- pogfreak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+54Apparently their webserver is also steam powered
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+50I wish I had the SKILL to do this type of thing
- tumples, on 10/11/2007, -0/+44Beats covering your computer in water tubes and flashing LED lights, maybe cutting a skull out the case and filling the edges with neons.
- vonslatt, on 10/24/2007, -2/+40Oh but you can! My buddy Doc is now making "von Slatt" keyboards for sale !

JvS - Solardog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36That marble looks really good from the picture considering all it is is a computer printout. The levers are def the coolest part.
- markthegoth, on 11/13/2007, -0/+31still wish he would sell that keyboard design to someone and get it built so i could buy one
- elffu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Fantastic modification of keyboard and monitor! The "steam punk," Victorian and modern theme worked out well! I'm envious!
- trogdor282, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20All web servers are steam powered. That's what the tubes are for!
- helinism, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16I don't like brass at all, but I have to admire the quality of work that's gone in to making this. Its ingenious and looks great!
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18A steampunk monitor would more likely be a CRT than an LCD, what with the tubes and all. Would look a bit more authentic, just sayin'...
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14He's got three. Do you have multitasking issues?
- beelz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Word of warning: These are not cheap. Each keyboard is hand-made and polished, not laser-cut or stamped. This keyboard contains roughly 355 different pieces, all painstakingly assembled with loving care.
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Woah, that was a printout? I just looked at the pictures and I seriously thought that was real.
- Mejogid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I think you mean authentic... wow that's an odd spelling/vocabulary mistake
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic - primetime485, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10A telegraph mouse would be a perfect addition.
- ChessPieceFace, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I'm not. I like it. To each their own, I suppose.
- NYCowboy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I wish I had the time to do these kinds of things
- xlivevilx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7gizmodo seems to have gottne it
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/steampunk/ - benijuana, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7It's beautiful
- AndySomnifac, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Ethnic? Are you sure this word means what you think it means?
And what ethnic group does this design come from? - MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Anyone know the screen saver he was using in that clip? Also is it avail. for Win.
- raid517, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9"A steampunk monitor would more likely be a CRT than an LCD, what with the tubes and all. Would look a bit more authentic, just sayin'..."
Yeah because they really did have big ass old CRT monitors back in the 18th century too didn't they?
I am not sure how you can be 'authentic' by recreating the look and feel of a period of history that never happened - but oh well. The point of it anyway, is that it is just pure fantasy.
Having said which, a lot of this stuff would look good in a movie that did somehow mashup different historical periods - maybe something about what would happen if someone went back in a time machine and invented all of this stuff 150 years ago - what would it have looked like if they did? - johanm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4id like to hear his excuse when he tries to claim the warranty
- chadel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3If they made a Pimp My Computer tv show I would watch it.
- ephemerae, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3That is completely bad-ass! WANT.
- Synthos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What an ugly background....
- tmbrwolf19, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@ dawgma
Probably much less. They only use cheap keyboards, and the brass sheets aren't too expensive. The keys can be make with buttons. So I would expect around the 200 dollar mark. Where the REAL cost comes in is hours spent making one. Also, if you don't have the equipment, its adds to the difficulty. - desqjockey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What ethnicity? Pale
- ShinjiTheGale, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That would be "Brass Goggles," a steampunk news blog thing
- scabbers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I like it, apart from that thing slapped on top of the marble bit. If it was something symmetrical going down the middle, it would look better.
- asskicker32, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I both hate and love steampunk. Cute, clever and annoyingly anal.
- nerdsterplease, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's amazing! I'm really impressed with the marble look-alike. My only concern is for the spray paint on the back. Would it screw up anything with those vents and holes on the back of the monitor?
- ChronoWraith, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow! Wonderful stuff can be made when you put lots of time into it. Great stuff!
- Skooma714, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is very cool.
- tehloxely, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What screensaver is that?
- bakagaijin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I asked about the cost for a commissioned steampunk keyboard - it's about $800.
- zip000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I thought it would look terrible and lame, but I have to say that is awesome!
- ZapWizard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Great job
- eatbeefjerky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Amazing work! Let's see a mouse and case now, Jake!
- rabidy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow, i love steampunk and this guys projects are amazing.
- Zeinobia, on 12/13/2007, -0/+0it looks like a scene from the time machine originally 1960s film , so Victorian , I love it
- paulmercier100, on 12/13/2007, -0/+0Only fine monitors here
http://www.reviewsofmonitors.com/lg - r3thsp3kt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist. - dawgma, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yes.. for $500-$1000 I was wondering about the price of a commissioned piece
- dasilva333, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4yeah that victorian theme would sell very well to some people, i can picture the queen using that in her palace, great design thats for sure
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+9What ethnicity is steam punk?
- stupidcabbage, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5I am unimpressed. There is NO STEAM POWER involved with von Slatt's steampunk projects!
Until he hooks up this monitor and keyboard (and brassified PC) to a steam-powered, coal-fed generator, he's a poser. - dawgma, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What price range are we talking about here? $500-$1000?
- bjmoose, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Really nice keyboard and monitor. I like the fact "Dell" doesn't show on the monitor as I'm not too wild about that company and the way it's being run (into the ground). The keyboard keys remind me more of a typewriter than a computer keyboard.
- qbert3k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Very cool...
First thing that came to my mind was, "It looks like something the Adeptus Mechanicus from Warhammer: 40K would use".
Need to stop reading so many Warhammer novels.... -
