- darkchild82, on 08/10/2008, -0/+28Just reading his bio, I have nothing but admiration for the guy. He's really done some of the best blockbusters & some of the best action movies ever. Terminator 2, True Lies (for its time), Aliens & now Avatar. Just reading about all the techniques he's using... I just can't wait for the first trailer to hit!
Plus it's about goddamn time he's come out with a proper feature film. Can't blame him. After raking in millions with the highest grossing movie of all time, he can afford to do whatever he wants. - BowieX, on 08/10/2008, -10/+27If avatar is even 50% of the original scriptment, this movie will destroy the box office. Think everything you loved about Aliens multiplied by infinity and in 3D. I can't wait.
- rdanays, on 08/10/2008, -0/+15Whatever happened to the Battle Angel anime he was planning on adapting as a movie. I remember him mentioning it in many interviews at around the same time he was planning Avatar.
- thwoom, on 08/10/2008, -1/+10i wonder what direction hes going to take the new fire nation in.
- Embryodead, on 08/10/2008, -0/+9The world needs more sci-fi and Imax movies. Go Get Em` Cameron!
- BowieX, on 08/10/2008, -1/+9I think it's a "mini-meme".
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Given his track record, I highly doubt it'll disappoint..
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7I doubt any movie studio will trouble him over budgets now after Titanic's success

- funkyloki, on 08/10/2008, -3/+10Did that really need to be said three times?
- mCanada, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Kirk had to decline as he was too busy researching bananas by design.
- kansai22, on 08/10/2008, -1/+7From the title I thought this was Avatar: The Last Airbender which will also be a great film.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+6i can't believe the buzz is starting 1.5 years before the movie. having said that, i looook forward to seeing it.

- acliffhang3r, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4What!? 9000??
- KyjL, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4He's going full-tilt on this movie before he hits the Battle Angel movie. And I don't mind.
...Coming from the mouth of a stupendously massive Alita fan. - kevptim, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5Cameron is also responsible for Aquaman with Vincent Chase which was bigger than Spiderman for a while.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4'performance capture production workflow,' 'Facial Performance Replacement,' 'Simulcam' .... I don't know what the hell all that means but I just can't wait to see the end result!

- gadgetuk, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3The original buzz for this was about 7 years ago when the screenplay was doing the rounds. The talk then was that it could never be filmed because it would cost far too much money and Cameron didn't want it to be made as an animation.
I got hold of a copy back then and it was certainly gripping and will make an amazing spectacle. The only potential problem is that it could be a little over-worthy with the very loud environmental angle and the obvious parallels for us "back on Earth". Of course, it could have significantly changed since then but I won't drop in any spoilers anyway ;). - lifeisgoooooood, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3There's much talk about this movie .... it better be good
- gothsquirrel, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3It's a psychological thing. He needs to live up to the expectations of his last film. Titanic was huge. Probably not for the Digg crowd. But now, he can take his time and work to perfect a movie instead of throw out the next film he is given.

- bagboyrebel, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2remember everyone, spamming a comment is hilarious. Doesn't matter how annoying it is, repetition is always funny no matter what.
/sarcasm - GlitchEnzo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2He may make great movies (Aliens, Terminator, and The Abyss), but there is no denying that the guy is a complete ass.
"Following such a brutal production [for The Abyss] – during which, Harris and Mastrantonio clashed with Cameron often – both refused to do press for the film, publicly stating that they would never work with Cameron again." - Darwyn, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2I believe you're referring to a different movie. The movie you're thinking about is going to be called "The Last Airbender" and will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It's supposed to be a trilogy of films; The first film is scheduled to be released in July 2010. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
- funkyloki, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2This is what Kirk is up to these days. Unbelievable.

- stockjones, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2James Cameron is the man. Some of you may not realize the guy is not just a great director, but he is an engineer marvel who has developed a lot of unique appliances/camera's used for film making. The tech in avator will surely amaze. He is shooting for photo realism with this film.
- GlitchEnzo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2There is a trilogy of live-action movies based on Avatar The Last Airbender in development right now. The first one is coming out 2010 if I remember correctly.
To be honest, I'm more looking forward to those than Cameron's Avatar. - thwoom, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2wait i was just kidding, are they really making an airbender movie? hahahah. amazing
- thwoom, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2digg this up
- unknownpoltroon, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2Hes the guy who did the Abyss. He will get my money.
Read the book. It was excellent, and compliments the movie greatly. - ronsta, on 08/11/2008, -1/+2anyone recall the jesus claim he made a year or so ago? it was in and out of news in 5 days:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17349123/ - stockjones, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Its not so much the movie itself but the 3D tech he and his team have developed for it. Cameron has always said he wanted to shoot a photo realistic CGI film. This is apparently the attempt along with 3D. If its Cameron I'm not surprised its stirring a buzz.
- had3l, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1What, what?

- Shakermaker, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1I think I'll wait until I at least see a ***** trailer before I get excited for this.
- ghaltmann, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Fkn Double click.
- Pandalume, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1It would be nice if he could take a few moments out of his busy schedule and release an anamorphic widescreen version of "The Abyss" (or better yet a Blu-Ray).
- Darksoul, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Oh no yeah though I am an Aliens fanatic he is no doubt a douchebag alot of people have said this for years.
- BowieX, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Who is better than Williams?
And "cliché" is not a valid argument; in fact, coming off of Munich, Memoirs of a Geisha, Williams' writing is some of the least clichéd among modern Hollywood composers, not to mention the fact that film music plays the underappreciated role of actually using compositional "clichés" to produce a deliberate audience emotional reaction. - expert01, on 08/11/2008, -0/+160% CG... 40% live... better not turn out like Speed Racer did.
BTW, I was hoping it might be based on the anime. - leno1976, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1While the Dark knight is a great movie it probably wont take Titanics box office crown,I can see this film doing just that though.Last 3d film I went to the ticket price was nearly double that of regular ones, and considering Camerons record with sci-fi I suspect it will be a great film too.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Isn't WETA on this? They didn't seem to be mentioned at all.
