- Mogwaih, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Don't know if it is better or worse. Time will tell.
- arapro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33I agree, it seems more web 2.0 ... for example the voting system is digg like .... and also seems to be a bit faster ??!?!?!?!?! anyone ?
- plugues, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34I found it terrible. Besides being pointless in terms of innovation, there are a lot of empy spaces, and some weird blank columns at the left of credits. It's incredibly unpleasing, aesthetically.
- andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Why the heck is the cast list centered?
I don't know if I like the new design or not, I guess I'll have to get used to it. - Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Guess what? You can use the old design:
http://former.imdb.com/title/tt0312843/ - goldfenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Ok, I don't know what others are seeing, but either the new site design is really bad or Adblock is now screwing up the layout.
- realpolitik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18The buttons at the top are enormous and butt-ugly. And out of all of them, only the message board button is actually useful.
In fact, all the content over-the-fold looks like *****. The ratings bar and the banner ad seem randomly placed. The line-spacing of all the surrounding text is pretty distracting.
The credited cast is indented too far, the Additional Details were better when they were condensed, and the two lines below the message board preview makes it seem like the message board continues farther down the page than it actually does.
I'm not saying IMDb's design was great before (far from it). A change was definitely in order, but what they ended up doing looks terrible. - quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Why couldn't you just link it to the homepage?
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I dunno guys, I preferred the IMDB site search being close to the generic web search on the page. I also don't like that it's somewhere visible instead of in small point font on the left nav frame.
The lack of ugly background colours on so much text is also a huge blow.
/sarcasm
Wayyyy better imdb. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Urgh. Prefer the old one. The lack of definition/borders between different areas makes it appear cluttered. The tabs at the top are mostly pointless and far, far too big, the text on the left sidebar bar is too small.
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Or to something helpful, like
http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?redesignfaq - Goldspink, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13An update to the name and title pages was a long time coming. This is a big improvement.
- RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I don't care what it looks like. I just wish it would quit asking me to log in every third time I click a link.
- kshitijb, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18well aesthetically i find the new one better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ads? What Ads?
- robshoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And yet it's still ugly as hell... god IMDB, get some decent designers so your site doesn't look so... fan-made.
- sldSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They still have the old boards though... If anything, I'd say those need an update.
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yet... it's login-able and comment-able... The title said "IMDB Interface Changes" and that's what it is. What more do you want?
Anyways, I noticed the new interface already, as I visit IMDB almost every day. - Caleb83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know if you'll ever read this, but you can change that in your profile settings.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the voting system is the most useful feature of it especially if you look at the individual ratings graph (e.g. some may have disproportionally many hate-votes of 1 and be partly ignored). by having it without numbers, only by stars in a row i fear it may become more unreliable.
i start to think if something wikipedia-like should replace imdb ratings. it's a way too useful resource to be controlled by a corporation. it may seize to exist tomorrow. - RalphDibny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Suicide Club!!!!!!! Mail Me, if i don't hear from you i will die!!!!
- Sparhawk2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really like the shortcuts to each decade on the actors page.
The rest will take some getting used to though. I still try to click on the left of the page to do my searches... - bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The worst aspects was the "my movies" section where you could list all the movies you had. Horrible interface.
Also was the "lost password" scheme they have where they change the password instead of just emailing it to you. Again, horrible scheme where all other websites got it right. As for why about 60% of all the posts in the forums are "deleted by an administrator"?? You got me.
Overall, I hate the new design. It looks messy. - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Hm. Initially, I don't care for it too much. But neither did I care for the new Digg look when it was first released, though now I love it. I'm sure this will be the case as well.
- delusional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To me, it looks as if its been designed exclusively for an 800x600 screensize.. with little thought to its scalability across larger desktops. At 800x600, The Cast list is more or less centred, and the rating stars dont seem randomly flung to the far edge of the screen.
I turned off adblock to see if it was messing with the page layout - Not really.. Although it does bump the ratings stars further left buy placing a giant square ad in its place. - japroach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2DURRRR
Because the homepage didn't change. - matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At least they've ditched Time Roman!
- hugh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the redesign, but can't they go all the way and redesign the whole site? It's kinda annoying to have sections of the site looking good and modern, and the rest looking like it's still 1999...
- RavenBladeX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Uhhh... yea it's an INTERFACE change, not an INFORMATION change.
- pingsmoth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have seen Suicide Club, and it is pretty messed up, much in the way that the new interface is not.
- scooch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Arial or Helvetica if you're on a mac
- mattUSA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Screwing up? I prefer the term "disinfecting."
- scooch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What i really would like to see is an API i can play around with! Come on amazon!
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like it. I especially love the actor pages. It's so much cleaner! I think it has a lot to do with using a san-serif font. It just looks nice!
- FriendlyOtter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't believe they actually made it look more cluttered than it used to be. The older one, while outdated, actually had a decent hierarchy design. The new one, with it's chaos of different fonts, font sizes, font cases, and font colors, is a seriously bad design. Tons of classic web design errors. There's more to upgrading your site than just making it faster and changing fonts. Give me balanced. Give me clean.
- pmhn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It was about time. I don't see big changes though. Could still be much more organized. They probably didn't have the guts to change it too much because "people would get scared and stop visiting."
- swgc5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It sucks
- guise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whoever did the redesign needs to reconsider their career.
Inconsistent fonts, font sizes, alignment, colours and poorly placed ads - zenubio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Much cleaner interface, could still be a lot better. The ads are pretty intrusive.
- schurkenstadt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If they make the fonts any smaller I will earn a fortune selling my screen magnifiers.
- krunk4ever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't like how the user ratings are no longer on the top page. The main thing I check when I goto IMDb is either the cast or the user ratings. now the user rating is hidden off in a secondary page. I can deal with user comments on a separate page, but the user rating score is just 1 line.
//krunk (^_^x) - Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's on the same page, but way on the right. And yeah, I don't like how it's shifted to the right instead of right under the title.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would like to note that the search results page is not very Web 2.0 at all.
- Snowcone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't tell a difference and this story links to some whack looking foreign film. A clever ploy to market that movie methinks?
- onidraky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dugg because IMDB is one of the most useful sites there is, plus you linked to my favorite movie. I'll have to look around the site more when I get home, though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Web 2.0 Movie Database (W2MDb) mmmm....
- SchnuggleMe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Suicide Club is probably not a movie I should have seen when I was 14. As for the new interface... I think it needs borders to separate different sections.
- SeafoodWatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1not interesting
- AnotherCanadian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Excellent. IMDB has always felt like a site from 1998. Now if they could only get rid of that god aweful yellow thats everywhere
