Great Digg!- KrocCamen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7You mean like how environmental activists made the adverts for Chevy? http://standblog.org/blog/2006/04/08/93114743-redefining-the-notion-of-successful-marketing
- GeekyGirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17"What's better than having an Ad agency? Letting your target audience make your ads for you!"
This is one of the best elements of open source culture. Give the community the freedom to innovate and build on the ideas of others. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The "Double-Click Relief" video is the best thus far. The surfer video took a while to load, and it wasn't worth it (think those old Apple "testimonial" commercials gone bad). "Drama Queen" paled in comparison.
I just love the way "Relief" made fun of those stupid medicine commercials "try this" and "Firefox works gently to soothe..."
Digg for that video. - TristanTee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I know very smart idea
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -25/+7The 3 ads they have up now aren't very exciting. I thought the Surfboard one sucked - until I saw the other ones... by comparison it was a masterpiece.
I guess this means the contest is still "wide open" for anyone with creativity to come up with a cool ad.- KrocCamen, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3In three days!? Good luck to them
- Erroneus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Read the blogg, more are beeing added in the next days.
I agree the surfboard wasn't worth the time, but the two others were great. - KrocCamen, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2"blogg"
*sigh*
- KrocCamen, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Inaccurate, you can see three of the ads. The rest are coming later
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Well technically, it's not inaccurate since the 3 ads are all the ads.
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Okay well I originally meant "all the videos" that were available at the time; plase bury this whole argument for spams sake.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9While I like the commercials, I kind of expected something different from the FF community. I don't know, something funnier and more entertaining. More creative.
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I agree; it would have been better if they included the videos from http://funnyfox.org/
- thechitowncubs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Wait, people only have 3 days to submit? Didn't the site just start?
And ya, all of those ads aren't that good. The surfboard one and cubicle crap one just didn't make sense at first to me. And then I thought how people that weren't as compter literate as me would take it.
So ya, those 3 suck. - rosewarnsk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Do know what's that for. Seems not so many info there. Poor marketing.
- Evdawg, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3I am also very disappointed. I had a great idea for this, but didn't really have the time nor equipment to film or product it. I was hoping that these would be really good, but from the three shown so far, i don't have a good feeling about this anymore :(
- NinjaNoodles, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Haha! This is some good stuff, I love the drama queen fat guy MS IE analogy. I wonder if we'll start seeing these mirrored on You Tube?
- buss, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Frankly, the fat guy represents firefox more than IE. It made me think of the common occurrence of firefox consuming hundreds of megabytes of ram. I say that as a loving member of the firefox community, of course.
- xaviers, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3I submitted this story before this person. But who really cares about duplicates.!
- natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Firefox flicks started months ago, the presentational site just opened and the flicks are just now being revealed. If I remember correctly, there will be three added per day.
- felz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6there is a rumored IE7 ad online that is better than those. why do browsers need ads? I hate commercials.
- nesquik, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Searching through google for IE7 ads, here is one that I found:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5590190566057345524&q=ie7 - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@nesquik
Thanks for the link. I always wondered what happened to Danny Bonaduce.
Interestingly accurate comparison between Firefox and IE. Both ads had the same message but the IE ad took three times as long!
- nesquik, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Searching through google for IE7 ads, here is one that I found:
- mikesty, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7ROFL, I got halfway through the jogging one and FireFox crashed. I like them though :)
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"How long does the contest last?
December 21, 2005 through April 14, 2006." - Mcaruso, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6There have been 100 submissions, according to Blake Ross. So no, this definitely isn't the end of the line.
- duder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16"1 out of 10 IT professionals prefer firefox..." "1 out of 10????" " you can't trust the other 9".
now that's funny. anyways, good to see the ads finally making it out. definetly very good picture quality.
peace,
duder- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I got a good laugh out of that.
- KrocCamen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31 out of 4 or 1 out of 3 in some countries ^_^
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2What's funny about that is - it's true.
N00bish "IT" guys. Stuck in the 90's.
"Deeerrr.. Norton is the best!"
GG~ video's
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I have to admit I wasn't at all impressed with any of these, however, I'm sure something a little further down the line will be better.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2What a ***** voting system, they could have stolen something better from anywhere else...
I almost hate the Geek Community and want to just ***** quit this crap fully.
Better up the deadline if you don't want to be nuked. - asadotzler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"You can now see all of the ads that were made as part of Spread Firefox's New Project." is wrong. We've actually got more than 125 submissions. We'll be rolling them out, several a day for the next few weeks before we announce the top entries.
- Asa - MicroBerto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Do those pages work for anyone using Firefox in Linux? I have got to believe that my plugin finder is broken because there's no way they could have made it not work on their own browser!!
- theantidote, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Same problem. It's a quicktime video so does anyone know of a good QT player for Linux?
- Standaman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Every time I watch the videos on Windows, the Quality Feedback agent comes up.
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Download the videos, Convert them
http://www.erightsoft.com/Sx2P1.html
and play it. - darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Same with me, does anybody know how to fix this? It's things like these that provoke me to go back to windows. Developers need to realize that things like media compatability should come before flashy graphics.
- white, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3to play quicktime videos on linux try either the VLC player or mplayer.
- dognose, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5For a pro firefox site, I'm surprised they didn't use a more cross platform video interface. Come on! YouTube and Google video have both done this!
No digg cause they don't play on linux. It's up to the site to convert them. - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1vlc
- wolfzero, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4So...one of them totally says that Firefox increases your chances of 'web drama'...maybe that ad is for MySpace?
- zeeneo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2did they expect more people to submit? :P
- logic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Uhhhh...they received over 100. These are just the first three.
- scarolan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I opened this site in Firefox and tried to view the 'surfer' video and after hanging there for about 20 seconds crashed my browser. Lame.
- mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Couldn't open in firefox, ironically. Played fine in IE.
(Yes, I've got the plugins installed correctly.)- pozzoe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4If you DID have your plugins correctly installed you would be able to play the videos just fine. I did.
- Sturmur, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I actually never heard of this, I could have submitted a movie. Damnit.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Wow.. found this from a link in their blog to another person who created a 3d animation for it..
http://sheep.handturkeystudios.com/files/firefox_logo_snd_tagless.mpeg4.mov
http://sheep.handturkeystudios.com/artwork/modeling-a-firefox/ - MrDiaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What a level of video editing here. It has been a long time now that I don't see ads that I really enjoy watching. This ones are indeed the exception to that.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I saw all these back in the first testing period of the site. About a week or so ago.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2http://www.firefoxflicks.com/backstage/wp-content/uploads/2006/04/anim_screen1.png
Anyone know what animation program this is?- clueless, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2it's seems like blender...
yep, i'm pretty sure it's blender - thechitowncubs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2looks like blender
clueless wins - logic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Yeah, that's blender.
http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Home.2.0.html - Metal_Guru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yep, looks like there is going to be several Blender created ads (cool!).
Another Blender post: http://www.firefoxflicks.com/backstage/2006/03/26/guest-post-from-paintful-productions-breaking-into-3d/
- clueless, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2it's seems like blender...
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Thanks for this digg. Been waiting to see what people have been coming up with for a while now. I personally like the "Medic!" one the best.
- koko775, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Heh. The surfing one was clever. Tried to be like Apple. It could've been done better. The drama queen one sucked -- "this is your brain on drugs" only works for...uh...drugs. The other one was awesome
- mlipovsky, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3does anyone think that any of these will become actual commercials on tv? that would be awesome.
- tratch, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Here's the funny thing: In Firefox the images are either flickering really badly (play fine in fullscreen mode) or not loading at all. When I use IE it works like a charm. And I've got a beefy system with a great connection here at home. It's odd.
- Metal_Guru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Damn... Revver hosted videos are down already by digg. How can that be?
A bit early to start hyping this as it's only the first test batch. I'm sure we'll see better quality ones soon. - InvisibleMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Someone should do a commercial that focuses on the how Firefox renders web pages. The Gecko engine is by far the best. Of course don't talk about WC3 or CSS because if you know about those then chances are you already use either Firefox or Opera. But a commercial that highlights how Firefox makes the web look nice again. I think Firefox does a better job then everyone at rendering web pages (even better than Opera). Its like putting on glasses for the first time. Or like Johnny Nash's song I can see clearly now the IE is gone :)
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I liked the surfing one the best... Looking forward to seeing more.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2im going to submit mine later
- smokester, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Dugg for:
"1 out of ten?"
"...You can't trust the other nine."
Brilliant - Rajio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Any other post that said 'hey click here to look at a bunch of ads' would get declared spam unless it was firefox or apple. wtf. this is spam too.
- 1337freek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2wait a second, i was watching those vids with an up to date version of firefox on my mac and one of the videos i watched came out wierd - double picture - though the ones i saw were pretty good
- markos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"You can now see all of the ads that were made as part of Spread Firefox's New Project."
Yeah all three of them. - MaxWebster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0HAHAHA FF can't even play its on adds correctly
Use Opera instead. It's free, It's faster, It's Stable. - fabz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You have to use IE tab to be able to play their own ads correctly... what a shame !!!
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They added 3 more videos; check out "Wheee!".
