- darkcaps, on 10/11/2007, -5/+66"They say the recipe for Sprite is lemon and lime. But I tried to make it at home; there's more to it than that. "Want some more homemade Sprite?" "Not 'til you figure out what the ***** else is in it!"
- waxoff, on 10/11/2007, -7/+61GNU Coke will be healthy, will never spoil, be cheap as hell to make, easily fit in your fridge and GNU Coke hackers will swear by it. But, opening the can will be a pain in the ass, and require a degree in mechanical engineering, it'll taste a lot like coke but look like piss and it'll only be available via mail-order.... Now I'll read the article.

* Many of the oils needed for flavoring can burn skin. Use caution when preparing. They can also dissolve the plastic lining of a refrigerator; store with caution. "
Wow... I need to stop drinking so much soda. - quomen, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32Yeah but coke isnt compatible on Linux.
- underthelinux, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28RIP Mitch - pure genius.
- darkphoenix939, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21you squeeze it out of geeks and gamers :P
- Nonyaz, on 06/23/2009, -1/+18Yes its been done, many, many times, but this time Kevin dugg it, thus auto frontpaged.

It's molecules are also built from the ground up with security in mind, not an aftertaste. - Speed, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18This is ancient. I'm sure it's been dugg before. It was released in 2001. The company that came up with it went defunct in 2003.
Oh and you can't make a recipe Open Source, by the way.
But for some reason, I'll digg it. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18It is amazing how may people beleive urban legends. Do you realize how strong stomach acid is? A ***** stronger than a Coca Cola. If your stomach lining can withstand its own acids, it is not wearing down becuase someone drinks Coke.
You friend was told to stop because drinking that much will guarantee the onset of diabetes - hadees, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Who says you have to make it? Why do people brew their own beer and make their own bread? Because it is fun. You just want to buy soda go right ahead but some of us like making things for ourselves.
- ChromaVita, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Actually the missing ingredient is Koala. It's crucial to the taste.
- p0lye, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14...and just where does one obtain pure caffeine???
- hadees, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Has anyone actually made this stuff? Is it any good?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14The caffeine fairy.
- Jorlwind, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12"Many of the oils needed for flavoring can burn skin. Use caution when preparing. They can also dissolve the plastic lining of a refrigerator; store with caution."
Damn! Do we really want to be drinking' any of this? - waxoff, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Freedom only costs a "buck o five"... close enough. I just wanted to use that line.
- vonskippy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16Yeah, cause that $1.09 for a two-liter bottle of the real pre-made stuff is just tooooooo freaking expensive.
- Ulisses, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11I think your comment is super stupid, but that doesn't count, right?
- LegendOfLink, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I notice that the ingredients don't list high fructose corn syrup, but real sugar. It's already 100% better than US-bottled Coke and Pepsi, in my opinion.
I live in the Chicagoland area, and there's this little hot dog place that sells Doylan's Soda. It's made with 100% cane sugar and it's the best damn soda I've ever had.
Here's a better example, go to Mexico or Europe and order a Coke. It'll be the best damn Coke you've ever had. Why? Because they use real sugar. - IceZZ, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8@waxoff: Don't forget that GNU Coke drinkers assure you GNU Coke is better than Coke, but it always seems less. Further, sometimes when drinking GNU Coke, the liquid stops flowing and you have to figure out why. Finally, everyone tries to charge you to refill your "free" GNU Coke can with more coke.
- tulpe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5what would we do without wikihow..
http://www.wikihow.com/Eat-at-a-Sit-Down-Restaurant - megaloid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Not everyone wants corn syrup and phosphoric acid in their food. That ***** is wack.
- danmat06, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Buried as dupe.
- tobsterius, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You do. I stopped drinking it a while ago after I read about how truly bad it is for you. I sure don't miss it.

now you can have beer that's free in *both* senses... - kidd3ckz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5cocaine
available at your local playground - jubilee123, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4is anyone else sick of people calling everything "open source?"
- geewhizbang, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I suspect that this tastes somewhat like cola, but Coca Cola has many other ingredients in it than this. There are actually some flavorings from Coca (the plant cocaine comes from).
Coke also contains about 20 other ingredients, such as flavorings from tea, which have been kept secret to protect the formulation. - Samsong, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Rather amusing source page linked to by Wikihow:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bf/OpenCola_soft_drink_recipe.pdf - DyDx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4No-Doze? Almost entirely caffeine...
- kahlessreborn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wow making soda is dangerous, damn you FDA you told us it was the Coca and teh Kola which was dangerous! Why did you ever take it out, who cares if it killed the creator of CocaCola
- ronsii, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2from TFA"While Coke and Pepsi guard their formulas,"
probably to cover up the actual source of the ingredients ???china??? got a little melamine in there to enhance the flavor maybe? - lornefs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There are many types of acid, the stomach creates gastric acid and the lining is designed to protect itself from erosion.
The acid in coke is different and there is not as much protection from that.
Urban legends are created by bozos thinking up brilliant theories and disseminating them without a shred of evidence or research.
There are plenty of studies that show the effects of sugar and phosphoric acid. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I dropped that article referring to wikipedia 11 hours ago.

buried as dupe - th3heretic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Is today the day of dupes? Anyways I wish everyone luck with making this.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Even if sausage were open-sourced some day, I would not look at the source.
- Tsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The withdrawls DO kill, but you won't get ulcers from it. I go through a little over 2 L a day, and if I go cold turkey I get massive migraine headaches. I quit for two months once, the first two days I more or less locked myself in my room, shut the blinds and kept a very, very large bottle of pain relievers close at hand.
- thenativeraver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Add yeast? Alchoholic cola? sounds... different.
Like a jack and coke without the jack... - airencracken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Notice the lack of Kola in the recipe?
- mshanly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Haven't any of you heard of this before? I thought it was common knowledge otherwise I would have submitted it. I've yet to try it out but I think I will within the next few weeks.
- jasoninoakland, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Except for the lavender oil giving you man-boobs, this sounds nice:
http://www.healthfinder.gov/news/newsstory.asp?docID=533503 - Dimethyl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I'm not sure if this is pure or if there's some kind of filler, but it's a powder that can be mixed into drinks:
http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=748 - Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1GNU Coke will confuse and anger consumers for years, until they fork it into Coke Too and Coke Klassik 4.0
- pkacholia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0"So whats the recipe?"
"Caffeine"
"And?"
