- pakakapa, on 09/03/2008, -4/+162how do you enable "stop being damn slow with javascript"?
- LLLSecretChimp, on 09/03/2008, -6/+130I don't get it: How does this trash Sarah Palin?
- xjoi, on 09/03/2008, -2/+88The Google Chrome logo to Firefox logo transition made me raise an eyebrow.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -36/+112Still no adblock in chrome. And even so, google would never let it be implemented. Adsense revenue is important to them.
- mason55, on 09/03/2008, -3/+69Chrome is open source and will have a plugin interface, so your comment really makes no sense
- tidu, on 09/03/2008, -1/+55There's a tick in the about:config that says "restructure the entire application using Chrome's method" Off is default
In some earlier builds it's called "Use 1/4 as much memory" - BlaqReaper, on 09/03/2008, -0/+51The main benefit of Chrome is how it's designed to hold have each tab as it's own process and thus with each tab closed it will completely recycle the memory (fix the memory leakage) and be more efficient. Also, if one tab crashes, it will crash the process of the tab, but not the whole browser itself. That's a completely redesign of what a browser is and something FF3/any other browser cannot emulate until a completely new one built from scratch is released.
- ifoundgodot, on 09/03/2008, -15/+56OR....I can just use Chrome :)
- piratearggghhh, on 09/03/2008, -5/+42Until they release the insanely fast speed add-on my new browser is Chrome.
- gobbleplex, on 09/03/2008, -1/+33Probably the one where you disable all the addons.
- julian02392, on 09/03/2008, -0/+30Why don't you use question marks
- ksong12, on 09/03/2008, -2/+32Excuse me, but Chrome is open source. Google doesn't have to approve of an extension... Anyone can modify it, remember?
- biliabong6, on 09/03/2008, -4/+33whats the addon called that triples firefox's speed?
- mickhead, on 09/03/2008, -1/+25The tabs being above the address bar doesn't save space.
There not being a menu bar saves space. - Dumbledorito, on 09/03/2008, -2/+26By the subtle way they make you think "teen pregnancy" when you read "addon."
- TRScheel, on 09/03/2008, -2/+25If you are looking for something like adblock in chrome I would suggest getting privoxy. It works in other programs too, so it even blocks the ads in xfire.
Edit: For the lazy - http://www.privoxy.org/ - drcosquared, on 09/03/2008, -6/+27why can't people let FF be FF, and Chrome be Chrome
why does everything have to be like something else - TRScheel, on 09/03/2008, -0/+20Yes you can
Wrench -> Options -> Under the Hood
Button that says 'Change Proxy Settings' - KloroFormd, on 09/03/2008, -2/+21I want the 'about:%' in the addressbar instacrash feature for Firefox!
Or the variant, hyperlink to about:% crashes browser on hover! - AndrewDB, on 09/03/2008, -4/+22I really like how Chrome has the tabs on the top.. still waiting for a firefox extension to do that!
- sp1r1t, on 09/03/2008, -5/+23They could always block ads except for their own.
- wedges, on 09/03/2008, -0/+16_______'s mom uses IE, don't kid yourself. Also, she has a great rack. She showed me in the 10th grade.
- mrblue182, on 09/03/2008, -0/+15Separate processes for each tab? Sorry, but that is the greatest feature.
- drakenlot, on 09/03/2008, -1/+15And what about the 'one page crashing doesn't break the whole browser' extension?
Give me that and I'll go back to Firefox. - piratearggghhh, on 09/03/2008, -1/+14I couldn't care less why it runs so fast, the fact is it does. If starting over is what Mozilla has to do then they need to do it because their bragging rights have been taken away.
- icexe, on 09/03/2008, -2/+15"... but thousands of moronic individuals are creating digg accounts for the first time to spam digg. If you say anything negative about Chrome you are instantly questioned and buried...."
and your evidence for that is where again? - apotropaic, on 09/03/2008, -1/+13You are still thinking as if it were a Microsoft product. Google can not stop somebody from writing an ad blocker and they can't track every thing you do just cause you use their browser. In fact Chrome is just google's version of chromium. IF it did have that stuff, download the source code and compile it without that stuff or find somebody who already has.
- anagoge, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12Why do you prefer that way?
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10Anti-competitive lawsuit-tastic idea!
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+10I like its speed
- ancalagon73, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10I also like how you can click and drag a tab out of Chrome so it becomes its own window.
- Jumpeplowski, on 09/03/2008, -1/+11If only it could enable Chrome's startup speed.
- SniperGX1, on 09/03/2008, -3/+12Will have to wait for a release, Chrome happened to beat the others to market which is their strong point. The next Safari and Firefox, and I would assume Opera as well will be using the same JS renderer. Once that is done there will be no speed edge between Chrome and anything else.
- nerdherder, on 09/03/2008, -0/+9I hope you meant to not use a question mark.
- mrsteveman1, on 09/03/2008, -0/+83.1 will only have tracemonkey, it will not have the sort of VM chrome has from what i see on the firefox dev page. Thats for FF4
- AndrewDB, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10It just feels cleaner and more organized.
- AndrewDB, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8Woah. I didn't know you could do that!
- goffy59, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10Open Source!
- allyant, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8It crashes Google Chrome.
- zip000, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7Hmm, I don't see that in mine :-)
When did it start giving a warning when you go to about:config? I haven't seen that before...I don't monkey around in it that often. - F16Freek, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7Aka, unless they scrap it and start from scratch your new browser is Chrome. The reason it runs so fast, etc. is because each tab is its own process etc.... If you haven't already check out the comic. It explains it pretty well.
http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/index.htm ... - ripter, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7This is how I'm blocking ads in Chrome.
- omarciddo, on 09/03/2008, -2/+9Misleading. This isn't inaccurate per se, but the title makes you think that all the features come built in with Firefox already. Also, Chrome's best feature isn't the download status bar, or the live updating Speed Dial, or Stealther, but rather their new system of memory management, which no extension can bring into Firefox.
"On the other hand, previously mentioned Auto Dial automatically populates the new tab page with your most frequently visited sites. It's not as attractive as Speed Dial or Chrome's new tab page, though. Either way, give Firefox extension developers some time. *We'll have an even better alternative before you know it.*"
Talk about biased. Here's my take on this. Chrome, once out of beta stage, will combine the best of two seemingly incompatible worlds. Commercial companies are good for innovation, open source communities are good for refining. Firefox didn't actually innovate anything, they just brought a stripped down, efficient browser and relied on the OSS community to bring about features via plugins, the majority of which IMO serve novelty purposes or just take ideas right off of other commercial browsers. With Chrome, however, Google brings it's team of talented engineers, take many great new backend features (which can't be simply brought into Firefox with extensions) and then make it OSS for the community to refine and add what they want to it. The Chromium source code is released under a BSD license. - PolarZoe, on 09/03/2008, -2/+9The Trunk build of firefox has a new javascript engine called tracemonkey, that has a JIT compiler. This makes it much faster than the current engine, and comparably fast as V8. The engine isn't fully ready yet, they still need to implement recursion-tracing and some more optimizations.
Brendan Eich and John Resig have done some testing with the new engine:
http://ejohn.org/blog/javascript-performance-rundo ... - mrblue182, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8Because life hates you.
Joking aside, I would reinstall, mine works fine. - wedges, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8better file system, applications aren't tied to the kernel so if something crashes my system doesn't go down, no spyware/adware, no viruses, no bloatware.... what do you get out of windows?
- Jernej, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6how bout.. header("Location: about:%"); ?
- ultrafez, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6Chromebama. It might just work.
- Jhiaxuz, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8She uses a Mac.
