- hholland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I downloaded formula one last night. It's the most beautiful and light weight live cd I've ever used. ***** A guys, nice job
- jeff1943, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUbuntu
At least there's an Wikipedia entry ;) - DarkSenay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, auditor is good, but you have to understand, this is a dev release so they are still working on adding more features and working out bugs. Just remember to keep an open mind.
- owine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1from the Canocial website:
(Canocial) is entirely committed to the principles of open source software development; no part of it will ever be proprietary, and we encourage people to use it, improve it and pass it on. - Lil0ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1pretty yes, small size yes
digg+ - rrittenhouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I downloaded nUbuntu earlier and used VMWare to run the live cd.
First impression is very good..the gui is very good looking and the wallpaper is even better!
The only lack of things are the packages but um this is a development release for a reason! :)
Good job guys keep up the good work and...well if ubuntu has anything to say..tell them to shove it up their asses and get a new name haha.
P.S. To lotusleaf -
You could have worded it better and not have been so reactive toward the project. You could have been a nice person and have made them aware of their possible mistake and not just bash them for it.
+digg - coldshuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you should change your distroname because you don't work in collaboration with Ubuntu's officials or maybe you guys could just join them?
- waiwai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Geh, looks like digg needs metamoderation too. lotusleaf's complaint about trademarks was something I would never agree with, why would any distro want less tools based on them? Have you no clue about the goals of open source? But you shouldn't rate something negative just because you don't agree with it like a lot of people seem to have done.
- coldshuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if he can foresee the futur, or is that just a stupid joke?
http://forum.nubuntu.org/index.php?showtopic=79 - cfdisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No reason to complain. Just saying - it is kinda pointless to release something that has already been perfected. It's just me I'm sorry. I like to argue.
- gonffen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The correct title of this article is nUbuntu. The initial letter is capitalized due to technical restrictions.
- gonffen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please help seed on bittorrent: http://tracker.kedora.net/torrents/nubuntu/nubuntu-devel-formulaone-live-i386.iso.torrent
- DarkSenay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Cant complain about people trying to innovate and make new and better FREE software under the GPL. No reasons to argue about that.
- uncutnyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK RyanH, tombee, you're right.
- RyanH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why would you need permission to use the name Formula One? It is a friggin codename for a release, and has not been trademarked in any way other than the type of racing, if I am incorrect please state so with a link or something proving me wrong. I don't know why these stupid legal bickers keep popping up here but they need to slow down or halt.
- owine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is the most visually appealing distro out there in my opinion. its so beautiful!
- pflodo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The FIA (that runs the car Formula One) don't seem to actually claim trademark on just "Formula One" and will always say the "FIA Formula One" in their own text. There are however other companies that have trademarked "Formula One", especially in the realm of software. But seriously, it is a release codename, it is here today and gone tomorrow. A cease and desist letter would be easy to comply with, just put out the next release.....
- TestMAD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you look at ubuntu and nubuntu's logos...there's clear differences
- tombee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ok lets complain about Debian using characters from Toy Story to codename their releases....
*rolls eyes* - Lexx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a new toy!! i cannot wait to test out its hardware compatibilities as it is worked on... kudos to anyone putting out fun new distros +digg
- hholland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm a F1 fan and I dabble in security and pen-testing in own time. This is the coolest thing I've seen in quite some time :)
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now I guess I'm the one nitpicking... but "Canocial" [owine]? lol. It's Canonical.
- RyanH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is one of the greatest lightweight distributions to hit Linux, and the top to the Live CD + Network basis. Seeing as this is a devel release, I can't really say much other than nUbuntu is going in the right path and I will be there to help it along. I imagine once a full release is made, I will be using this for my System Administration job, yes it is THAT good. Lightweight, Live CD, great-looking, and fluxbox - need I say more?
- Knelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ubuntu is Open-Source and there is nothing wrong with using the source-code to base another distro or whatnot under the GPL. I think that's great. But it entirely another thing to use the registered trademarks without permission. An organization has to defend its trademarks. Otherwise, they mean nothing and can be diluted and associated with things that are not desirable for the organization.
- cfdisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2nUbuntu is a complete ripoff of auditor. The only difference is basically the distro. Why would anyone use Ubuntu for security and network tools when it is one of the most insecure distro's to date.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"based on Ubuntu"
Ubuntu is a registered trademarks of Canonical Ltd., I hope they have permission to use the name. I've informed people in #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net about this. I don't see ANY mention of 'nUbuntu' on The Official Ubuntu Forums (ubuntuforums.org) and Google doesn't turn up much information either. In my opinion, if I wanted security with Ubuntu, I'd use Ubuntu (which I do on a few boxes, it's great) and not a distribution based on Ubuntu which may or may not be official.
No digg - spyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a short interview with the writer of nUbuntu at
http://www.securitydistro.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=71&Itemid=2 - uncutnyc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Did they get permission to use the name Formula One?
- kimholland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1F1 release, sweet.
- cfdisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I wont use it. Just informing the masses that there is a better live CD solution for network and security tools called auditor :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3"I don't see you reading much"
Probably because you've never seen me at all.
"it's not for "securing" your computer"
Did I say that it was? What I did say was: 'if I wanted security' which could mean a lot of things.
"retard"
How typical and sad - thegrinder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It is the guy who worked on it.
- owine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1jealousy...
- _jinx_, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@cfdisk:
your point can be understood maybe only by the stubborn and stupid. Why are you honestly complaining? If you don't like it, dont use it! Does it make any sense at all for you to complain...? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@_jinx_
"no need to bash a great light distro!:"
I wasn't bashing, I pointed out that Ubuntu is a registered trademark and shared my opinion further on this. Normally when people make a spinoff of a distribution such as Debian for example, the name is different. There are a lot of trademarks that exist in the world of Linux, and you frequently see a (C) or (TM) at the bottom of a lot of popular Linux sites. Yes, the idea of open source is to be open, to share and to contribute, but show how many spinoffs do you see of Debian, Red Hat, SUSE, etc. do you see that USE these names? Trust becomes a big issue when names are used, and a certain amount of respect should be involved.
Go ahead, mod this one down to and call me a retard some more. Way to represent the open source community. O_o

No digg
------------- - Tom_Riddle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1haha.
don't you agree that the best part of the person is its ability to disagree?
if everyone thought similarly and made ultimately correct choices constantly, life would be boring.
this is a forum. people have the right to complain and correct. get over it. if Kevin or Alex don't want you to post they will erase your post. - gonffen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think I do represent a fair portion of the planet when I say that "no digg" is the single most annoying part of digg. Also, why do you care if somebody has permission to use the name or not? It's not your ass that might get in trouble.
- sethkinast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would be worried about Canonical taking action over the use of their trademark and logo. I think lotusleaf has a valid concern.
- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7"their" website... not "they are" website
- ownthebox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I don't see ANY mention of 'nUbuntu' on The Official Ubuntu Forums (ubuntuforums.org) and Google doesn't turn up much information either. In my opinion, if I wanted security with Ubunt

I really hope you're joking. The amount of petty fighting on digg is really detrimental. - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@thegrinder
especially when it's against a guy who submitted the story and probably works on nUbuntu - tarun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Formula One" is an awesome release name. www.f1.com for the uninitiated. I can't wait for the next racing season starting in March.
