- colonelpanic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+84My name is Professor ColonelPanic and welcome to Digg commenting 121.
Our first lesson will cover the often controversial and misused topic of pointing out dupes. Pointing out duplicate articles can significantly affect your popularity on digg, in either a good or a bad manner. Would anybody like to attempt to point out this duplicate article?
*Picks Kylde*
"Would that be [dupe http://www.davesdaily.com/pictures/340-bootleg.htm ] professor?"
Sorry Kylde, that seems to be wrong. When pointing out a duplicate article you must link to the Digg page for that article, not simply another site that contains the content. If we were to do that now, imagine the duplicates of Associated Press articles!
*Lecture hall bursts into laughter*

- rockefeller, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24I once had this idea....to make millions of dollars. The idea was a "JUMP-----To Conclusions" mat. You put it on the floor, and jump. And where you land is your conclusion.
- ikillpeoplexx, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1wowomg. wuts dat from!?!? so clever.
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I would put the mat over a mineshaft and wait for you to try it out.

- woobster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1does every single digg article have to have a quote from the same movie...then it gets dugg up in the hundreds...yeeesh
- MikeWanDo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13No, he's just backing up his copies of the latest DVD's. He's even going to distribute them in case his house burns down. That way he can go to a friend's house and pick up a backup.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Kinda like Linus Torvald's method for backing his kernel source. Just upload it to bazillions of ftp sites all over the world.

- PhoenixFire7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I ran a duplicator to reproduce dance video out of my apartment(legit). That and two other computers made the room 15 degrees hotter than the rest of the apartment even though it had all the fans.

- raitchison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Joking aside, it's assholes like this that give the MafiAA ammunition to pass laws (using their lackeys in congress) to prevent everybody else from making those legal backups.

- bobbothegrayson, on 10/10/2007, -43/+113I can understand downloading a movie or cd here and there, but if you take it to that extreme, it really is costing people money. Just buy ***** if your gonna end up putting unreasonable amounts of time like that into pirating something.
Edit: I just realized how dugg down im going to be for saying that.- Carsonauto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Smart Cookie.
- gharding, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40I'd say he's most likely SELLING it.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I doubt he's doing it for himself. The effort and "unreasonable" amount of time probably scores him a nice profit.
- Niz1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Dude this person is obviously selling the pirated goods, i don't see how this could be for his/her own purpose. Although i think the setup has been put on show for the camera, to make it look a bit ridiculous.
- mikexcore, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4reported as offensive for telling me to buy something!
- AdamFromMyspace, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3Dugg up for saying you were gonna be dugg down

- ioannusdeverani, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I have always said that predicting oneself to be dugg down for something effectively removes all possibility of being dugg down. I never see people saying, "I realise I will be dugg down for this...." and actually being below +1 digg
- thepxc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe because your threshold is at +1 Digg...
- snapcase, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I've been dug down after predicting it before. More than once I believe.
So there goes your theory, and I bid you good day sir.- Ibox, on 11/13/2007, -3/+2........................................................................................................................................................................................................
- Rezistik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2i agree pirating should be more about not being able to afford ***** and or getting back at the rich star actors and what not piratign for profit pisses me off
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not all professional actors are stars, i.e., rich. In fact, peruse IMDb for a little while -- even look up your favorite block buster. I can pretty much guarantee you that there are more unknown actors in it that block buster than there are stars. Those unknowns are the actors you're "getting back at".
- Rezistik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1hmm..i could do that or i could feel like a badass rebel....ill do the latter

- drgmdp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1who cares, *****
- snapcase, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This isn't about downloading. This is about someone making copies of discs and then selling them as bootlegs. HUGE difference between this and filesharers.
These are the people that deserver to get whooped by the RIAA/MPAA (arguably) and NOT someone who wants to download some mp3s to their iPod.
- Satanael, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2Could be a small band making copies of their EP? Could be many things.
