- whatthefu, on 01/11/2008, -2/+28This is pretty ***** awesome but if everyone likes steampunk then I'd like to see a new, original movie with a steampunk basis.
- s0crates82, on 01/11/2008, -3/+21dugg for steampunk darth vader.
- rainierbeer, on 01/11/2008, -2/+17steampunk + legos + star wars? this ***** is great! i love how nerdy digg is.
- hydroplane, on 01/11/2008, -2/+16Damn, I thought this was going to be the relaunch of the classic dogfighting game in lego form.
- mooseofshadows, on 01/11/2008, -3/+15Steampunk is possibly one of the most interesting genres I can think of. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of firefly, with respect blending the past and future.
- whiteknives, on 01/11/2008, -2/+14There's millions to be made in the new "Steam Wars" franchise. Come on, George - get on it!
- scooterfish, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11You've heard of Jules Verne? HG Wells? 20,0000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Time Machine. Steampunk before Steampunk existed.
- CorpT, on 01/11/2008, -2/+10I would say Darth Lincoln.
- itsHef, on 01/11/2008, -1/+8The Lego stuff was alright but the artwork kicked major ass.
- BrainRecall, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7Hmm, I'm pretty sure steam still exists today. Let me go boil some water and I'll get back to you.
;-) - kenyon, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6Loved the idea (in the Vader pic) of the lightsaber looking like nothing but a rod of red hot steel.
- dclowd9901, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5It really is oddly delicious. I second the motion.
- howilearned, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5If they ever did a re-envisioning of Star Wars, this is what it should look like.
Should George Lucas ever release his Force-like grip a la Vader style on the franchise, this better be the look.
Perhaps there is hope for the prequels. - joegibes, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5Actually, that's Steampunk while STEAM existed.
- Atomic1fire, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4No.
This is steampunk vader http://ericpoulton.blogspot.com/2007/02/steampunk- ... - windmillninja, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4There are more pictures than that single one on the front page. How in the hell would that little figure on the front even remotely resemble Vader? If you'd actually taken the time to click your mouse a whole two more times you'd know exactly what he they were referring to.
- serpentor, on 01/11/2008, -1/+5Darn.. I read the headline quickly and thought this was a new game based upon the old LucasArts X-Wing and TIE Fighter simulators (best games ever) but rehashed with the new LEGO SW franchise (awesome games too). Ah well..
LucasArts really needs to get off their ass and update those old simulators. Finally Activision is coming to their senses and updating Goldeneye 007 for XLA (god bless them!) Come on LucasArts, let's bring back TIE Fighter for PC! - DeadBabyFloat, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Uppity dork.
- newJxE, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Check out Casshern, not only is it an awesome movie, but it has a lot of steampunk elements in it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk9fGI90qdM&feature ... - bigteebo, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3There was some darn good steampunk artwork there. I was hoping however to see a steampunk AT-AT.
- aaron4, on 01/11/2008, -2/+5wow, some of the coolest fan art i have ever seen. just amazing.
- mlvassallo, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4Wait... Retro, SteamPunk, Star Wars and LEGO???? That is WAY too much Genre Bending for me.
- darny, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4These just don't work for me. There's definitely a style conflict. Stormtroopers just don't seem as badass while riding old fashioned bicycles with two ridiculously disproportionately sized wheels. Dugg for great effort though.
- Sphike, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Nice mix.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2bah, missed the edit window, but now movies just keep popping into my head that have a "steampunkish" vibe:
1984, Brazil, 12 monkeys, metropolis (Fritz Lang, not the anime), firefly (with a more western flavor), pi (ok, more of a grunge cyberpunk, but still very cool), dark city (not that great as a movie, but cool art concepts), The Prestige (again, a little more modern, but still cool, it's got David Bowie as Nikola Tesla!), (of course) The Time Machine, as well as 20,000 leagues under the sea.
if anybody else can think of good "steampunk movies", do share!
as an aside, i just finished reading "the Difference Engine" by William Gibson; very steampunk (widespread computation, a century earlier and steam powered). The ending kind of peters out, but steampunky feel is spot-on. - brown705, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Me too. One of the Best. Games. Ever.
- ohthedaysofyore, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2That last R2-D2... he has Tube Boobs...
- FLarsen, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Isn't bioshock steampunk(ish)? It's not a movie though.
- kevin32x, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2steampunk vader brings tears to my eyes.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2The Golden Compass is fairly steampunk; although more in the sense of a technological victorian era, as opposed to advanced mechanical steam technology.
Also, there is the anime Steamboy; i have yet to see it myself, though, it might be terrible.
also, City of the Lost Children is a deliciously disturbing piece of steampunky noir - groonk, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1now that's just downright lovely
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1fallout has the same sort of aesthetic as well.
It's a little too contemporary looking to be steampunk though. Steampunk is more around the victorian era, as opposed to WWII-ish feeling. - itsHef, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Well, you showed us.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1b-b-but it's jedi bush vs darth lincoln lightsaber battle.
I'm guessing I got preemptively rickroll buried... (no, it's *not* a rickroll...) - GlitchEnzo, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2Agreed. The steampunk Hoth battle painting was awesome.
- mooseofshadows, on 01/11/2008, -3/+4If it's Vader, then dugg for Vader having mutton chop sideburns.
- rocktopotomus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1bioshock was art deco.
- fridenstrom, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Fallout is not steampunk, it's post-apocalypse with a 1950's feel.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1yeah, vader is further down.
still though, dugg for muttonchops - Andy460, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2WIN.
- WilD9, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2Dugg.
- Assezdefromage, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Yeah. It's interesting but it's also kinda retarculous as well. It seems to miss the concept of the all-important present...
- SIMAFOL, on 01/11/2008, -0/+0I'm loving that LEGO related articles are making it on Digg like every other day! If someone wants to bypass all the blog-articles and go straight to the source there are a few great LEGO sites.
Brickshelf.com, brickjournal.com and fbtb.net
And here's the original pics of the Steam-TIE
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=29 ...
I can't wait till Brickjournal does their article on me. I made a Darth Vader costume out of LEGO. Awh man.....this is Digg. I'm ready for it. (Yeah and you might find some pics in Dragoncon folders)
