I had an ice cream headache. - jameshighmore, on 02/04/2008, -1/+47Lady luck was a hooker, and I was fresh out of cash.
One of the best games (and sequels) of all time, and if anyone disagrees they can suck on my dual berettas. - skarps, on 02/04/2008, -2/+36The one thing I like about Max Payne was the story that was told while playing the game. I hope they can capture that element in the movie as well as they did in the game because I'm sure they will get the violence portion right.
I wonder who will play Mona? - NGNR, on 02/04/2008, -1/+34I hope they have good script. One that lives up to the games.
This following quote from Max Payne 2, pure poetry.
"All this time we got the fable of Sleeping Beauty wrong. The prince didn't kiss her to wake her up. No one who slept for a hundred years is likely to wake up. It was the other way round. He kisses her to wake himself up from the nightmare that has brought him there."
I'll never forget it. - angrynorwegian, on 02/04/2008, -0/+26as long as uwe boll isn't involved it has a chance to be good
- LordMaul, on 02/04/2008, -0/+23I hear they're shooting for a PG-13.
Someone hand me hax'd dual grenade launchers so I can descend upon the Hollywood ***** for great justice. - BuddyDoQ, on 02/04/2008, -0/+21You really should pick it up, steam has it for 10 bucks or so. It was more of the same game-play (in a great way), but the story telling was much more bitter and mature. It still had the great lines, and was a bit more polished overall. In the first level there is a place in the children's wing of the hospital that re-tells the first game in crayons; the whole game is ripe with such creative allusions.
- tmattoneill, on 02/04/2008, -0/+13i was watching sin city the other day and it reminded me a lot of max payne. maybe if they go over the top with stylization and get a great script, they could pull it off.
- ubitendo, on 02/04/2008, -0/+12Actually, Max Payne is a homage to Hong Kong action films -- nothing to do with the story.
- acdcfanbill, on 02/04/2008, -0/+12Max Payne was in production long before The Matrix was popular, it drew it's action inspiration from John Woo films like Hard Boiled and The Killer, the same place the Matrix 'copied' it's moves from.
- BuddyDoQ, on 02/04/2008, -1/+13This could be either the best game-to-movie or a stink so rancid and rough that... "Funny as hell, it was the worst thing I could think of."
If nothing else, it'll overtake 300 for over-quoted movie of the internet. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 02/04/2008, -0/+11You sit in the theater, but the movie just never starts.
- kenplaysviola, on 02/04/2008, -0/+10Agreed. Max Payne 2 was much better than the first and the storyline was excellent. And if you're a Linux user, yes, Max Payne 2 works perfectly under WINE.
- dudefather, on 02/04/2008, -0/+10hope they have 'Address Unknown' as a subplot
- jbschwi, on 02/04/2008, -0/+8The Max Payne game series is by far my favorite. Do any of you remember that movie with Vin Diesel called A Man Apart? That movie was a 90% rip off of the Max Payne series. Below is the plot from IMDB:
"Sean Vetter and Demetrius Hicks are members of the DEA who are fighting an ongoing drug war on the California/Mexico border, they are most successful at it because of their edge of growing up on the street and being thugs converted to cops. The DEA busts one of the major players by the name of "Memo" Lucero and imprison him in the United States but then a major player named Diablo then takes over the business and now he is now the major player targeted by Vetter and his team. But when Vetter's wife is killed in a botched hit organized by Diablo, he seeks revenge against those responsible and in the process has to seek help from the imprisoned Lucero in order to catch Diablo. But in the process, Vetter and Hicks have to fight their way up the chain to get to Diablo but it's easier said than done when all Vetter can focus on is revenge... " - Godlike, on 02/04/2008, -0/+7I really liked the story in Max Payne, or at least I liked the way in which it was told. When I first played it, I played it straight through without stopping happening to have only a pack of donuts and some weird orange drink beverage that they don't make anymore... on 3 hours sleep. Interesting!
- chamberlanderic, on 02/04/2008, -0/+7That games was reponsible for me starting to play video games on PC again and spending all my money on graphic cards. Damn You Max Pain !
- LordSkywalker, on 02/04/2008, -0/+7If they were to play up the psychological aspect of the game, with the drugs, pill poppin', hallucinations and crazy stuff like that due to the stress put on Max, it could be good. The story itself was pretty cool, but surely will be trashed just like in Alone In The Dark, Dead Or Alive, etc.
- SeyWat, on 02/04/2008, -1/+7I hope that was sarcasm
- ours, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6With all the drug-related plot the game had, I sure hope it's not PG-13. Damn them if they make another "a cop, on the run, with revenge for his wife in his mind" and drop the whole crazy military black ops drug gone loose in the streets. And lets not forget those nutty nightmare sequences which where genuinely creepy (F.E.A.R., you tried, you failed with you're derivative Japan-horror wannabe act, and you forgot the engrossing story).
- bjs3171, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6same gameplay, way better graphics. good story.
the good thing about Max Payne being made into a movie is the fact that the stories are quite fleshed out in the game, already. - sindex, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6This will be terrible unless Uwe Boll is directing!
- bjs3171, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6i don't think it would be Max Payne without it.
- SeligErasmus, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6Personal favorite from Max Payne 2 -
"There are no choices. Nothing but a straight line. The illusion comes afterwards, when you ask "Why me?" and "What if?". When you look back and see the branches, like a pruned bonsai tree, or forked lightning. If you had done something differently, it wouldn't be you, it would be someone else looking back, asking a different set of questions." - NGNR, on 02/04/2008, -0/+5At the moment it looks like its gonna be Natasha Alam.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0467197/ - norman619, on 02/04/2008, -0/+5Was that bullet time?
- tehnoobifier, on 02/04/2008, -0/+5Good director, kick-ass actor, based on a good game, there is no reason for it not to be good, unless they totally diviate from the game's plotline like the article said
- ubitendo, on 02/04/2008, -0/+5Shawn Ryan, creator of The Shield, is the screenwriter on this so I'm not worried about the story.
- MacDaddyMac530, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5really cuz i think Max Payne came out like in 2001 or something and matrix was in 99 but started filming way back in 97. I dono bout that mayne.
- rz8472, on 02/04/2008, -0/+4A good video game-based movie?
One can hope... - LogicBomB, on 02/04/2008, -0/+4The problem is this is a particularly hard game to get right for the big screen. It requires EXCELLENT writers, a damn good director, the ability to do film noir right and the willingness to say "the drugs, sex and violence required to do it right is not suitable for PG-13"
I think it will be a dismal failure on the big screen because anyone not a fan of the games will just see cop + dead wife = mindless violence. - chubbybubba, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5I enjoyed the video games but I have to say that the name "Max Payne" is easily the cheesiest name in existence.
(and what the hell ever happened to the funky bunch anyway!) - bjs3171, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3i bet the writers of Dexter would be good on this. Both have great narration, and both have a good deal of violence, but with deeper themes playing a crucial role in legitimizing the story.
- foetus, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Are you *crazy*? What about Super Mario, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, House of the Dead, Silent Hill, Bloodrayne, Doom, Citizen Kane (oh, wait... that was Giants:Citizen Kabuto I'm thinking of). ALL CLASSICS! Not a stinker in the bunch!
- SpectralSounds, on 02/04/2008, -8/+11I wonder if the trippy dream sequences are going to be filmed. I haven't played Max Payne in ages.. never got around to playing the second one.
- kurupttek, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3I always thought Cristian Slater Would be Max Payne But that's just me

http://www.gamerevolution.com/oldsite/games/pc/act ... - nexmachina, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Bullet time made the game! It better be in the movie!
- Mr.Gone, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Tetris 2: The Long Block
- ilves7, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3silent hill wasn't that bad... everything else listed, however, was pure crap
- krakkinem, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Here's a reason for it not to be good - it's a video game movie.
- wheezyninja, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Forgot about that line... not one of the best games ever, but a great story
- Blandyman, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2The guy who modeled for Max Payne in either game is not the same guy who does his voice.
The voice is James McCaffrey (hoped I spelled it right) who plays Jimmy, Denis Leary's dead cousin, on the show Rescue Me. He also played the lead for a show called Swift Justice (very short-lived and not a good show) - norman619, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Silent Hill wasn't bad.
- thinsoldier, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2unless he never played the game...or even at least watched excerpts of the best parts of the game
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2I hear she is a real stone fox...
- Blandyman, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Well, I hate to say it (because it's not the same genre) but A Scanner Darkly was filmed in 22 or 23 days. 28 Days Later (I believe) was filmed in 28 actual days.
A lot of great movies (can't think of any action movies RIGHT NOW, but I know they exist) have been made on a short schedule. It just depends on the locations (is it all on a single backlot somewhere in Toronto? How many set pieces? How many coordinated stunts requiring rigs? Dolly/crane shots?)
If the movie takes a traditional action route (squibs, steadicam, light-dolly shots, simplistic lighting and realistic sets [possibly borrowed]) then I can see this movie taking such a short time to complete. - an0nym0uz, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Max Payne was one bad ass game.
- sgtpppr, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Which is incredibly likely.
- peterinjapan, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3My name is Peter Payne (of jlist.com), and when I bought this game the Apple store guy said, "What, are you related to Max Payne." The guy was so funny, I just couldn't stand it.
- cphelps, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3If I thought you were serious I'd flame you, but there's not a chance in hell you can be serious.
Is there? -
