- fuhcough, on 07/18/2008, -3/+15I just love "EXCLUSIVE" in Digg titles... Wasn't aware Digg conducted interviews.
- matriculated, on 07/18/2008, -0/+11Must you question the all knowing MPAA?
- arjie, on 07/18/2008, -1/+12The Easter Egg he's talking about is at 1:34 in the trailer.

- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -1/+11And this is just the first one... Awesome
- johnnick, on 07/17/2008, -0/+9Ok, my hope for this is growing. He does seem to get it.
- offput, on 07/18/2008, -0/+9Alan Moore didn't find out about that story at all until they had already finished over half of Watchmen, so it's more a case of parallel development. And the "What" of a story is always the dullest part anyways.

I waited my whole life for someone to make I AM LEGEND and you fans of the book know what happened there. - jspegele, on 07/18/2008, -0/+7I wouldn't classify that as a "super crazy easter egg"
- MoralThreat, on 07/18/2008, -4/+11After Crystal Skull, anyone sweding owns Spielberg.
- JohnboiWaltune, on 07/18/2008, -1/+7Doctor Manhattan owes a lot to Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse Five)... all good art lifts from other art. All the characters in The Watchmen are reimagined versions of existing comic heroes.
- knuckles, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Thanks, but I saw the trailer. I want to see the interview.
- arjie, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6People get James Bond flashbacks from that, man. It's serious business.

- Tyrghast, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Liberal Arts majors are fun.
- f4nt0m4s, on 07/18/2008, -3/+8Snyder somehow managed to mess up interpreting some of Miller's critiques of society in the movie 300...I hope that all the fans of Moore's Watchmen embrace Snyder's film for what it is going to be...a director's interpretation with kick ass visuals.
That said, I don't think Snyder is as clever as he thinks he is, but it's a funny parody of the censorship that Spielberg put into ET. - inactive, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5Trailer in HD: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/watchmen/
- MisterNipples, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5That's just "blobitalia."
- nihility, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6You can't even tell. I hate the MPAA. (obligatory reference to This Film is Not Yet Rated)
- Boofster, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5The childrens be skeered..?
- apothekari, on 07/18/2008, -0/+5"My biggest complaint is that the villain's plan is lifted from the old "Outer Limits" episode, "The Architects of Fear": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Architects_of_Fea ..."
Uhhhh the plot INTENTIONALLY references the outer limits which was refrencing an even more obscure previous story from the late 1800's I believe,so it should not disappoint you.
All art & literature even superheroes reference previous things in order to build upon a feeling already present in the mind of the viewer/reader.
When done correctly there is an intimacy created that embraces the subject in a way that over explanation cannot, ever heard of a homage? - funkyp56, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4come on now, thats not a male, its a blue glowing Ken doll
- matriculated, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4and back when Watchmen came out, the Dark Knight Returns was also coming out - both books sparking off a revolution in American comics.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -6/+10Zack Snyder just owned Spielberg.
- pitchblack16, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4read the comics for my graphic novel class in university, cant wait to see the movie
- dmyers5, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Hmmm.. I must say there doesn't seem to be a single thing about that statement that's "ironic".
- kingUssop, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Why is it lifted just because it's a similar idea? Creative types live in the same world, it's pretty common for uncanny similarities to pop up without them being aware of other works of the same type.

- indochris609, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Does anybody have a clip of The Watchmen teaser in the 300 trailer? Somehow I never heard about that.
- zer0nix, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3300 the movie and 300 the graphic novel actually stand side by side as complementary partners, as they each tell the tale of thermopylae from a slightly different perspective. 300 the movie is specifically dilio's exaggerated retelling of the tale to pump up his men before battle; ie: it's over-dramatized and meant to stir emotions rather than being 'accurate' or objective. it differs from the graphic novel because it is meant to, as it is dillio's tale and his perspective.
-if you watch the movie from this standpoint, you will see all these little details standing out pointing towards dilio's personal point of view. the amount of care in selecting these minute details is quite astounding, particularly considering that i don't think anyone expects so much care to be lavished on this sort of film. in other words, on top of being able to creatively revisualize -and change- a beloved tale, this guy has an eye for detail.
the focus on dr manhattan in the trailer has me thinking the watchmen movie will be just like 300 in this regard; i'm expecting it will stand beside the graphic novel as a retelling from dr manhattan's unique perspective (for which he is uniquely qualified -check the excellent graphic novel to see why. listing the reasons here would absolutely qualify as spoilers for the five people on digg who haven't yet read it).
the crystal spaceship at the end pretty much confirms it for me. i won't be disappointed if i'm wrong.
if i'm correct, the watchmen movie shouldn't be too different from the graphic novel; dr manhattan is fairly unimpassioned and shouldn't see any reason to color the truth, though he may *hopefully* draw unique connections.
all said, i can't ***** wait. - KyleGoetz, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3What do you mean you waited your whole life? There are two previous versions (1964 and 1971)!
- knuckles, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3Interesting. Even though he had come the a similar ending independently of the 1963 episode he still gives the episode a holler in the movie. Very cool.
- wondertwins, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3This movie is going to be godly
- knuckles, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I don't either. I admit I have yet to read the Watchmen which is out of stock at my local book shop. But I don't mind spoilers at all.
- kingUssop, on 07/18/2008, -3/+5You know it's a funny gag, but that kind of thing along with the Bat'tude going on, worry me that Snyder thinks Watchman is supposed to be about goofy meta jokes. That's so off, so we can only hope he *really* gets it, which honestly he hasn't showed yet other than some decent panel recreation on screen.
- inkswamp, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Well, if stealing trendy, slo-mo action shots from the Wacowski Brothers means he owned Speilberg, then sure, but I have a feeling that Steven Speilberg is definitely not feeling owned by this.
- glaz, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3No, everyone should be chained to a desk forever whether they like it or not.
- inkswamp, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Criminy! Anyone accusing Alan Moore of plagiarism must be ignorant of his body of work which consists of a remarkable level of invention and creativity. Moore works primarily in comics, but his skill with the written word dwarfs a majority of the "serious" writers out there. I have no doubt at all that the similarities between The Watchmen and the Outer Limits episode are utterly coincidental.
And yeah, in case you noticed, my screen name and icon come partly from a character that Moore made famous. - dawtcalm, on 07/18/2008, -4/+6How is the REMOVAL of the gun an EASTER EGG???
Easter eggs are supposed to be something added, why is this so "super crazy"??? - Rolamoto, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Dugg for This Film is Not Yet Rated
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -3/+4The MPAA didn't let a gun be in the trailer, but they allowed male frontal nudity: http://i33.tinypic.com/t56781.png? Maybe NSFW
- Lust4Me, on 07/18/2008, -4/+5Not available outside the US?
This worked for me:

I think you missed the point. - drd051178, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Congratulations on not reading the article before you post.
He owned Spielberg by mocking his decision to replace handguns with walkie-talkies in E.T. - eSJayBee, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1I think because he's made an amusing homage to Spielberg.
- glaz, on 07/18/2008, -5/+5Yes, it takes ten years and a Harvard education to "get" the Watchmen. It's a comic book, it can be read in a few hours. The themes and messages are quite blatant, which is standard for graphic novels.
Please, the whole "not getting" Watchmen idea is completely ludicrous. I'm a big a fan as any. Whether or not they had the time and resources to fully convey the themes is what is important. Regardless, the film looks great and the comic book will always exist for those who want more. -
