom II and Quake all had John Romero involved. The squels to follow did not. I honestly think it was the combination of John C and John R that made those first three so fantastic - Anyone remember Diakatana?
That said, I hope our director has elected to keep the same talent in the loop that helped make Pi and Requiem so wonderful. - Razerious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's in the movie category. There's a category for movies.
- whizzbang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4looks like its completed!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414993/ - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, I didn't see Requiem for a while after it was released and quite frankly, to me, it was WAY over-rated. But that's just my opinion and I believe I fell victim to letting the word-of-mouth hype actually influence the way I watched it. I was expecting some massively huge defining moment in the history of cinema, but what I got fell far short. Again, just my opinion.
I may wait like 10 years or so and go back and visit the movie again with fresher eyes. I know that some people can disconnect the hype with the actual movie, I just wish I was one of them. But don't let my experience deter you from renting the movie...as it's just that: MY experience. I obviously have a weaker mind. - etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah this was out before Christmas last year - then got pulled because the movie was delayed.
- RamMasterRay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is there a reason you left Scarface out of the list? Even though every urban rapperthug adopted this movie as a validation of criminal lifestyle it's intended message was probably similar to the movies you listed.
- solusdotipse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What a damn good trailor. I'm sure some ad exec got a lot for that.
Intersting concept of mutliple plot lines taking place hundreds of years apart. Can not wait. - justok, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just checked my local theatre. They're only going to show it once per day, at 3.14 (approx.).
- teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I actually enjoyed watching Pi, and it was decent but it left me feeling more confused than after I watched eraserface for the first time :S.
- w00gy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think it just got delayed.
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It was the trailers for LOTR's that copied the music, not the actual films themselves.
Many many many times you'll see trailers with music from other movies because quite frankly, when the trailers are being made, the music is still being worked on and recorded. They just don't have the music to use in teasers and trailers yet. Often times the music is being worked on right down to the final edit print of the movie.
Another often used piece of music for trailers about action movies is from Aliens. - GhostFreeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been waiting for this too long. I am looking forward to Darren's latest.
- Monoboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What Kubrick movie isn't a must see? Even the ones that aren't as exciting (ex: Eyes Wide Shut and 2001: A Space Odyssey) are still very amazing films to watch.
- Migdilio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I saw this teaser trailer about 6 months ago. Either CHUD or Aint It Cool posted a link. Still looks just as interesting half a year later, though! There was an advanced screening here in Los Angeles but I couldn't make it. Damn you, job!
- buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is very old news. The trailer has been out for months and the concept behind it has been known for quite some time. Since the movie kept being pushed back due to problems, Aronofsky released a graphic novel version of the movie.
Also, the main role was originally for Brad Pitt. This is why he was seen with the huge beard several months ago. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mmmm... Rachel Weisz. Gotta love eye candy!
- Guano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I saw it a while ago too.
- sulestis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not sure about the fist fight, he abandoned the film to do TROY...fine by me though, Jackman is a far better actor then Pitt, and is much better at choosing projects.
- monolith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@veter, sorry mystic mojo woo woo crap is still mystic mojo woowoo crap, even dressed up as junk science in a film. Look up 'Intelligent Design' for an example. The movie was just too proud of its 'profound' statement... please... sacred geometry? ugh.
- frontpage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hey, read the book by Hubert Selby Jr. It is the most unique book written in the English language that I have ever read.
No quotation marks
No apostrophes
No "he said / she said"
It's hardly more than flows of thought output byte-by-byte to the English alphabet. I've read it twice, and I've been disturbed by it both times. - solusdotipse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With the way I've been reading these days that sounds like the best 400 page book I'll ever read. I'm always up for a recomendation though. Thanks.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Anyone here seen the machinist? Amazing movie. This one looks like it will be great too.
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WTF do you have against Rachel Weisz? I have seen her in quite a few films including Enemy at the Gate and thought she did just fine. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@whisk3rs:
I am faimilar with electronic music.
To me, the LOTR use is less of a rip off, because it's just as case of employing the song in a new place. It even gets to keep its own name. Zoo York takes it and "builds on it", while removing the song name and artist name put there by the person who did the creative work. And Zoo York doesn't even add much that needed added.
Zoo York is also categorically NOT a bootleg, since it's on a major label album (Bunkka).
Back to electronic music, really, Oakenfold is a DJ. He's a pretty good one when it comes to the whole "setting a mood" thing. But like most DJs, he doesn't seem to be much of a musician.
Honestly, PartyBen (or most anyone on the Best of Bootie 2005 CD) ads more to songs when he incorporates them than Oakenfold did in the case of Zoo York. It's a fine line whether something is a cover, a ripoff or an audio collage. To me, Oakenfold didn't do what was necessary to relabel this as primarily his own work (putting on his own name and own song name).
I was watching the 10th episode of season 6 of Top Gear today. They used "In the Hall of the Mountain King". I'd say it a concindence, execpt you really hear that song everywhere. - n8f8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Highlander meets 2001:A Space Odyssey
- caboosemoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry to be a pedantic *****, but that would be Ayn Rand.
