- ubernoggin, on 12/31/2007, -4/+158Thankfully, I know an eel who lives in Ulaanbaatar, so I'm covered. Still, interesting
- duddles, on 12/31/2007, -1/+113This is pretty close to a real life Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Hopefully the next iPods will have Don't Panic written on them, and come with a towel.
- Flashman, on 12/31/2007, -1/+75I can't imagine that the melting point of bismuth will change in the near future.
- mojaam, on 12/31/2007, -6/+66Wikipedia is so dynamic so 6 months sound a little too long for some of the content to be outdated. It's an interesting and cool project.
- l0k0, on 12/31/2007, -1/+51I'm actually surprised it's only 1.7 GB. Wikipedia has over 2.1 million articles and that's just in english.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -4/+47OK so what is your point? Yes it is experimental software but everything in life is experimental. Just back up your music and if something goes wrong (which it hasn't for me so far) then just wipe and re-install. To dismiss something because it is experimental is just plain silly.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -4/+47A lot of the information though will never change such as history, information about countries, etc. The only way it will change is the way the information is presented. The actual facts will however remain the same.
- nano19, on 12/31/2007, -1/+42Very cool, but its been out for a long time now. Tell me when i can put it on my iPod Classic.
- sockpuppets, on 12/31/2007, -0/+35James Brown is still dead.
- Shootfast, on 12/31/2007, -4/+38Or will it? Muahahaaa
- vonskippy, on 12/31/2007, -1/+35scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll - D
scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, . . . . . . . . . . . . . scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll - U
scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, . . . . . scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll - M
scroll, scroll - B - inactive, on 12/31/2007, -1/+32No ***** way! Your ***** USB thumb drive is bigger than 2GB? *****!
- spacebar14, on 12/31/2007, -1/+31I find it really scary that you actually have the correct amount of dots for each of the omitted "scrolls" there.
I should also mention I find it scary that I noticed that. - Flashman, on 12/31/2007, -1/+29Well played.
- Flashman, on 12/31/2007, -0/+28http://xkcd.com/285/
- patch6, on 12/31/2007, -1/+24you loaded three folders, that's amazing
did any of them contain an internet? - zBeasty, on 12/31/2007, -3/+25Only iPods?
- Vector713, on 12/31/2007, -0/+21Cool for those whose iPods don't have internet capabilities...
Like me :( - JoeDiggsIt, on 12/31/2007, -0/+19There's pretty much an XKCD for everything isn't there.
- localzuk, on 12/31/2007, -0/+18Or more will be added.
- gbarberi, on 12/31/2007, -1/+18I think the first line would have been sufficient for posting.
- MScrip, on 12/31/2007, -1/+176 months may sound like a long time... but since there hasn't been a way to access Wikipedia on your iPod at all, isn't this better than nothing?
I never really use Wikipedia for news anyway, just facts and stuff. - EvolvedAnt, on 12/31/2007, -2/+16Anyone else reminded of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy with this? Being a portable wikipedia... if only it was editable and wireless with voice dictation.
- iofthestorm, on 12/31/2007, -4/+17Umm, at least with an iPhone you could always just you know, go to wikipedia.org and look stuff up that is totally up to date. I guess with the Touch you would need to have Wifi, but it's still possible and probably better than this.
- steveoeo, on 12/31/2007, -1/+141.7GB is over 1,800,000,000 characters. Considering its pure text with the occasional line break or hyperlink, I'm surprised its this big, not the other way round.
- cordillera, on 12/31/2007, -4/+16This doesn't work on new iPods. Why would the author of the article try it on a product that is old and outdated.
- friend18, on 12/31/2007, -8/+20Instructions for installation with a Mac?
- Firemanjoe, on 12/31/2007, -1/+13This only works on older versions! I wish someone had a working version for new Ipods!
- Spacemanspif, on 12/31/2007, -1/+13This, much like iPod linux and Rockbox, will not brick your iPod. Worst case scenario is that you reformat your iPod using iTunes and you have to reload your songs.
- quiksliver, on 12/31/2007, -0/+11is this app availible on any ipod made in the last 3 years yet?
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -2/+13When I read the article I was thinking, someone will come up and say "citation needed" during podcasts.
- Pillage, on 12/31/2007, -3/+14I put this on my iPod and I also engraved "Don't Panic!" on the back.
- aelias, on 12/31/2007, -1/+12Text is gloriously small.
- Jugalator, on 12/31/2007, -0/+116 months is still a pretty short time compared to regular encyclopedias. Many are just given out anually, and this would then be twice as often.
- FluffyArmada, on 12/31/2007, -0/+11Now duddies is a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is!
- michaelz92, on 12/31/2007, -0/+10turn in your computer, you have lost all privileges to the nets.
- versusgorilla, on 12/31/2007, -0/+9With modesty like that, who needs friends?
- l00s3r, on 12/31/2007, -0/+7So the new product has less capability than the old model? Which one is outdated?
- Murdats, on 12/31/2007, -0/+7show me somewhere in wikipedia where there is inaccurate information.
i know there are some inaccuracies, but im just wondering if you are hating wiki for the sake of it or actually come across numerous examples you can provide.
my next statement would be if you can find any of these inaccuracies, fix them. - Owwmykneecap, on 12/31/2007, -1/+8Earth:
Mostly Harmless - xptoast, on 12/31/2007, -0/+7Can we install this on a flash drive with some sort of stand alone program to search through it with?
Anyone want to make one to utilize the download file? - Jugalator, on 12/31/2007, -0/+7Yeah, and make them diagnose diseases too and we'll have a tricorder. :-) Seriously, this is stuff that would kind of be some far fetched sci-fi just 20-30 years ago.
- SuperCujo, on 12/31/2007, -0/+7It may not work on your iPod but it obviously works on many others, so stop your hating and just warn people it didn't work on your 20gb 4th gen photo iPod and leave it at that.
- 3210, on 12/31/2007, -3/+9It's a very interesting project, as having all of the Wikipedia articles available to you wherever you go would be very useful.
- wenomspitta, on 12/31/2007, -1/+7Can any1 figure out how to put this on PSP? (with cfw)
- ashlocke, on 12/31/2007, -1/+7Or until the history is "rectified"...
- Durinthal, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6It's in the rules.
- alz0rz, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6You sir, are ***** amazing.
- thomashauk, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6iPod touch...
- potofgravy, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6It's ok man. Stay strong.
