- neonpulse, on 12/29/2007, -1/+70The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rejects movie posters that aren’t suitable for children to view. As the MPAA recently explained, as they rejected a movie’s poster:
"Ads will be seen by all audiences, including children. If the advertising is not suitable for all audiences it will not be approved by the advertising administration."
“Hostel II,” showing an apparently nude woman bound and hanging upsidedown

Googe image search "hostel 2 poster" for one with more nudity that didn't make the cut.

Taxi To The Dark Side
"This poster for “Taxi To The Dark Side,” a documentary about the U.S. government’s use of torture, is what the MPAA is protecting our children’s tender eyes from.
Because of the hood.
But — the MPAA assures us — their standard is reasonable, because if that “Saw IV” poster had had a hood over the severed head, they would have rejected it too."

- smackhero, on 12/29/2007, -3/+19This Film is Not Yet Rated is an excellent documentary that provides a lot of insight into the secretive and hypocritical "ratings" (read: censorship) board. it includes a lot of great interviews with famous film makers, including kevin smith and matt stone, and also provides a very revealing expose on the corruption within the MPAA's ratings committee.
i mean, why is a secretive group of individuals, whose identity are hidden from the public by the MPAA, and who are not required to disclose their method or rubric for handing out ratings, in charge of censoring all films that the public is exposed to? why does the catholic church have its own representative on the board? why doesn't the public get to appoint the members? or shouldn't the ratings process be subject to public oversight at the very least? - veeshy, on 12/29/2007, -9/+20how are people digging this?! the site is down
- tylerjames, on 12/30/2007, -1/+11Wow, that poster was obviously denied for purely political reasons. Although I wouldn't expect any less from such a ***** useless organization.
Would a child even recognize the meaning behind the hood on that guy's head? Doubtful.
But it's pretty ***** easy to figure out a severed, rotting head on a grocery scale.
What idiots. - Llanowar, on 12/29/2007, -1/+10Both page vews and diggs are somewhat irrelevant. A page containing only text would be able to get more views than a page which contains tons of pictures. So in this case 50 diggs might equal 500 diggs on another story with only text.
- FatherG, on 12/29/2007, -2/+9That does NOT work. Google does not cache the images. That kind of mirror is pointless for a page like this.
- dyslexicsUNTIED, on 12/29/2007, -4/+10people, like myself digg sites because they are down. then i have it bookmarked on digg so i can go back to it when the site actually works
- tas08, on 12/30/2007, -0/+6Yay! I was running low on reasons to despise the MPAA!
- mr5150, on 12/30/2007, -1/+6Dem folks at the MPAA must be smoking something 'cause I can't for the life me figure their logic.

- kufu91, on 12/29/2007, -1/+6my god, you're stupid
the only possible reason the hood was denied because it is associated with torture. the double standard is that for movies like hostel or saw, they are allowed to full out show torture in progress - Jiggles1875, on 12/29/2007, -8/+13We ***** know this you moron. But the amount of diggs something has is somewhat related to how many page views it's gotten.

- KMye, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4Great documentary! I encourage anyone who can find it to rent to do so. If you're not able to, you can give it a watch here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-559517494 ... and if you enjoy it or find it valuable, please buy it if you get the chance...these are the kinds of film/art/documentary that need our support.
- ostracize, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4Digg is not a bookmarking service. You are unfairly and artificially inflating the results.

- centerblack, on 12/30/2007, -1/+3I think you're confused.
They approved the hostel and saw posters, there's no reason to post them. They didn't approve the Taxi to the Dark Side poster.
Skin turtle is recommending that people post the "real" TttDS movie poster since the fascists in power will inevitably not rule in their favor and they will be forced to change the movie poster to something better "FOR THE CHILDREN". - cfuse, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2Gee, the organisation that is less popular than AIDS has double standards? Who would have thought ...
- THETEH, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2Because we all know how extremely traumatizing it is for children to see pictures of people wearing hoods. Severed hands and heads in bowls are fine though, because they don't have HOODS.
- Smills, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2Really? I sure wasn't.

- TheBlindGuy, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2Clearly there is something going on here. I mean, from first glance I just thought the poster was of 3 soldiers walking, I didn't even notice the man in the hood.

- daizaru, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1I saw an interesting video last night, This film is not yet rated. Had some really interesting points, some less interesting... still it's about the double standards of the mpaa

- HappyScrappy, on 12/30/2007, -4/+1Ready my statement before you condemn me. And read the MPAA. There are 3 known instances of the MPAA specifically precluding movie posters because of hooded prisoners. One of them is this movie.
It's a clear pattern, not one of a double standard, just a stupid, inflexible standard.
Movies like Hostel and Saw can show torture (just like this one can) but they cannot show hoods in their posters (just like this one cannot). -
