Yup. Saw an episode of Junkyard Wars where they built a form of submersible , and one started to take on water in the battery compartment...and kept on running. +Digg for the article, neat! - DeepNarcosis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Obviously none of you are divers, when I go shipwreck diving in the Great Lakes (best shipwreck diving in the world) I have a 12volt battery pack for each of my diving lights, 2 for video camera lights, as well as multiple other electronic gizmos (dive computer, gas analyzer, communications equipment) that all function just fine in the 32 degree water. It's called waterproofing people! This is an awesome idea, and I've been waiting years for someone to come out with this. You have to keep in mind that if you are doing a decompression dive to 200+ ft. generally the dive will last several hours long, guess how cold you can get in icecold water? Great job, +digg for inventiveness
- rubbsdecvik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This kind of mod is a legit idea. My dad went diving for a while, and something like this would have been very appreciated. Also many of you don't seem to understand that DC power like that in batteries doesn't "fry" you when you are underwater. You would have to have an extremely high voltage to be able to cause damage underwater with DC power. I think this is a pretty cool hack. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this came on the market for cold water divers.
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't you think it's funny that the last photo of the site was shot just before he went for the dive... No reports on how well it worked or if he got fried.
- wazoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess none of you have ever been diving in cold water, it sucks. And there is really no way for the guy to fry himself, it would be the same as spilling a glass of water on your car seat heater and sitting in it, still 12 volts. Also that battery pack is designed for use under water, for light sources. I think its a pretty cool hack.
- shoota, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha i can't wait to see the article on yahoo about this guy frying himself.
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow.. what an idiot... my vote for most awesome suicide ever...
- Sandkat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Especially because he's underwater. A 75 watt power source, strapped to your body, 20m+ below surface, in water? O_O"
Good times right there. - pebecker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is stupid.
- link470, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0may as well strap a toaster to the guy
- db8us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cute. I just found this now a few years later.
An electrical heater in a drysuit additionally inflated with Argon to do extreme cave diving is quite normal.
Its so funny that all these jerks respond without having a clue.
So yes, i am still alive and yes i have done some fun cave dives which you can explore at

Michael Waldbrenner - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i agree it is called a wet suit or if u have on a dry suit dumbass

Or a hospital. - MrPhelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's powered with a 12V battery, not mains so there's not much danger except getting burned of course. The heating wire is insulated, too.
- hanshasuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude is Darwin awards bound...
- Coltron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Swimming in an Electric T-Shirt Myth"
Why is it that I can see that as the title for an episode of Mythbusters?
http://thebrig.org/ - ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"may as well strap a toaster to the guy"
he IS a toaster o.o - fli7e, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Horrible title, horrible description.
This is a heated diving suit, not a t-shirt.
No digg. - rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
- WillyVolk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No: the t-shirt is electrified and fits under the non-electric drysuit. Waldbrenner even writes "The above pic shows the T-Shirt with the wiring."
- th3dougler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0next up for the darwin award...
- chrbeam101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What if it rains?
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Especially because he's underwater. A 75 watt power source, strapped to your body, 20m+ below surface, in water? O_O
