- nospinhere, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Use to do just the reverse part swinging around thew front all the time. We called them Jimmy Rockfords because that is what they use to do on that show on every chase scene.

- abstractual, on 12/29/2007, -6/+4Shhhh! You dare question The Algorithm Questioner?
- Frostman3D, on 12/29/2007, -2/+2I say somebody's digging in somebody's ass with their face.
- masterm1nd, on 12/29/2007, -1/+4That probably means it wasn't dugg by "voting blocks" or "friend groups" who have lesser individual vote weight.
- Frostman3D, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3I bet digg moderators can bury or front page a story at will.
- archiegaff, on 12/29/2007, -0/+5Because 5MIN know how to beat the Digg Algorithm. They SPAM their way to the top everyday with their fake accounts. Digg doesn't seem to care or know how to stop it.
- DeathJux, on 12/29/2007, -0/+29Shhhh! You dare question The Algorithm?
- DeathJux, on 12/29/2007, -4/+64Sweet sassy-molassy, my guess is that most diggers can barely master the art of parallel parking, let alone this sort of crazy crap.
- Cadenza, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I like doing this on the Burnout Paradise demo :)
- ufia, on 12/29/2007, -6/+74Great trick if you are a secret agent in a car chase. Or to impress the girls if you have a small penis.
- abstractual, on 12/29/2007, -2/+2I lolled.
- Richggs, on 12/29/2007, -0/+9I cried...
- Frostman3D, on 12/29/2007, -13/+11WOW!!! This will really come in handy if I ever want to look like a complete ***** or want to tear the ***** out of a car for no good reason. Thanks!
- krische, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3Well, I guess now you know what to do next time you have a rental!
- colto, on 12/29/2007, -0/+120Part of me wants to practice this to perfection then do it randomly when my friends are in the car just to scare the ***** out of them.
- bxblox, on 12/29/2007, -1/+1they wont be too happy when they havent braced themselves and their head smash into the windows
- MrBabyMan, on 12/29/2007, -5/+11Cool! Stunt drivers used to call this a "Rockford" slide. Anyone who's ever seen a car chase from any episode of "The Rockford Files" knows why.
- Alix7, on 12/29/2007, -0/+16Because it was used in that show?
- databoy, on 12/29/2007, -7/+2Movies are over the top entertainment. In real life you can kill someone with stupid stunts. More money than brains; impound the vehicle and put it through a vehicle crusher. Return the vehicle as a steel cube.
- blahtastic, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3"Your car has been crushed into a cube. You have 30 minutes to move your cube."
- Markpdotcom, on 12/29/2007, -1/+2Its also more commonly known as the J-turn.
- chops, on 12/29/2007, -6/+23I've said it once I'll say it again, you nerds have no appreciation for automobiles and the very presence of an automotive section on digg is a waste.
- Alix7, on 12/29/2007, -1/+4Hello Lifestyle category.
- databoy, on 12/29/2007, -6/+4You forgot to add: Big hands, small impotent dick, no woman, no intelligence, cannot differentiate a movie stunt from real life. In need of a good blow job from an experienced pro.
- re0turin, on 12/29/2007, -1/+3ooo! like the suck for a buck lady!
- Zeonix, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Why are big hands thrown in there?
- skizzy, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2are you that "experienced pro"?
- rarson, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1My problem is that this is filed under "Motorsport." I'm not familiar with digg enough to know whether this is the only automotive category there is, but it shouldn't be, since there's an awful lot of stuff you can cover about cars that has nothing to do with motorsports. This video being a good example.
- Bisclavret, on 12/29/2007, -1/+5pretty bad ass.
- abstractual, on 12/29/2007, -0/+0I'd hit that.

//sarcasm- J0415, on 12/29/2007, -1/+19how do I do that in an automatic?
// serious- CaptnHector, on 12/29/2007, -0/+4The same way you do it in a manual: handbrake turn, switch to reverse, flip the steering wheel, tap the brakes and put into drive.
- theholyraptor, on 04/07/2008, -0/+9while I'm not car nut, I believe most stunt driving loses some of it's finesse in an automatic.
- keyo, on 12/29/2007, -0/+15Automatics are just plain ***** to drive. They are also complete arse on hills.
- trogdoor, on 12/29/2007, -0/+11I'm pretty sure that it's harder to do without a clutch, you would need to shift in and out of neutral at just the right times when changing direction.
- rarson, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Driving is always easier using a manual, unless you can only brake with your left foot. The feedback alone from the clutch pedal is worth it (and I'd argue that the gears are easier to find in a manual).
- CaptnHector, on 12/29/2007, -0/+4The same way you do it in a manual: handbrake turn, switch to reverse, flip the steering wheel, tap the brakes and put into drive.

If you're wondering, that came from teh "Burning Rubber" DVD- flxfxp, on 12/29/2007, -1/+1Clarkson is way better, i'm glad TG got rid of him.
- Markpdotcom, on 12/29/2007, -2/+2By all accounts Tiff left because it was becoming "the Clarkson show", which is essentially what top gear is now. Thats not a bad thing, just not what Tiff signed up to do.
- flxfxp, on 12/29/2007, -1/+1Clarkson is way better, i'm glad TG got rid of him.

- Markpdotcom, on 12/29/2007, -0/+4...because you might need it one day while being chased by bad guys in your car and also have your laptop and wifi connection near the motorway, that stays connected at 100mph?
- ariez84, on 12/29/2007, -0/+48I tired it on my automatic corolla and now i have to go to a mechanic tomorrow.
- jaschen, on 12/29/2007, -5/+5you should try it on the ***** you just tried feeding us.

- Digg90210, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3Did you mess up your transmission? If so, you may have forgotten to use the brakes sufficiently.
Next time, try it on a rental car first! - DeathJux, on 12/29/2007, -3/+2I believe I speak for everyone when I say: "LOL!"
- jaschen, on 12/29/2007, -5/+5you should try it on the ***** you just tried feeding us.
- counterplex, on 12/29/2007, -2/+3I just tried what was apparently the handbrake turn a couple of days back. I got disoriented fairly quick though since it was my first time but it felt excellent :)
- tayf, on 12/29/2007, -0/+22This vid should be titled "Fun With Hire Cars".
- BitterPeace, on 12/29/2007, -1/+6I'm gonna try this with my SUV
- timbo458, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2Better buckle up and put on a helmet,no forget the helmet!
- digitallysick, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1SUV? you will probably flip
- databoy, on 12/29/2007, -13/+1If this is the level of intellect in the USA, no wonder George W. is a hill-billy.
- PixelEater, on 12/29/2007, -1/+13Brilliant assertion databoy. Almost made me run for my confederate flag emblazoned Dodge Charger there. Then I noticed the video was British. Back to brewing moonshine I guess.
- Markpdotcom, on 12/29/2007, -4/+1English, please!

- shlemielo, on 12/29/2007, -2/+2If you're gonna try this, be sure to brace yourself before the reverse 180.
- unixgold, on 12/29/2007, -3/+4These are known as J turns in some three letter agency circles
- Rotzooi, on 12/29/2007, -2/+11Dugg for the legendary Tiff Needell, who might look and act like a soccer dad, but whose driving is easily as good as The Stig's.
- waffledad, on 12/29/2007, -3/+2What the hell, just go that fast and put it in 'R' for race with your automatic tranny, goes really fast (I mean the tranny).
- cvm4, on 12/29/2007, -1/+3Definitely do not try this in your own car. Make sure it's a rental or borrowed ;)
- timbo458, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2Can't wait to see all the newbie drivers trying that one!
- mirunit, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2Warning, I do not think this will work well with an automatic - just FYI.
- blacklabelrum, on 12/29/2007, -8/+2my wrx sti 2.5 turbo does that much better!
- XHashmeerX, on 12/29/2007, -1/+4Watch everyone care.
- WestonP, on 12/29/2007, -2/+1Yeah, just what we need... more retards trying to do fancy things on the street, wrecking their cars in the process. While this certainly is cooler than all of that drifting nonsense, it's still going to result in more wrecks and more jackassery on the street. If you want to learn to drive like a real race car driver, do it at the track, where it belongs... Sign up for an HPDE event with http://www.NasaProRacing.com
- Markpdotcom, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Sorry, I thought your link said Nas Car Pro Racing... and there you were talking about "real race car drivers", I nearly died of laughter!
- UNL1M1T3D, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1Yes because I see people doing J-turns all the time in Nascar.
- tabularassa, on 12/29/2007, -0/+12my rearview mirror is broken. I'll use this technique from now on
- anarchytv, on 12/29/2007, -1/+3I am so going to try this in my private plane...
- likwidfuzion, on 12/29/2007, -1/+1I'll be sure to attempt this in front of a police department.
- lowerlogic, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3This should be added to the driving school curriculum.
- mesoiam, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2this guy is the master of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0lRwH54uHw
- scb0825, on 12/29/2007, -3/+1This is a good video detailing how to perform this maneuver; however, I would not suggest doing this in an automatic unless the car is not yours (ie. a rental), or is yours but you have mastered this. A long time ago I watched a show about a driving school and one of the segments in the show talked about doing this maneuver, afterwards I thought I would try it out; I used my daily driver back then which was a manual transmission ZX2 (I know crappy cars). A few things I learned from my experiences:
1) When driving in reverse, you do not need to hit your brakes and turn your wheels to flip your car around. If you are moving at a nice rate of speed (10mph+), just turning your wheels sharply will flip your car around.
2) For what ever reason you decide that you need to learn and master this skill, make sure you are able to flip your car in either direction (left/right) and vise versa. When I was practicing this I got really good at flipping my car around to the right, but not to the left... so I had to practice doing it to the left.- mike17032, on 12/29/2007, -1/+1I have done this lots of times in an automatic, its easy. The trick is just to put it up into neutral before flipping the wheel, the put it into drive once you are facing straight. If you do it right its perfectly fluid.
Good point about #2 also.
Anyone that wants to try this should go find a big empty parking lot with nothing to hit. I wouldnt advise this in an SUV or even a smaller car with a thin wheel base, because those are a lot easier to flip over.

- viclazlo, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2these manuevers are typically used in escape and evasion to protect a VIP. the bootleg turn is often used to reverse course out of an ambush or a roadblock.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootleg_turn - AllanX, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1And today at Darwin Award University we'll be learning something called "How to Do a Reverse Switch."
- futureisours, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1How do I do this with an automatic?
- caketank, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1Put the car in drive. Build up a bit of speed, cut the wheel to turn into the dealer's lot, and trade it in for a manual.
- passedoutghost, on 12/30/2007, -0/+0In all seriousness, it's harder to do it in auto. You've got to put it into neutral just before your flick the wheel and change into reverse when your facing "backwards". Common sense. I'd recommend against trying to switch from drive to reverse instantly cause I nearly ***** up my transmission last time due to not stamping on the break properly. Heard a nasty, nasty screech.
- dvdchris, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I did a perfect J-turn from a dead stop out of a bank drive thru years ago in my Buick Century. Yes, it was an automatic. I was so mad after waiting forever and there was no way but reversing out of the drive thru area; I wanted to get out of there before someone pulled up behind me. I guess all the Rockford Files sank in because I didn't even think while doing it...
- rheaume, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I thought it was telling your girlfriend you were withdrawing money out of the vacation fund to buy a pretty, pretty Apple computer but then turning around and buying an equivalent pc and 360 for the same price.
- chudgoo, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2i can't wait to scoop up a cheap fixer-upper "only rolled once" Acura RSX after people start trying this
- digitallysick, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I have a standard, but i don't think i have the skills to pull that off
- sassafras1232, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1Buried because A. the J-turn is mislabeled as a "reverse switch", B. His explanation was hurried and vague, but mostly C. He missed the J-turn 2 out of 3 times. The car's momentum should be maintained, but he was clearly stopped and then rolling the other direction twice.
There's got to be a better video explaining this out there somewhere... - cadmiumpaint, on 12/30/2007, -0/+0i'm now waiting for the follow up vid of a rich kid rolling his EVO trying something like this.
