- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -0/+41The Flash version has porn.
That makes it automatically better. - ka05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Interesting proof of concept.
I personally find Joost to be too clunky for repetitive use. I still would rather get my video content from the various sources across the web.
This is a step in the right direction, however. - accidental, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17If Joost were a web app it still wouldn't have anything worth watching :(
- shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11This isn't joost, joost relies on P2P so the network would not crash under extreme load, this however theoretically could.
Its a GUI that looks very much the same, not the same thing. - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Direct link: http://www.paulyanez.com/labs/joost/
It even has a digg section. - TheLD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This isn't actually joost, it's just a FLV player that has a similar interface.
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5joost _is_ just XUL, like firefox. it isn't hard to port to... well, anything.
- pastasauce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://www.neave.tv
It had a lot of potential but didn't gain very much popularity due to it's lack of a library. - tybris, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Flash can't do P2P, that's what Joost is all about.
- djh816, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4are you refering to joost itself? because there is a mac client too...
- silverweed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I like joost how it is, its a beta and needs further refinement but tv apps before this have always had a ***** UI. They are trying to take it much further and a few months from now the UI as well as the content will be better. You would think digg users would be excited about free, legal TV but instead they bitch--what a shame.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The above thread which you must have seen says it's XUL which is Mozilla's and not bound to any platform.
- sancho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joost disagrees with you.
- ekravchenko, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4One thing to note is that the quality is really bad
- doronster195, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think it has a huge potential, but I don't see them developing it enough so that it becomes attractive to a larger audience. I've used Joost a few times but the content is VERY limited and outdated.
- vhold, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2> (although it's illegal..but who really cares)
.....
It turns out that is actually extremely important to companies that are trying to make money. The YouTube product loses money hand over fist. I think it was being propped up by investors as a kind of product dumping, and now google just continues that. Basically, as long as it delivers free content at a loss, real competitors trying to actually make money legitimately are screwed and can't get established. - djh816, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2agreed. dugg for pornotube
- kidcodea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2its idiotic to grab the worse part of joost , the UI, and mash it up with the worse of webvideo, low quality streaming services.
- str3ama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that's pretty funny since Joost is only video on demand, and while it's p2p ..all the content on Joost can be found on YouTube or DailyMotion (although it's illegal..but who really cares)..so in theory, you could make a really nice flash interface and just use those videos hosted on youtube, dailymotion to run something similar .. I'm thinking a TV link site with that Joost flash interface would be really sweet.
- MattH, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can do Flash Video and distribute it via Hybrid p2p ....
http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/25/slapvid-peer-to-peer-video-in-your-browser/ - MattH, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Anyone looking to get on the Joost beta look no further than here
http://joost.com/presents/gigaom-newteevee/
And if you want to chat with some of the developers
try the #Joost IRC channel on Freenode ;) - fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why should joost buy them.... they can just clone them. Everyone thinks [insert idea] is worth way too many millions of dollars these days to make buying attractive in my opinion.
- Imhil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There's a project similar to what you describe at http://chime.tv/
- constantskeptic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1your surprised about digg fannies bitching?
- HairyPoter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1finally a guy with a brain developed the best approach to IPTV!
- constantskeptic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the quality is probably bad on your monitor because your computer sucks, either update your graphics card or enjoy your choppy framerates and quit complaining
- constantskeptic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1probably try getting a better computer, it looks awesome on mine, very fast, sleek, and smooth usable interface that actually worked
- Sabin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd like to know too since it is very usable on my Athlon XP 2000+ with 512 ram.
- b05q, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1of what, the joost software?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It would of been the smart thing to do, considering they have to make a linux client, osx client (ppc/intel) and windows. It would of just been easier/cheaper i would think, youtube clone
- pgm_01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It runs on my PIII 1 Ghz with 384 MB Ram and a Geforce 2 video card. I have to pause the video that is playing in order to change channels but other than that it runs pretty well.
- phntm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this is just a clone, joost has a bit more [crappy] content
- StupidLiberal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1joost is awful, how can it not run on my dual core 2.6ghz processor with 2gb of RAM?
- kidcodea, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4stop trying to plug joost.
its dead. - alamandrax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1you mean like tvuplayer? http://www.tvunetworks.com/
- zdiggler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I tried to Joost against it sucks! It wants to be in control, It took over the whole screen, when you use it on window mode it just took a tons of space to do anything else.
- ekravchenko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for, because I run linux and Joost is made for windows, so it's great to see that there is a flash version of it out there :)
- crossers, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0of course flash version great! It makes better!

- masskurec, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0flash is much better
http://xptweak.net - kidcodea, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1dats why i said they are plugging a dead horse...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1NO *****. Joost is the worst perpetrator of trying to buy diggs. Look at the insufferable suck-ups posting enthusiastic "yay, this is just what I was waiting for" responses under every Joost post.
IT'S NOT WORKING. SHOVE YOUR SPAM UP YOUR ASSES. - volksport, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Om, digging your own articles is lame.
- linksus, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I cant believe it, It actually runs 900% faster as a flash program than it does by itself normally!
- cmdrNacho, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1sorry buddy.. only windows client
- yingjai, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2wtf is joost? this is the first time i've heard of it.
- djh816, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1joost does not use p2p at all. what are you talking about?

What is Digg?
