- miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Sometimes your best effort just isn't good enough.
- krazytom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27I modded my XBOX and you expect me to have a purchased copy of OSX?
- lgc90, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Um... you submitted this first? This is actually really old. The thing is running 10.2 for god's sake.
But it's cool. I hate it when I see something for the first time, and some jerk diggs is down because "it's old." It's still cool, I'll digg it. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Xbox does use Intel chips.. you know that thing that Apple has started to use. No longer do we need to emulate PowerPC........ I can't imagine how crappy this runs.
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17SPAM LINK!
go here for the original article
http://www-static.cc.gatech.edu/~ranma1/mac_install.html - colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11XBox 1 probably does not have SSE2, making it impossible to run the Intel version of OS X. XBox 360's processor is not really built to run OS X. It's lacking some key features most PowerPC's have.
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Never underestimate the entertainment value of drunken digg.
- daGUY, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1710 hours to install?! It's cool in theory, but I'd rather just run OS X on my Mac...lol.
- 13thfloor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'm too drunk to read this article right now, sounds cool though...
- thebraineater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8in that case, without emulation wouldn't it run better?
- EmberX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Install time: up to 10 hours....not a good start
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow. That's extremely useless.
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7man look at those screenshots, I forgot just how hideous OSX used to be.
- daGUY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I never really got the appeal of trying to use a game console as a computer anyway...you either have to mod it (like this) which is a pain, or if it supports some computer-like tasks out of the box (i.e. web browsing on the Wii), it's nowhere near as easy to use as just sitting down at a computer and typing on a keyboard.
Instead of applying a 10+ hour mod to your system to cumbersomely run and use another OS on it, why not just buy a computer that can play games AND do other tasks? Lol. It's kind of like taking a bicycle and spending a ton of time soldering an engine onto it when you could just go get a motorcycle. - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3claims he forgot the site for which he owes credit
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3XBOX 1 also only has 64mb of ram which is pretty useless for running an OS except for text-only Linux or something. I used to run a webserver on my XBOX before just dedicating it to XBMC.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah this is inaccurate. Linux on Xbox, Emulator on Linux, Mac OSX on Emulator.
- nbx909, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah and pearpc is incredibly slow
- joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm too drunk to care about this article right now. I'm sure I could read it, but I'd rather just read the description and comments, and glean off the information I care about, then never think about this again. So all told, not as drunk as I ought to be.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Because this is old news....
- skryingbreath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, those mouse over-zooms piss me off.
- MattGilley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Cool and all, but why not the latest version of OS X? I'm with daGUY, I like OS X on my Mac.
- camkerr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5yeah 10 hours is brutal, but thats still very cool.
- KamikazeH20mln, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3STOLEN!
- tc811, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Don't you have better things to do while you're drunk besides reading digg?
- mehtajr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If only Apple would release an x86 version of OS X...
Oh, wait. - forgiste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the cpu's are soldered to the board. that would be a complete bitch and a half to replace.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3EmberX,
Thanks to the "new" "Reply" function, you now don't have to use the "@" to tell who you are replying too. Wonderful ain't it? :) - unleashedlive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Benchmarks?
- Sabotage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg for the cool factor. Can't imagine it being usable though. Maybe someone could post a vid to youtube. I think i'll stick with my macbook for now.
- supermanred, on 04/09/2008, -0/+1OS X runs fine on 256mb of ram, though 128mb would be pushing it.
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've actually tried this myself, and yes, it does run very slowly.
The Xbox's limited RAM (64MB) can't do much! - atrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait a sec:
isn't the original xbox a pentium 3?
and aren't there still companies who make cpus that let you run newer chips in older mobos? (I've seen a P4 for a P2 mobo ad)
why cant you get a P4 in the xbox and run it natively?
and why can you get windows natively (although who would want to :P) - indigon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lame, this is just a PearPC tutorial. You could probably get Intel OS X running in VMware on xbox linux to a (relatively) faster effect:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Vmware_how_to - benchaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1look. This isnt my forum, i didint write the forum... I didnt steal from the http://www-static.cc.gatech.edu/~ranma1 site... i found the forum and didnt realize that it was stolen.. sorry guys
- angrycat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meh, Damn Small Linux is quite useable, and if you need to do some heavy typing (ewww virtual keyboard) just start a VNC server on the xbox and do everything you want from your computer.
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see OSX installed on the 360 - as they run on PPC processors, don't they?
- rabidsnail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's because they're running an emulator.
If you're going to do this, use osX86 ( osx86project.org ). - kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think the old xbox would support a P4.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So sick of these [insert OS here] on [insert hardware here] articles when the OS is _clearly_ running through an emulator or virtualization software.
OMFG! Atari TOS on your x-b0x!!!111oneoneone - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Xbox uses a 733 celeron CPU
- dutchee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1128mb of internal memory for the xbox? OSX laughs at such amounts. Just get a mac mini.
- grumpyrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Say to someone don't touch something, and all they want to do is touch it.
Say to someone don't install OS X on non-apple hardware, and they want to do it. Say to someone don't try and mod the XBox to install any OS, and they want to do it. Combine the two - irresistable. - grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well from what I've heard it's basically 99% desktop compuer.
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Back in the days without Exposé... yikes.
- strydr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Original Xbox had a 733Mhz Celeron, on a Caymin 810 Intel MoBo. Spare parts. I worked for a white box manufaturer at the time, and we could not get these parts to save our lives.
- iDiggIt42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a problem. I'm even an admin at the forum in question, and I don't think it's excusable.
