- jurjur, on 06/26/2009, -0/+14If you want to make the world a better place, you gotta look at yourself and then make that change -RIP MJ
- Enderplayer1, on 06/26/2009, -0/+11I wish they would bring this back to Disneyland. 100 times better than that horrid honey I shrunk the audience show.
- jikbag, on 06/26/2009, -0/+7Does anyone remember the "making of" special with Whoopi Goldberg? I had that on VHS and watched it over and over when I was a kid. We are here to change the world. etc..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwyMeWtXKAg - chuckles08, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6wow i actually remember that
- longlukey, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6now where can I watch Moonwalker?
- tofur, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6Capt. Eo used linear polarization for it's 3D...no silly anaglyph red/cyan glasses.
- kbir007, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6HOOTER!!!!
- greenvortex, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5"Captain Eo" used the same 3D technology as "Friday the 13th Part III in 3D" and "Jaws 3D". Polarized clear 3D glasses, two film projectors. Even though today's 3D movies use circularly polarized lenses (to reduce eye strain when the glasses aren't perfectly level), the 3D effect back then was actually superior. RealD 3D uses a single digital projector, so with the polarized glasses on, the movie is half as bright as a normal picture. There is also a much more pronouced flicker effect during horizontal panning with digital 3D. Anyone who saw "Eo" can testify that the 3D effect was better 27 years ago than it is in today's (non-IMAX) theaters.
- itsadamlikewhoa, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5The Michael Jackson version of Star Wars
- crossmr, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5"The King of Pop is dead. Long live the King of Pop!" I'm going to guess the writer doesn't quite understand this sentence.
Do we have a new king of pop? I can't imagine anyone. While the king is used in both sentences its actually referring to two different kings. "The King of pop is dead" refers to MJ, while "Long live the King of pop!" would refer to the new king of pop but I don't see anyone claiming that mantle. - GeorgeStone2, on 06/26/2009, -2/+7Doctors are still trying to find out whats to blame for Michael Jacksons heart attack. So far they have ruled out sunshine, moonlight and the boogie. Some think it could be hereditary originating from the Billy gene.
- MisterFurious, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4Moonwalker, perhaps?
- Balanced, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4I think it was Captain Eo.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4Ok, does anyone remember MJ being in another short movie that was kind of futuristic dystopian type thing? I don't remember if it was a long music video or what, but I've never been able to remember exactly what it was...
Help? - goosegoose, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4***** that little girl
- Numbski, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4He made some pretty lousy choices later in life - and he was ridiculed for that while he was alive.
In death - sadly - we step back and look at the big picture. In his younger years he was a class act and brought much good to the world. His musical talent was in a class unto itself.
We can dwell on the mistakes, the plastic surgery, and his eccentricities (not to mention pedophilia), or we can choose to dwell on the good. I've personally struggled with the reality of physical death for many months now, and the only constructive way to deal with it is to dwell on the good. There will be plenty of time to comment on the bad and the ugly later. - Elranzer, on 06/26/2009, -1/+5For those not in the know...
Captain EO was a 3D film shown at the Journey to Imagination pavilion at Epcot Center in Walt Disney World, and later Disneyland and Euro Disney. It was directed by Francis Ford Copalla, written and produced by George Lucas and composed by James Horner. It also co-starred Angelica Houston. The song "Another Part of Me" was originally from this movie, before it was included in the 1987 album Bad. The movie's main song "Change the World" was never released in an album but a revised version made it into the MJ: Ultimate Collection box set on the "rarities" disc.
Shortly after the first Michael Jackson trial, Disney conjured up a 3D movie to replace Captain EO with. They came up with Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. The elements in this movie (mainly Eric Idle's character) lead to them completely rehaul Journey to Imagination in the likeness of the movie, and most people felt it was a definite downgrade to this day.
Captain EO was never officially released on DVD anywhere, 3D or otherwise. The movie is permanently only available in bootleg recordings. I think maybe once MTV aired it on TV, but not in 3D (and before DVD recording was possible).
Disney currently has it in their "vault" with no plans of ever releasing it, along with Song of the South and the hundreds of TV shows they refuse to release in DVD season box sets in favor of expensive 4-episode compilation releases. - specialknfnd, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3I'm pretty sure the glasses weren't red and blue
- Skalizar, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3So all that music he did with the Jackson 5 where he was like 10? or so, and everything else leading up to Thriller is worthless?
As for the other stuff, how could anyone grow up normal in the environment he was raised in? - Dr3w, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3They need to re-release this in 3D
- edealeasy, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Goodbye Michael :(
- GreatSunJester, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2It was, saw it.
- robertlucas0327, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2yeah moonwalker... it wasnt all that short though
- funkytaco, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2The perfect way to watch Captain EO is:
* in 3D
* in the 1980's - bigdnl, on 06/26/2009, -2/+4Never excepted it to end like that. RIP.
- warplayer, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2I still remember reaching out to grab onto that little flying fur ball. And when that creepy lady came out and clinked her nails together at you... oh man that freaked me out everytime!
- ahwang, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2this is amazing!!! now i need to find some red/cyan glasses somewhere...
- dafragsta, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2I was thinking the same thing. The reason they say that is because the British monarchy transfers power immediately and instantaneously without ceremony and the implication is that nothing would break the chain of power.
- lcworld, on 06/26/2009, -1/+3I love and miss the 80s. From 'Off The Wall' (my very first cassette purchase) to going to Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., MJ is such a big part of the era around the world.
MJ is the most electrifying vocalist, dancer, songwriter composer that ever lived! - inactive, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2poor MJ. he's been looking pale for while.
- morphinapg, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2When are people going to start figuring out how to upload >10 min videos to youtube as one part? I've been able to for years now. I actually have an entire full length film on there (that I filmed of course) as one part.
- PeanutCheeseBar, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Never except anything.
- kingofinternet, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2never realized how similar the borg are to the enemies in captain eo.
- ilykdp, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2I actually emailed Disney years ago asking if they would consider selling a video or dvd of this, but they said it was unlikely. The best I could find from the internet was an audio track of the whole thing.
Thanks Digg, for providing it...
faster than StumbleUpon anyway - Charlotte_Web, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Whatever it was, he had it Bad.
- regulan, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1That sums up my thoughts perfectly. I just don't get MJ.
- john2kx, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1Yeah.. it's kind of unwatchable today. :\
- longlukey, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1i have it on laserdisc too!!! but we sold our laserdisc player! it was seriously one of my favorite things to watch as a kid. Michael Jackson = Original (and better) transformer.

. - robbiedo, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1I went to the 72 hour Captain Eo Grand Opening back in 1986 and never wore my Captain Eo T-Shirt. What a party!
- wizzroom, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1I was fortunate to see Captain EO at Disneyland as a kid. A real treasure of the past.
- vonbroner, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1I absolutely agree with you.
- GeorgeStone2, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Well he sure as hell didn't beat it.
- ahwang, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1the beginning of this makes me want to pick up a phone and yell: ACTION STATIONS ACTION STATIONS. SET CONDITION ONE THROUGHOUT THE SHIP.
because its awesome just like bsg! - inkubusfan, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1buried you for not giving credit to Off The Wall and Bad. Both amazing. I feel sorry for you.
- capstinence, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Wow, that totally brought back childhood memories of many a family vacation to Disneyland.
Damn I loved that movie. -
