Cant wait though i am a bit disappointed about Yates directing again.- johnvm, on 03/13/2008, -13/+16"How can we milk every last dollar outta harry potter? Make 2 films per book of course!"
- theaceoffire, on 03/13/2008, -2/+9Animated TV series?
- TheSabre, on 03/13/2008, -5/+12 films per book? What?
- wkpower, on 03/13/2008, -1/+3please yates do not mess this up please.
- musicbear, on 03/13/2008, -2/+2So either the films are not long enough to do the books justice, or the making of two films for the crucial climax of the series is money grubbing. Could we please choose so I know which side to be on?
- WaltDismal, on 03/13/2008, -3/+1What a mistake it'll be bringing that idiot Yates back to direct. What a drone. Treatment of whole Sirius's house plotline was awful, and then chopping out plot about infiltration of the Ministry weakened the continuing plotline and motivations. Steady stream of nasty, too, with too little sweet or nice in it. As for the last book's problems and unevenness, Yates' style will make it worse. Holiday disappointment coming. And spread across two films?
- TheSabre, on 03/13/2008, -0/+5I don't blame Order of the Phoenix too much on Yates. Yes, it could have been better. But whose decision was it to make a huge book into a 2 hour movie? If he was told it had to be cut for time, then he had no choice but to skim things down and cut stuff out. No one really knows what happens behind closed doors at Warner Bros. His style is much more "cartoony" than say, Alfonso CuarĂ³n's. Hopefully, he'll take the fans' criticism to heart. Let's wait an see how he does with HBP, which is easily translatable from book to movie.
- sandstar08, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2i agree with TheSabre... lets give him another chance before we show our universal fandom disapproval. Ootp would have been difficult for anyone, much less someone whose style has much more experience in light hearted pieces. If HBP sucks, then we should do whatever we can to change the director
but lets hold off on the pitchforks just yet

- ScottMan001, on 03/13/2008, -9/+31This is brilliant. I totally respect them for wanting to keep as much intact as possible.
- drlha, on 03/13/2008, -1/+24...and conveniently making as much money as possible in the process.
- CH3CH2OH, on 03/13/2008, -5/+1My theory is that they won't finish a movie with Dumbledore's death because market research is negative. Remember The Golden Compass? The best part of the book (the ending) was cut from the film because it was too depressing.
- drlha, on 03/13/2008, -0/+9They cut off the ending from The Golden Compass because the filmakers/producers were ***** idiots. A twist ending to a movie makes people want to come back and watch the sequel. Ending the Golden Compass the way they did basically completely ruined the movie, although it was pretty mangled to start with.

- CatalystGhost, on 03/13/2008, -4/+4Yeah, I can't wait to see the total ***** that was that book be made into not one but TWO movies. Awesome!

- icenineiv, on 03/13/2008, -5/+45Obviously this benefits them because they get to milk the franchise one extra time. But I'm not complaining, they may actually do one of the books justice.
- add1802, on 03/13/2008, -0/+4read the quotes though, the producers are very adamant about wanting to preserve the story, not just earn more in the box office. Although doubling profit probably was not a hard decision....
- icenineiv, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Well, that's the writers and creative staff saying that but I'm sure WB wouldn't care to listen to them if they weren't going to turn huge profits out of it.

- clearlyhere, on 03/13/2008, -1/+14I do think that it will make the most even movie. Harry Potter is either a big rush throwing some details that are never fully fleshed out, except in your own mind, or a shade of the book. Having two movies will allow the story to be really told. If they do it right, they could be the best of all the Harry Potter movies.
- trevomanut, on 03/13/2008, -6/+2The movies about Harry Potter and The Deadly Hallows will be truly unique and fantastic.
Although there won't be any new HP books the Harry Potter crush won't die any time soon.- munawarali2, on 03/13/2008, -2/+0There's talk about a new book already. I read it a little while ago, but can't find the link anymore
- bekboo, on 03/13/2008, -4/+1I hope Yates doesn't chop out too many essential storylines this time. Make it real WB!!
- chokeaduck, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Isn't that why they made it into two films in the first place, aside from the $?
- Dralite, on 03/13/2008, -2/+12Let me first say that making 2 movies will make the ending twice as good. Though you can't change the past, i wish they would have done that with book 4 & 5, books that REALLY needed at least 3 1/2 hours and shouldn't have been changed like it was. but they do what they want...
- goldenhearted, on 03/13/2008, -5/+61More Emma Watson, plz.

- theNazz, on 03/13/2008, -3/+7The time to have movies stretched out should have been in the middle of the series... stretching the last book into 2 movies is nothing more than a chance to sell two more movies instead of one. They can't bring the movies in line with the books at this point so this is for commercialism.
- jeremyduffy, on 03/13/2008, -0/+14Not necissarily. They might have wanted to stretch others as well, but not had the opportunity. A 20 year old can pass for a 17 year old, but a 17 year old doesn't pass well for a 14 year old. They have to make these movies as fast as possible while their cast is in the right range. Look at that freaking giant Neville for pity's sake. If they don't finish the series soon, he's not going to fit in the frame!
- feebie, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1That's a good point.
- Hoogs, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1If you've read the last book, you'd know that one movie wouldn't do it justice. You simply can't leave anything out like you could with the previous ones and still make it work.

- dyranios2, on 03/13/2008, -6/+1Someones making a little lord of the rings delusion about them..... lol they must really want an oscar.
- patrickloggins, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1I guess this satisfies both the readers' want to have more of the books in the movies AND the fact that they're going to profit SO much from this. They're shooting simultaneously - that saves so much for them.
- whatthefu, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2This is a pretty huge cash cow idea for the movie studio.
- icegoddess13, on 03/13/2008, -6/+1HP7 is great, but why are we getting all hyped up about it now when HP6 isn't even out yet?
- TheSabre, on 03/13/2008, -0/+7Because HP6 is just about finished shooting. There's nothing left to hype about HP6 from a pre-production/scripting standpoint. HP7, however, is being written into a movie script *now*.
- feebie, on 03/13/2008, -2/+22GOOD. I am of the opinion that all HP movies starting from #3 should have been filmed in two parts. There is just so much missing from the story, things that I thought were pretty important to the integrity of the plot in the books. The movies are so watered down and it really doesn't help when it comes to explaining just how horrible Voldemort (and even Delores Umbridge)is, and how troubled Harry (and even Ron) becomes. There are some really serious/scary undertones in the story that someone who hasn't read the books just wouldn't get from the movies. There is also a lot of commentary about how media skews stories for ratings, and how the government skews political news in their favour in the books, which is completely topical in today's world.
- darlyn, on 03/13/2008, -1/+2I wholly agree with you that the previous films have been too watered down. After Goblet of Fire was released, I was completely deterred from watching any future HP movies. I am a formal die-hard fan of the books, but the GoF was just terrible (in terms of plot-accuracy.) I've yet too see the Order of the Pheonix, but fear it will be a waste of my time.
- Buzzbean, on 03/13/2008, -0/+4They took so much our of OotP I swear only 25% of the storyline of the book is left. That was the first movie where I read the book first and was the first that I was hugely disappointed in. But Tonks is HOT!
- warplayer, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3You just pretty much explained every single big-screen adaptation of a book ever made. Just because it is the harry potter movie based on the harry potter book makes this no different.
- feebie, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Well, my personal problem with it is the fact that so many people who haven't read the books only go by what they know from the movies. And from that, they probably think it's just another stupid kid's story with magic in it. And because of that, it's hard for those people to take me seriously when I say that the books are actually pretty damn good.
- icenineiv, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Phoenix could have used another half an hour, but seriously a 2 part Goblet? I hated the Goblet movie and something tells me another half of it wasn't going to help that out. Then it would have been 4 hours of terrible acting and directing but now with a bunch of subplots running all over the place, I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than sit through that. It makes sense for DH because it's got a ton of action set pieces with very little in the way of subplots. It's the most straight forward and linear of the books. If you want literal, read the books and be happy with them.

- jmpeagle, on 03/13/2008, -5/+1how old are the actors going to be by the time th last film is done?
- styler5, on 03/13/2008, -1/+7Answer: Emma Watson will be of legal age in April.
- jmpeagle, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2i was thinking they might start being in their 30s by the time the last one comes out.
- darlyn, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1You still won't have the slightest chance with her.

- logan074, on 03/14/2008, -1/+0And yet you took time away from the couch in your parents basement to comment on the story. You sir are a brave soul.
- tibbon, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1I support the idea, at the same time (with this and the Hobbit being two films) does anyone hear... double the money?
If they were to release it as a REALLY long film they'd do horrible in the box office due to half the number of slots to sell for tickets
(yes I am aware of the higher costs of shooting, but they will still have a higher margin than normal)- warplayer, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1This is sort of on the coattails of the double hobbit movie announcement...I had completely forgotten about that. Good call.
- dannybull, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Any news on the composer? Hopefully they will overrule Yates and bring in someone other than his pal Hooper. Last soundtrack was too generic.
- Hoogs, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3They should bring back John Williams for the last one (two).
- diggSJaustin, on 03/13/2008, -4/+20So five hours of camping instead of two and a half?
- SLYK, on 03/13/2008, -0/+11Haha. Were you alluding to the book, or waiting in line?

- rupprupp29, on 03/13/2008, -3/+5Allow me to translate this article:
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ - kjartan, on 03/13/2008, -3/+4Well, there goes all hope of Alfonso Cuaron doing another HP movie. :( The third movie is the only one that has any original style to it. He also really brought the personality of the characters out. Chris Columbus made movies for children while David Yates could easily be replaced by any hack and no one would know the difference.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 03/13/2008, -2/+3Who cares about the style of the third? They butchered the plot. I would be ***** if they brought that director back.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 03/13/2008, -1/+1Let me rephrase that. I really liked the style choices of the third movie, but I wouldn't trade away the plot for that. The third movie had the worst plot of the movies so far in my opinion.
- unclemeat, on 03/13/2008, -1/+6The third film was the only film so far that could even be considered good as a film. If you want the film to be the book, why not just read the book?
- Lazydriver, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2True, true!
- tonich03, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Why such a time gap between them!(I know, no need for you to explain me). I would so pay double-price to watch both at the same time. Sweet!!
- airburst, on 03/13/2008, -5/+1Ok kids, your juice break is over. Back to class.
- MMarquit, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1It's a win-win. Fans get a (hopefully) better representation of the book, and the studio makes more money. I'm excited by this because, quite frankly, since I finished the book I've been wondering how to cram HP 7 into a movie no longer than two hours. And I wish that they'd done it with at least HP 6. I'm almost worried about how it's going to turn out.
- all_about_the_D, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2i was willing to sit in the theatre for like 4 to 5 hours to see the 7th book properly done...guess that's totally gonna happen, regardless of the fact that it'll be in two separate parts. Though I would've liked to see Alfonso Cuaron get a shot at another Potter flick..
- CH3CH2OH, on 03/13/2008, -2/+1I wonder if they'll pull a "The Golden Compass" on us and cut out Snape killing Dumbledore from the sixth movie and tack it on to the seventh. Now that I think about it, that's probably the reason why; they don't want to end on a down note.
- feenxfire, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1I don't think J. K. Rowling would stand for that.
- Worldchrisis, on 03/13/2008, -3/+4I don't know if I'm going to be able to make myself pay to see Hermione and the Really ***** Camping Trip.
- WaltDismal, on 03/13/2008, -0/+6One way they maybe could improve the endless camping trip is by using a lot of flashbacks, and there maybe they could fill in the plot holes of the previous movies.
- Hoogs, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Someone contact Yates with this idea.
- WaltDismal, on 03/13/2008, -0/+6One way they maybe could improve the endless camping trip is by using a lot of flashbacks, and there maybe they could fill in the plot holes of the previous movies.
- johnso68, on 03/13/2008, -2/+2HP 7? Why does everything have to be reduced to abbreviations? Do you not have the 10 seconds it would take to write out Harry Potter?
- gtapro92, on 03/13/2008, -1/+1I didnt kno english teachers went on digg
- norman619, on 03/13/2008, -1/+2Hmmm.... keep in mind this is Digg.
When most people on here see HP what is the first thing that comes to mind? It sure as hell wasn't Harry Potter.
- norman619, on 03/13/2008, -1/+2Hmmm.... keep in mind this is Digg.
- norman619, on 03/13/2008, -0/+4I seriously thought this was going to be an odd article about some movie about HP computers.
- gtapro92, on 03/13/2008, -1/+1I didnt kno english teachers went on digg
- jfg84, on 03/13/2008, -3/+0It better be released as one dvd. I don't like this at all, I'm not spending 40-50 dollars for my wife and I to watch it at the theater so it will be the first Harry Potter that I wait for it to come to dvd.
- mult1task, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Good, more room for everyone else.
- warplayer, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I think by 2011 when the last one comes out ticket prices will be about 40-50 a pop, so don't worry, i'm sure you will spend much more.
- norman619, on 03/13/2008, -2/+1Since it's the end they are trying to milk it for all it's worth.
- jedimasta, on 03/13/2008, -2/+1January called, it wants its 'breaking news' back: http://media-geeks.com/articles/1183/Potter_7_to_b ...
- mjparker75, on 03/13/2008, -1/+1Get ready for a lot of people who haven't read the books to be ***** off at a LotR I type ending. I can't figure out where they'll split it. I'm all for a Two Towers type final battle though. That should be the whole second movie IMO.
- jordanmerle, on 03/13/2008, -1/+2It will be just like Kill Bill except replace everything cool with magic.
- Saea, on 03/13/2008, -3/+1So, two movies of camping in the forest...
- EnderMB, on 03/13/2008, -1/+2It would've been a great idea if both movies were to be released within a month of each other, but this just screams double money. To be honest it's a very poor move to make and will do the series little justice. I would prefer to sit through one large film than wait for two to finish a story I already know. LOTR accomplished this tastefully, but the movies were built entirely around this, unlike Harry Potter.
To be honest I cannot see all stars wanting to stick through ANOTHER movie deal. If they're going to do this then I hope Daniel Radcliffe and the others demand a lot of money for it.- add1802, on 03/14/2008, -0/+0if you read the article, they will both be shot at the same times (like all 3 LOTR) so the stars really won't feel any different than if they were filming a really long movie
- logan074, on 03/14/2008, -0/+0Also not many audience members want to sit through a very long movie.
- Silince, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Am I the only one who see this as a money grab by WB? If any of the books had enough content for two films it was Goblet of Fire. The final book could easily be condensed into the length of the others (around two and a half hours), most of it is just Harry and Hermione hiding in the woods. The article even makes it sound like it could just be 2 separate one and half hour films. Why not just release one 3 hour film? Simple answer: Box office ticket and DVD sales.
WB is seeing the end of their cash cow and are worried. Simple as that. No other fantasy series can even come close to the money HP has made WB.
I am glad to see Yates returning, however. OOTP was brilliant. - xstarsprinklesx, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1PLEASE let them cut the epilogue.
- peterinjapan, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1LAME. I was bummed when they forced The Two Towers, a really thin frigging book, into a full length 4 hour production, and I'm just as bummed to this news. I am currently reading the book for the 2nd time, and yes, the long, meandering "Magical Camping" crap is just not engaging. The ending of the first movie's going to be about as exciting as the end of Fellowship of the Ring, i.e. not. Please, someone give me a Time Turner so I can go back and undo this stupid idea.
