- jokerthief, on 10/10/2007, -10/+84Pownce has the potential to be really cool if it becomes more mainstream. I just need more of my friends to get on board.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+68I just need more friends, period. :(
- FZero, on 10/10/2007, -13/+65Pownce is:
- Useless
- Redundant
- A clear sign that we're slap bang in the middle of the 2.0 bubble.
- An infinite source of spam stories on digg. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+45dear kevin
please focus on digg
yours sincerely
digg - ani625, on 10/10/2007, -6/+43!! != .
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37Most people I know don't know anything except myspace and facebook.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -7/+38How many people did Kevin Rose have to pay off to get all these positive comments about pownce?
- emmanuelsotelo, on 10/10/2007, -9/+27Pownce is great for sharing mp3's.
- cam18, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20Honest, non-trolling question: Can someone tell me what I can do with Pownce that I can't do with IM and Facebook?
- steveoco, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Am I the only one who really doesn't care about all the pownce news?
- DuxDucis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Dude, totally. Even most of the people I invite post a few notes than never come back.
They are all used to stupid Myspace and IM'ing, and don't really understand the concept of posting notes and commenting.
They don't see the point of Pownce, although they all admit that it looks really awesome.
Waste of invites really... - BigFloppy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8First few comments sound very authentic...
- Wang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Personally, I just don't see the appeal of Pownce
- coldfusion1970, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7b4tJBCtzUY7QD9Y0@spambox.us
Send me your email address and name and i'll give you an invite. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11pownce is useless
- dazman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Exactly.. seems a 180 on previous Pownce articles.
I have an account but never use it as in all honesty, it is nothing special; and thats the problem with it.
Users already have this type of technology. If you want to be a new player in this space you really need to stand out. Powence does not. :( - MisterSam, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I totally agree, Pownce is totally overhyped and un-needed. It only keeps getting dugg by the kevin rose fanboys.
- ScrumFritter, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well, of course Digg's saying that. I'll bet Pownce sends him letters like that all the time.
- eihwaz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No, it's not.
I've got an account, I've tried it, and I've gone back to facebook+twitter immediately. - AmazingAndrex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Pownce's file sharing abilities are more rounded than standard IMs, and it's different from IM because messages are posted on a bulletin boards and left there for days at most, whereas IM messages are quick back-and-forths. I don't know if there's any comparisons here to be drawn with social networks like Facebook though.
- FBombAndy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Remember how Facebook was before it was made open to everyone?
If Pownce ditches the invite-only scheme, the same thing is going to happen. I don't want 10 friend requests a day from bots. - escapedspecimen, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Can someone please elucidate me on the point of POWNCE? I got an invite, but can't see why I would use it over my email or IM. It is lacking features that both email and IM provide more of...I just can't justify using it. It seems way overpriced and under innovated. I thought I would be able to "quickly" send "large" files over the internet by some new method, but it doesn't deliver...If I'm missing something please let me know.
- Legato, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4the original rumors and concepts of an instant messening client that would bolt onto adium/trillian that would allow people with 2+ levels of separation to get to know each other was a much stronger concept than its current incarnation in my opinion... pownce is good at what it does, but nobody i know needs something like this :/
- Synthetik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.purrrnce.com (the pownce killer)
- havesometea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dear Kevin,
The name of this product is lame...it sounds like a cat toy. - Avychan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have a Pownce account, though I don't use it too often, I still use it (about as much as I use my MySpace, anyways). I really only have 2 things to say.
1 is: Open in new window? I use Firefox, bitch! Where's open in new tab?!
2 is: Maybe I'm just not very good with the website... but... how do I view the public posts of people who AREN'T on my friends list? I haven't actually found a way to see other people's posts... - code2joy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Digg has buggs (like the "log in even though the page shows you are logged in" bugg) which are very annoying. I'd rather see you guys focus on fixing these rather than wasting your time on stupid ***** like Pownce (nobody uses it, nobody's gonna)
- xpose, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Buried. Pownce is lame.
- pal32i, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2pownce! give me search box!
- chrisutley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Pownce would have been a really cool idea about 5-years ago.
- oskard, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1You can share with or message specific groups of people, while still viewing messages from your collective social network. Its like a private digg, with grouping capabilities. For example, you can choose to share messages with your co-workers, friends, or family, without specifically selecting each individual. You can at the same time view messages from all of those groups.
The file-sharing feature allows you to send one file to multiple people, and its persistent so they can download it at a later date if they wish.
The client is great, its like IMs without the annoyance. You don't have to worry about getting an IM at the wrong time (while at work, or playing a game). Instead, you may (quickly) check for messages at your convenience.
If you've ever used Ventrilo, you might find that communicating text to a large group of people can be difficult. I have all my friends on Pownce - this way I don't have to wait for everybody to join a particular chat room, or sign onto their IM client. I also don't have to worry about a friend missing out on a file/link/event, he/she can always go back and read the history.
Hope this was informative! - thomasdavies, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Yup, MySpace is the web for them.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Digg this man up!
- DuxDucis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I don't think they are going to have many people (if any at all) reply to the info@ address, since it is such a small team who run Pownce.
I agree with the second one though, I've got an old Pownce account I want to get rid of. - Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7I've watched pounce win a handful of people at my office over on looks alone. I'm fully convinced it will continue to grow at a significant rate.
"you’ll now see the next five upcoming events you’ve been sent."
This is the feature in this list that I'm most stoked for - I think some of these features will help even more people make the transition over, if not just incorporate it a little more. - blazes816, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Tried it. And it's pointless.
- jtbandes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Um, scratch that, it's not RoR, it's django.
- blt3d, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2completely agree.
- PsyCHZZZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0and here I was being sincere and all... sigh~
Nvm, thanks for the inviteshare link zdiddy85... cheers~ - accidental, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Kind of proud i posted this news before the Pownce blog even came out with it :P
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1First 10 people to submit their emails get a ***** ton of viagra spam and *maybe* a Pownce Invite.
- Chaseb, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Where is the Linux version of the desktop app.?
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1*woosh*-------------->joke
O->---<
You - zdiddy85, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1um...
http://www.inviteshare.com - birch25, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2really, you get 10 a day? i've gotten like 5 in the past year...
- Samtheman007, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2A Pownce Widget would be nice. It seems kinda redundant to run AIR when I have the dashboard. plus it would be nice to have it with all my other widgets.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Pownce isnt that bad really, but no linux client??? i mean, wtf
- etruscan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'd also like to see the ability to post a link, message, or whatever to only yourself. That way it also becomes like a personal bookmarking tool.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I could use an invite as well: jackocat at canada dot com
