- Detritus, on 07/02/2008, -17/+11I love Christian Bale, I've been a big fan since EVILISO released the American Psycho workprint... but Micheal Keaton was the best.
- vpshockwave, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Bale would kick Keaton's ass.
- ohnoitstaylor, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Bale would remove Keaton's head and keep it in the freezer next to the sorbet.
- tafkase7en, on 07/02/2008, -24/+3He's definitely not the best Batman.
- BlaqReaper, on 07/03/2008, -1/+15Hey may not be the best batman (even though I think he is), but I think his strength is how well he portrays both Batman and Bruce Wayne.
- CTK14A, on 07/03/2008, -0/+17Christian Bale was destined to become Bruce Wayne -- see Empire of the Sun.
- burnedtubes, on 07/03/2008, -4/+3EPIC agree!!
- solid12345, on 07/03/2008, -5/+2Christian Bale was destined to become Bruce Wayne -- see News.
- Mikhail101, on 07/03/2008, -2/+11Nobody is better than Adam We.
- Fergy, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Couldn't even finish it huh?
- brundlefly76, on 07/03/2008, -7/+1I think Robin done right could be outstanding (girl or boy) - we just don't have a precedent.
Ellen Page could be a great Robin if written and directed correctly. - clearwaterlab, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4I say, just scratch Robin and go straight to Nightwing. He's much darker and much edgier.
- Detritus, on 07/02/2008, -17/+11I love Christian Bale, I've been a big fan since EVILISO released the American Psycho workprint... but Micheal Keaton was the best.
- Zcrubby, on 07/02/2008, -1/+110I think I have a man crush...
- feshmania, on 07/02/2008, -0/+69...said Robin
- RudeTurnip, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Then I think you'll enjoy the scene at the end of "Velvet Goldmine" on the rooftop. Enough said :-)
- Xihix, on 07/02/2008, -1/+62It's Christian mother ***** Bale. You'd be gay if you didn't have a man crush.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/03/2008, -2/+7Priceless.
- kaamran, on 07/02/2008, -21/+1Agree with cmccool.
- Kellon, on 07/02/2008, -26/+24why are people so against robin. its part of the batman story/comic/legend. just because the previous movies have not done him well whose to say it cant be done well. what about nightwing? that might not be a bad idea...
- SeventhSon, on 07/02/2008, -2/+20Because Batman's such a badass that he doesn't need a dweeb like Robin.
- blazes816, on 07/02/2008, -1/+8He's a total geekburger with cheese.
- mickstephenson, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4But where would "The Tick" be without Arthur
- dagamer34, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Because the movie can't be as dark and gritty if you have a teen boy sidekick running around with you. It's like a movie producer taking the awesomeness of an R movie and forcing you to drop the rating to PG. That's how jarring it is.
Maybe we can somehow skip Robin and jump right to Nightwing? That'd be awesome!
- DOPPELGANGING, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3Logic fail.
- tenspeedogbb, on 07/03/2008, -2/+6And I'm not sure whether it was because of this or just because of Schumacher, but as soon as Robin showed up the Batman movies started to blow...
- StarlessKnight, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Not necessarily as a result of Robin; Robin may well have been a symptom of the growing problem. When a loner hero/character in a series starts attracting other people to the cause that share the limelight with them (not series where it starts that way, but more "help" arrives in sequels or later episodes) I usually take it as a sign the writer's have run out of material for the loner to act in the world they've created and are going to fabricate drama with increasingly difficult villains or scenarios which only a team can overcome.
- Atheuz, on 07/03/2008, -3/+9Because Robin has always and always will be seen as the little boy that batman has a homoerotic relationship with, and in no way can be seen as cool or nowhere near the seriousness of this new series.
- mattlohkamp, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5Has our culture's upgrade finished downloading and installing yet? I can't believe we're still stuck in puritan-point-five-oh.
- BevansDesign, on 07/03/2008, -2/+7Because Batman is way cooler without Robin. It's hard to be a brooding loner when you have a boy sidekick dressed in red, yellow, and green.
- hummer13, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2I believe most of the best selling batman pieces had very little to no Robin in them.
- Matri, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2Robin flits about the city at night dressed in flamboyantly-colored tights and a cape.
Do we really have to spell it out for you?- sap959, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3your sooo jealous
- SeventhSon, on 07/02/2008, -2/+20Because Batman's such a badass that he doesn't need a dweeb like Robin.
- krsone2424, on 07/02/2008, -3/+49Holy lame sidekick, Batman!
- kgreen69er, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Robin is for lollygaggers and shapeshifters anyways.
- Hegemony, on 07/02/2008, -1/+27At least Bale will be the voice of reason should that ever come up. They'd be insane to piss off the best batman ever.
- Xihix, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Nolan wouldn't want to have Robin anyway, though.
- mjsamps, on 07/02/2008, -5/+148This guy is dedicated to Batman. The dude's not in it for the paycheck and you gotta appreciate that.
- snareguy17, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5Completely agree with you on this.
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -6/+21Or, maybe, he is in it for the money and doesn't want to share center stage with anyone. I mean, this new Batman era is definitely going to go down in cinema history.
- BlaqReaper, on 07/03/2008, -1/+19If he didn't want to share center stage then he wouldn't have agreed to be in the Dark Knight considering Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal (and previously Katie Holmes) are all big names.
- Iztikeit, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0Well then his vision is shallow. Is that better?
- nikhil1986, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1Is it just me, or are they using Joker (heath ledger) to promote the movie. Like every preview I see, is 80% the joker. What I loved about the last Batman, was that it wasn't all about the villains (like the old franchise, where batman was pretty much characterless.. except Adam West obv). I know its going to be weird since Ledger is dead, but it looks like Warner is using his death for publicity of the movie as well.
- 1Bad, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2He is definitely a committed actor and I am glad he is getting the fame he has always deserved.
- Neuz89, on 07/02/2008, -0/+10having robin around would be bad for his billionaire playboy image which would result in less poon on/off camera
- RudeTurnip, on 07/02/2008, -0/+19Robin has only shown up in incarnations of Batman where Batman is a bit older. Bale's Batman is still relatively new and young in his crimefighting career.
- hammerpants, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Old batman don't get poon?
- Matri, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4When you're so old and wrinkled and foul tempered that even the Grim Reaper is too scared to pay a visit, it's definitely hard to get poon.
- RudeTurnip, on 07/02/2008, -0/+19Robin has only shown up in incarnations of Batman where Batman is a bit older. Bale's Batman is still relatively new and young in his crimefighting career.
- RyanElston, on 07/02/2008, -7/+59I think Christopher Nolan and Bob Kane/David S. Goyer could put together an awesome robin character. I mean it is POSSIBLE. Just because robin has been written in all the other movies as a total douche doesn't mean that there is no alternative.
- mandarin, on 07/02/2008, -1/+14I dont see how the name 'Robin' strike fear into the heart of evildoers.
- keyforce, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Maybe the dudes name is just Robin.
- bigspooon, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5you can say that for a lot of superheroes...
Green Lantern anyone? How about The Wonder Twins? Mr. Fantastic? Superboy?
Just because the name on its own doesnt sound fearsome doesnt mean its connotation cannot change. If spongebob kicked big-time criminal ass, im pretty sure he would strike fear into the heart of evildoers... - Jones82, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4If you heard the name Batman for the first time you probably wouldn't be ***** yourself with fear
- 1Bad, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Firs ...
I would rather not see some guy spread eagle with his nut-sack covered in a green banana hammock all up on the screen. - ziggyonice, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1There is no alternative.
- Radica1Faith, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Robin always irked me in the comic books. Batman would never endanger/need help, from a kid. they introduced Robin when people started to think comic books make kids kill (much like how some feel about video games today) in order to make batman more family friendly.
Robin has no right to exist.
- mandarin, on 07/02/2008, -1/+14I dont see how the name 'Robin' strike fear into the heart of evildoers.
- cowisgood, on 07/02/2008, -0/+23This is one of the few Batman series that has a much, much less cheesy attitude.
It's understandable that he wants to keep it that way, and casting a Robin character without being lame would be tough.- jwolcott, on 07/03/2008, -2/+7Robin is gay anyway.
- piratearggghhh, on 07/02/2008, -14/+2My only complaint is his batman voice.
- Vapor17, on 07/02/2008, -0/+14SWEAR TO ME!!
- dl0st, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1The lisp is a bit iffy.
- goldfenix, on 07/02/2008, -2/+23I hope he doesn't rule out having an Adam West cameo.
- Uiaccsk, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6dugg. adam west rules.
- xtal3, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7The Grayyyyy Ghostttt
- Vzylexy, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Oh *****, I love that episode!
- SinisterSaracen, on 07/02/2008, -0/+47Christian Bale's Batman would probably get sick and tired of Robin's whining and beat the crap out of him anyway..
- sjohnson0881, on 07/02/2008, -15/+4Bring back Robin!!!
- oliversan, on 07/02/2008, -8/+1Well that rules out the Dark Knight Returns as a film, the original comic book has Robin in it and was fantastically done. Shame too, they could have Robin if they put a different twist on it or dealt with it in a non-cheesy way.
- jfg84, on 07/02/2008, -4/+18They've remade Batman in a brilliant way and they can remake Robin. You can't just forget that Robin ever existed, he's a huge part of the Batman story.
- BlaqReaper, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2I kind of agree that Robin is a huge part of Batman. But I don't want him to be in the series. Maybe a nod to him like having a Dick Grayson/Jason Todd/Tim Drake reference in the film.
- goldfenix, on 07/02/2008, -0/+15Honestly, I think the bright red suit just kinda defeats the whole purpose of this new Batman. And you can't really have Robin without a red suit. If it were me, I'd probably skip right over Robin and go straight to Nightwing.
- Radica1Faith, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I believe Christopher Nolan is brilliant, but I don't think he really remade him more than he was staying true to the batman from the comic books. There are many similarities between Nolan's batman, and Frank Miller's batman. But it does seem like he's being remade after batman name was tarred by the Adam West series, and the awful batman movies that preceded Nolan's (excluding Tim Burton's)
- kinseyincanada, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8i really dont want them to milk batman and keep churning out films, although i would like to see them put the riddler into the films again, and maybe Bane or Killer Croc in small role.
- perfectska04, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Croc came out in one the Batman Gotham Knight short movies. They're supposed to be part of the batman begins/dark knight timeline.
- kinseyincanada, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1yea i just watched that the other day, but he hardly was a character and scarecrow came back as well.
- perfectska04, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Croc came out in one the Batman Gotham Knight short movies. They're supposed to be part of the batman begins/dark knight timeline.
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -3/+10I'd have no problem with Robin, if he played an actual character and not just Batman's bitch. Give us a legitimate Robin!
- diceau, on 07/03/2008, -4/+1The concept of 'batman' is lame enough, why would you want any sort of "robin'.
- mike727360, on 07/03/2008, -2/+21The original reason Robin was introduced was to draw in a younger comic book reading audience. That reason no longer exists. We wanted the darker, focused, psychotic that Christian Bale has re-introduced. If they want the younger audience, go see Harry Potter!
......maybe a Batman/Nightwing movie.......- Defuser, on 07/03/2008, -10/+5See, that's the problem with the Internet Generation. You're all so desperate to be part of herd that you base your every comment on what "we" want. Because god forbid you didn't have two million other Twitter Using, Digg Reading idiots re-enforcing your opinions. Last time I checked, we'd had FIVE "dark" Batman movies. This despite the fact that Batman, for 99% of his career, has not been a "dark" character. There's a reason why Ironman kicked the Batman franchise's ass, despite being a far less famous superhero. It's because the actual ADULTS of the world are sick of seeing the same craptastic emofest in every single Batman movie.
- solid12345, on 07/03/2008, -7/+3God I wish i could digg you 1,000 times. Don't get me wrong I like the dark Batman but people act like the Batman mythology started with Frank Miller.
- JigoroKano, on 07/03/2008, -2/+8The Batman mythology did start with Frank Miller.
Before Miller, Batman was nothing more than a modern Zorro with a little boy side kick.
Seriously, they were the same ***** character: the cave, the car/horse, the equipment, the cape, the wealth, the back story, ... the butler for Christ sakes!
- Defuser, on 07/03/2008, -10/+5See, that's the problem with the Internet Generation. You're all so desperate to be part of herd that you base your every comment on what "we" want. - XiberKernel, on 07/03/2008, -2/+6I wouldn't mind Robin, if they actually developed him, rather then making him 'the sidekick' - that archetype won't work with this Batman. It could also lead into a decent Nightwing...

- RobotCitizen, on 07/03/2008, -0/+13And the winner is... (opens envolope)... blogosphearblogosphear!
- EightBitFury, on 07/03/2008, -1/+12I just think that it is way too early in Batman's career for him to have a protege. This series so far is the origins and beginning of batman, and in it batman is still learning a few things himself. Although they could probably make a pretty badass robin, they shouldn't do it just yet.
- bigspooon, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I couldn't agree more. I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of introducing Robin later in the franchise but doing it now would be premature. I know that the Robin's of yore were pretty weak but I think with the right recharacterization (e.g. Robin isn't a whiny bitch) and proper casting it could be a pretty good addition. After all, if Christian Bale and the writers/director were able to make Batman more relevant today why can't they do the same for Robin?
- mecole21, on 07/03/2008, -10/+4They could pull of Robin if done right... The Circus scene in Batman Forever is still one of my favorite Batman moments...
- Falldog, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2I'm sure if they could manage such an amazing remake of Batman they could come up with something new and original for Robin. Even if you want to divert from the comics more and have him start off as Nightwing (less gay) the whole having an apprentice is a big part of Batman's story.
Now if they could bring back Ra's, work in Talia, and use Damian Wayne as an alternative, that would be awesome. - antdude, on 07/03/2008, -3/+3How about Batgirl, Catwoman, etc.? [grin]
- Tanthiel, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10I wouldn't mind if in the far off future they did something similar to cartoon networks Batman Beyond. I really enjoyed that cartoon, maybe out of youthful ignorance, but I still think it could make an interesting story on the big screen.
That said, I'm not too keen to see a Robin character. I trust they could do it right if they wanted to, but that would be at least a few movies down the line. - mojoel, on 07/03/2008, -5/+3I'd be game if they had like Claire from Heroes as Robin. Or some other cute girl. Know what I mean?
- Defuser, on 07/03/2008, -3/+8Yes. You mean you've never actually kissed a girl, and therefore feel the need to convince total strangers that you're Heterosexual.
- yahoofrom, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1wouldn't mind Selma Blair Robin.
- Defuser, on 07/03/2008, -9/+2This thread is proof-positive that the self-professed "Batman Fanboys" that infest the Internet don't actually give a damn about Batman. Robin is part of the Batman mythos. But the gaytard geekazoids that run around drooling "Batman Begins wuz teh BEST MOVEE EVAR!!!111eleventy" in all of these Digg threads don't actually want a "Batman" movie: they want an "Emo Dork in a Rubber Suit whines about how hard his life is" movie.
- Synn, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Well thanks for showing us what a real batman fanboy looks like.
- H3BR3W, on 07/03/2008, -10/+4***** all this Robin bashing. Anyone who doesn't have respect for the character and what someone like Nolan could do with him, including Christian Bale, can go ess a dee. Not dark enough? He has an eerily similar origin story to Bruce Wayne. How's that not dark enough?
Robin makes Batman better. Fact. Look it up.- pseudologue, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Look it up... where?
the old comic books? oh look. it's lame, as it makes no ***** sense of have a young kid running around Batman while he fights crime while at the same time making Batman seem like a pedophile.
the previous movies? oh look. it's even lamer. So they're ... partners. Gotham has a civil union?
the tv show? wrong tone. If it was a campy recreation then yes, Robin and Batman can go out fighting 'crime' as if this was an imaginary episode of Muppet Babies.- H3BR3W, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1The comics, yes. Old and new. Him adopting Robin made plenty of sense. He sympathized with his situation, first and foremost. He understood how it felt to have something like that happen to you at that age, and instead of leaving Dick Grayson to walk the path he did with such a burden...he saved him...like a super hero. He did so not only to help Dick, but to help himself with his ever growing war on crime, not to mention to keep him grounded and provide a less cynical, more human perspective on the whole operation.
The only time Robin has been lame is in live action mediums, and he's never made Batman look like a pedophile in my eyes. If that's the case, Captain America's a pedo for working with Bucky. It was a big thing in the '40s for comics to appeal to younger children, so a lot of the big-namers had young sidekicks with whom the aforementioned demographic could better relate.
Omg, how stupid and nonsensical. :|

- thebassmaster, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Are you one of those 'freelance fact writers' from Fox News?
- iMyst, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3ess a dee? S a D? just say suck a dick you *****.
- pseudologue, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Look it up... where?
- ohnoitstaylor, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10The only way I will settle for Robin ever being in a new Batman installment is if he gets brutally murdered like the Jason Todd Robin.
- saranagati, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2that would actually be make for a good story. robin is some adopted kid that bruce has, who helps out with chores around the bat cave then one day decides he wants to be like batman and goes out and gets brutally murdered within like 5 minutes of leaving the cave.
- slyzxx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Though Robin is a part of batman it took away from him its self. I`ve seen it all batgirl, batboy, batwoman. they all sucked.
- lowfalls, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Did you ever know that you are my hero (in a totally not-gay way)?
- JonnyIsElectric, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4ill only go see a batman film with robin in it if he wears that tight red green and yellow spandex like he did in the tv show
- jfg84, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Speaking of Jason Todd, it would be pretty sweet to see Nolan do an adaptation of The Death of Robin. That would be a perfect way to fit Robin into this series.
- Conguent, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Well said Master Wayne.
- revenz, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2the death in the family would be awesome to see in a batman flick, it would push him darker, and make a fantastic movie (ok the book wasnt that great, but the idea was brilliant). and robins death has been a huge part of the batman character ever since.
all they have to do is do robin well, if they stick to the source material and are true to the character, it would work. and introducing robin you;ll get to do other things like batgirl/oracle (seeing joker cripple barbara gordon would also be a pretty dark flick). - LordSkywalker, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Robin doesn't need to be in a Batman movie. He needs his own. Watch the trailer for GRAYSON to see what it could be like.
http://theforce.net/fanfilms/nonsw/grayson/ - dd240sx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3best news all day today i am glad he is standing up for that nothing but respect for him
- F9Phoenix, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Awesome. I have been wishing the same thing: NO ***** ROBIN!
- kevro, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Thank god!
- Gimjee, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3No Robin, but Nightwing would be awesome to see.
- h0ser, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1robin should be a hot chic or something. It sounds like a hot chic.
- GerudoX, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0The problem isn't that they can't do Robin as a dark character, it's that for most people who aren't comic fans, they only remember Robin as "that annoying kid sidekick ".
- IrishKeith, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Seeing Chris O'Donnell as Robin back in 1997 is enough for me to remember what a really bad idea that turned out to be. Thankfully Christian Bale agrees too, that guy is the best Batman by far!
- AVigorVermin, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1the only way I could see robin working is if they made him unknown to the audience as 'robin'...maybe a tattoo of a robin gives it away or something...but I just can't see a traditional robin working here.
- andymazzu, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1MiIlo Ventimiglia as Robin!!!! A more bad ass robin will do.
- bblande, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3SWEAR TO ME!!!!!!!
- asguardian, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Didn't Bale try out for Robin for the "Batman Forever" movie?
- sap959, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1ooof... wonder why he doesnt like robin then :P
- swAppp, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Batman is afraid that robin would date catwoman, anyone?
- xeyne, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1but....but.....but.....but robin is there to "help" batman. and by "help", i mean be useless enough to get caught by baddies, and then batman has to rescue him, cos it would kinda be bad for his rep if he just let them kill robin, even though he really, really, really, REALLY wish they didd
so ya, it would save ALOT of useless/pointless/annoying screen time if they just left robin out completely. -
