- rokdcasbah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1definitely DUGG. i did similar work on an NES for my brother recently...i was originally going to just change the pin connector inside, but then i thought what the hell? i spray painted the case cherry red and covered with clear gloss. then i replaced the buttons with nice looking black rocker switches ($8 ea. at ace). all in all, not difficult. but it was a little tricky because i had to remove the original buttons from the support beam that they are soldered onto while still providing some way to hold the new switches in...i ended up having to cut it in three places and squeeze it back in.
i was especially proud when one of his friends said, "i didn't know they made red ones!!!" - carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this poor site is on the virge of meltdown. looks like it has some really cool content too

- kamiten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While there's nothing extraordinary about the mods shown (they are almost all simple electrical hacks), it is cool to get a list of them in one place.
One comment on the last "mod" involving cleaning the cartridge: the most common reason for NES's not running a game right was not a problem with the cartridge itself but instead a problem with the mechanical connector that the cartridge would slide into and then "lock" into place. The up and down motions of locking the cartridge, over time, would cause many of the pins on the connector inside to wear out and no longer connect well with the cartridge once locked into place. On my own NES, I replaced this mechanical connector with a straight connector wired to the pins on the NES board.
