- maxsunset, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16anybody that's interested in a real racing sport.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Oval circuits are so pathetic and lame...
- waynechng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Anyone who believes that real car racing involves turning both left and right ...
- lupinus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I'm sorry but are you a Nascar follower??? Yes the highest paid athlete in the world should be a dude who hits a little ball toward a small hole, because risking your life every other weekend is not worthy!!
Dumbass! - xsuite, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Hmmm.... digg up if you give a ***** about F1.....hmmm im being dugg down...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I witnessed the Senna vs Prost rivalry. Man, there were times when I thought they would get off their cars and start bitchslapping each other in the middle of a race.
That was Formula One at its finest. - GuidoRosso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sorry but Schumacher vs Hill isn't a very valid comparison. He might not have had a reliable car at the time, but Schumacher was on an entirely different driving level to anyone else. The man is a monster.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I might find racing a bit boring but F1 is 10 times more interesting than the trash*NASCAR* that some people call racing.
- GuidoRosso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, but even so. Schumi was clearly somewhat of a prodigy. Remember one of his early races, I believe it was Belgium, where he started 16th and won? If I remember correctly, Hill was quite in the race too, Schumi won on pure driving talent. I remember hating him at the time, out of pure jealousy that Ferrari didn't have a driver like that ;) However, that race was the first time I really started to understand what a monster the guy was.
- lupinus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ayrton shall live for ever!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Schumi vs. Hill was always made for a good race, back when Schumi won his first two championships (94, 95)... It's too bad Senna died when he did, as watching Schumi and Senna battle head to head would have been amazing. I didn't catch much of the Senna vs. Prost rivalry, they didn't have much coverage of F1 in the States (where I lived at the time) until 94 or so. I do remember watching the race that Senna get killed in, however...
- aviazn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Having said that, I must admit I don't understand why everyone has to rag on each other's series...I love F1 and Champ Car, WRC, and MotoGP, but I also love spending Friday nights at my local dirt track and I'll gladly watch Nascar when it's on. I'd even venture as far to say that Nascar has some of the most exciting *road* racing in the world by virtue of the fact that the cars are so ill-suited to the format. Add 400 lbs and 150 hp to a Aussie V8 Supercar, then plop a handful of excellent road racers like Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart and Boris Said into them...and then add about 30 other guys who don't have a clue what they're doing, and it's quite a spectacle!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i swear i dont understand why half of these people come here and comment about things they dont care about. if you hate the story, bury it, but dont fill the comments section with arguement.
- DeepSkyDiver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well this is strange, and I agree with guidorosso that Hill was never in Schumacher's league so the comparison is wishful thinking. Even in 1994 Schumacher dominated him. Of the 11 races in which he took part and wasn't DQ'd, prevented from starting or had an engine failure he scored 92 points out of 110 from 11 starts (even *including* Adelaide). Brilliant.
The rivalry was not of talent, and I'm surprised not to see Mika and Schu, or Nigel and Nelson. - wheels999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Schumi vs Senna absolutely... but that was happening anyway... those two were lightyears beyond anyone else at the time, whenever equipment permitted it.
- pixelboy77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No Schumacher v Hakkinen ?
No Schumacher v Villeneuve ?
Hmmm - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Man, Hakkinen and (Jaques) Villeneuve were no one. Giles Villeneuve on the other hand...
- aviazn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@bovester
Schumi's *retired* dude...get with the program. Or should I say, programme. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think they're talking about the rivalry circa '94, '95, before Schumacher went to Ferrari
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I never thought Hill was that good of a driver, don't get me wrong.. He was just in the right car at the right time, similar to Hakkinen in 97 and 98 (because the Ferrari wasn't a good enough package at the time)... But in 94 and 95, they really had some good head to head battles... You're right though, Schumi was a genius..
- GuidoRosso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed on the Schumi vs Senna. That would have been grand.
- Guagloves, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Go Schumi go.
- waynechng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agree ... but my favorite rivalry was Lauda vs. Prost when both were on the same McClaren team!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Never thought too much of Hakkinen, especially after his "crying in the woods" thing at canada I think, after he DNFed
- third_eye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think they left out Piquet and Mansell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64V62Kgm2xs
- trev0006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Race car drivers are like corporate guys at a very large corporate job, they will do anything to win even if they are friends or teammate. Check out couple of videos about the rivalry of these drivers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C0I7Ef4gQI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6xwLC9Vlkk http://www.discountpartcenter.com
- mgadalsky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks! I'm surprised. http://hobbyzoom.blogspot.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@wheels999:
Yes, it just could have been so much more exciting if Senna wasn't taken out of the game... If he hadn't been killed, we would be talking about the Schumacher vs. Senna rivalry, which would have been much better than Schumi vs. Hill.. - Drood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Be nice if the writer had actually researched his facts correctly, since seemingly a driver he mentions dying in a particular race finished that race in 5th...
The Senna/Prost one is particularly irritating... Japan, the final GP... WRONG! Adelaide was the season closer through all of the Prost/Senna rivalry. 1989 was the ludicrously wet one where Prost parked after one lap, and Senna stormed away, only to have a "chat" with the rear of Brundles car. 1990 was won by Piquet.
And Ross Brawn triggered the Ferrari revival. The year before he arrived, 1996, the year the German arrived, Ferrari scored LESS points than the prior two seasons with Alesi and Berger at the wheel. And yet in populist (and ill informed) articles, Brawn's contribution is completely ignored, when he is at LEAST as responsible, probably more so.
If you're going to go to the trouble of exposing your article to a wide audience, you should probably make sure you get it right, lest massive fans of the sport, like myself, spank you. - jfkf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Schumacher v Alonso? :&
- lewylive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know JPM never won a world championship but, I believe Schumacher and Montoya had a small rivalry. Montoya made mistakes but, he never backed down. He had some of the best overtaking moves on Schumacher.
Check out Schumacher vs Montoya battles on YouTube. - nismosigma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The "rivalry" between Jenson and Anthony is pointless, ant is the slowest car on the grid unfortunatly and Jenson has a probably mid pack, hopefully 1st place car.
- matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Schumacher vs. Alonso
I know its pretty recent but i thought it was great. The young hot shot againist the legend. - bigbadgoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think Passion was the difference. Jacques went from best in the world one year with Williams-renault to bottom of the pack with that horrible POS BAR honda. Villeneuve's problem was that he was getting lapped by people who he flat out smoked the year(s) before simply because his car and team flat out sucked. He showed the passion of someone who got screwed over, who wasnt competitive because of his lack of skill, but rather because of his lack of team.
The dude's friggen depressed, went from being so much great than MS that he forced the asshat to ram him out of the last race in desperation. I dont blame him. He knows he should be the one with the wins record. Not schumi. - DuctTape31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its totally passion. JV's passion was for the almighty $$$ which BAR and his "former" Agent who was running the team (a massive conflict of interest) where Williams wouldn't pay. The BAR years were Jacques fault, if he's depressed the only person he has to look at for how he got there is himself. When he first went to BAR it wasn't even good enough to have a real engine, those years with the Supertech that was a year old re-branded engine were a joke, and one he brought on himself by listening to Craig Pollack
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Hmmm.... digg up if you give a ***** about F1.....hmmm im being dugg down..."
hmmm, why are you posting here if you dont give a *****? - themindoflunacy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Schumi nearly beat JV with a car that was horrible. JV was no where near MS. Come on, get real... MS won three world championships with a car that wasn't the best in the field, '94 (except maybe the beginning of the season), '95 and 2000. Come on, JV had a car that was light years ahead of the rest in '97, and he still got pushed to the last race.
- matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1uhhh he makes 80 million a year in salary...................
then on top of that makes endorsements (and a couple free ferrais probably)
So you find me some athlete that makes more then you can say its *****
and about tiger woods thats prize money which is 80.3 million.
Schumacher could crash every race and still get that much. - SkullyCollins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0An enjoyable read IMO.
Of course the most recent ones are there (Prost and Senna; Hill and Schumacher).
I though the Britain vs. the World section was an interesting topic to read. Being British as well, it makes me proud to be British knowing that we were the ones that were responsible for the high performance cars of this day and day, all because Cooper put their engines in the middle of the car, rather then their Italian rivals, Ferrari, who opted for the "horse to pull the cart".*
*Quoted from Enzo Ferrari - themindoflunacy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Hakkinen was a nobody? What are you talking about??? Hakkinen out qualified Senna in his first race for McLaren. In the first race that he finished for McLaren, he was just 15 secs behind Senna. That's outstanding for somebody with barely any experience racing... I respect Hakkinen, he was definitely extremely under-rated, there's no questioning that...
- replikhant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Last season was pretty damn magnificent. The way Schumacher came back and even passed Alonso with three races to go. Was it in China? Anyways, the events generated so much controvery in forums, and discussion boards around the whole planet earth. In the end Alonso beat the 7 time world champ, nevertheless Schumacher left in flames.
And what about Alonso: That is a demon on the car. Check out the F1 Gala 2006 video on youtube. Fantastic season. Fantastic. The end of an era. - DuctTape31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gilles vs Jacques....
Passion is the difference. I may have never seen Gilles live as he died when i was young, but i watched Jacques entire career self imposion. Gilles was a passionate man and drove with it, and wore it on his sleve. Jacques at the best of times was aloof and disinterested. Don't get me wrong, i always have and will cheer for JV, even through the disasterous BAR years, but even with a championship his legacy will pale compared to his fathers. - Cogita, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Thanks! I swear i saw it on freshmeat or somewhere else.
- fknc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Schumacher said Hakkinen was his greatest rival, or at least, the driver he most enjoyed competing against.
- mattc908, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Umm Pics Woulda Been Nice.
- austintexasguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No mention of Berndt Rosemeyer in the entire article?! The old Auto-Union vs. Mercedes battles were the best racing has ever seen and this silly article starts in 1950? What a joke.
- Flurry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Gilles Villeneuve didn't even win a championship...how can Jacques be "no one"?
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3i could have sworn i read ovaries not rivalries..
- ggarenn, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1i could've sworn i read "LAME" not "legendary"
