http://digg.com/mods/Xbox_360_goes_liquid#c1342217 - OIF2_IFTE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11dude that is awsome. I have seen some nice console mods, but that one is ***** cool. I wouldnt atempt it b/c I dont have extra cash lyin around to buy a new 360 if I f*cked it up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Read this before you or ( - ) Digg.
The console is already liquid cooled.
The fans make almost no noise at all, it is the cd-drive that makes the noise when you play the Xbox 360, so in turn, removing the fans will not lower the noise level.
I think diggers should be aware of this - neverender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7seriously. amazing machine and implementation skills. well done.
my crappy version would be a dry ice block and a ceiling fan. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6haha! holy *****, look what he did to his poor xbox360! I'm pretty sure that thing can breastfeed a baby Playstation 1 now..
- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That is the coolest ***** mod I have seen. I would buy that third party in a minute.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Xbox 360 : The Rocketeer
- gargomel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Very cool, looks very clean and fits well with the 360 look. Very nicely done.
- TenaciousMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Looks sweet with the green dye in the water.
- brentz0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4HARD OCP has a better waterblock solution... but this guy's radiator/pump solution is way more clean...
- GamerSmurf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That is truly awesome.
But what about a water cooled power supply? - cwilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6nazihatinchimp, the console IS liquid cooled already.
From Howstuffworks:
In order to fit all that hardware into the stylish and slim form factor of the Xbox 360, Microsoft devised a cooling system that combines a small, vacuum-sealed, liquid-cooled system with fans to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the 360. The system regulates the temperature of the cores and adjusts the flow of liquid and fan speed accordingly.
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/xbox-three-sixty4.htm - ap3xlabs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4did no one read the summary? a) to reduce NOISE...
did he accomplish it? yes. give him his cred. - Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I know a lot of you will find this weird, but it does not look bad at all, yes, a bit "chunky" but very clean look..
They should think If including such feature in future consoles (a bit more "integrated" of course :) ) - em00guy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is a very well executed mod. However, He could achieve much greater efficiency with some slight modifications to the water circuit. Attatching the resovoirs in a series would be more desirable as it would increase flow through the block. It would also be beneficial to eliminate the 90 degree anges in the water channel, perhaps with the use of a router bit. With these and some slight modification to the water block this setup would be quite supportive of an overclock.
- piratearggghhh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That is a very nice and clean mod. The main source of noise for my 360 is the DVD drive though.
- omenmedia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4very very nice job
- Filoviridae, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Sounds like a PS/Nintendo fanboy...Dude he did a nice job. Why not just give it to him? Why the hell do people climb mountains?
- keek4jc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"(Ignore the hideous carpet)"
Wow, that's nice. - Filoviridae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah whooptycrap. Let the guy have his fame. It's a nice project and done well.
- pseudo.hero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sweet build but geez I don't think the xbox 360 can afford to get any larger.
- sidebuster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A bit chunky? There are two giant silos sitting next to the thing. You're going to need a lot of space to stand it up.
- linus7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7The funny thing is...now that it is forced to be placed upright...all his games/dvd's are going to get ripped apart/scratched terribly.... :D
- ACalcutt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i agree...this one looks better
- vagrantradio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Water cool the dvd drive, it's the loud one in the case....
- SamX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I prefer this one to OCP one. who wants to have that thing sitting next ur 360???
- dragulaaeop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Proginoskes
If you would have read the top of the very first page you would have noticed that he said:
"The aims of the project were to:
a) Reduce the noise level
b) See if I could do it
I was not looking to lower the temperature to improve the stability. Ive heard reports in forums of the 360 overheating but I have not noticed this myself."
as in, he was NOT trying to improve stability seeing as stability had not been an issue with his unit. - xEviLxElviSx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2First Rocketeer referance on digg?
Beats me, but that's a cool movie. - smb3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes the xbox360 really is loud. But on mine it's the DVD ROM drive that gets loud when it spins up. It is way louder then any drive I've ever heard. It's impossible to hear the noise of the fans over the dvd drive. Maybe his xbox360 was different, but there's certainly not enough noise to justify a water cooling setup. Althought it looks awesome.
- itsbetteronamac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, seriously I havn't seen such a professional looking mod in awhile. That could almost be a shipping product, and bet people would buy it. The over heating thing is still a concern, I wonder is there is any air flow in the box now with fans un-installed. If over heating becomes a problem, he could always try attaching some fins to other components. But again, awsome job!
- The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is coming from a "nintendo fanboy" (please, ignore the fact i play GTA on our PS2)
I think he did a really nice job, not really needed, but who are we to tell him what he can and cant do? - eastshores, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very very nice. I like that the design was simple and effective. As for the radiators, I guess the point is to keep them silent, but Im sure even a little airflow would make dramatic differences in the cooling.
This guy did a good job, probably because of 2 key factors.. patience and perseverance. Gratz to him. - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hasn't that only happened to a few people?
- EpicSA, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4HARD OCP Did this back in January...
http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=OTM5LDEsLGhuZXdz - EpicSA, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3HARD OCP Did this back in January...
http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=OTM5LDEsLGhuZXdz - Stealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i just got my 360 yesterday and it is working just fine and does not have any overheating problems what so ever. BUT it does make a noise that can be heard from a distance. but this sound is covered up with sound effects and music
- DEIx15x8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wasn't this already accomplished back in January and showed off at CES?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is the 360 really loud enough to justify this massive watercooling setup? It seems hard to believe you could hear the fans over the game's sound effects and music.
- chopstickhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice idea, clean design..... but why not just find two silent fans that fit and install that since you're looking for a quieter box?
- BitBucket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a lot of work to still hear a pump humming instead of fans.
- jpesicka2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1in 2 weeks i'll take it to the next step. i'll make a xbox 360 jacuzzi mod. heated by the power supply alone. i love the xbox. i'm an xbox guy.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Was he able to get before/after temps on this rig? I thought that he mentioned peak load temps of 60C, which is kind of hot. What was it before? Can you tell?
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Definitely a matter of opinion. Despite the serious planning and excellent engineering that went into this project, I still think the result looks hideous. It's all subjective. :)
- brentz0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i second that, it gets pretty damn loud... but mine also seems to be the DVD drive... either way this is a badass mod and i would LOVE to do something like that to my 360... hopefully there will be some third party water blocks out sometime soon, i don't think i could manage making one myself.
- tek1024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't own one, but weren't there problems with the power supplies overheating and shutting off? Google "Xbox 360 power supply overheating" (sans quotes) and check the top five.
This is not a retort, I'm genuinely curious. - audiohacked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is one of the few clean installs I've seen for water cooling, and plus its on a gaming console! He really deserves credit and fame, because I know exactly how hard it is to have a cleanly installed water cooling system.
- edysteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just ordered most of the parts online, but the bad news is that they wont be here for 3 to 4 weeks! Cant wait, I have done this with some pc's but never on a gam console.
