- mushroom, on 10/10/2007, -9/+432So what's your point? Anybody that drives by my house knows what kind of cars I have. Thanks to the ***** that installed a road next to my house...
- satanatnmtedu, on 10/10/2007, -3/+190Interesting. But, if Progressive can do this, then the information is readily available from other sources like the DMV. So, why are you mad at Progressive?
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+85You mean you can see public records! Shocking!
- crawf061, on 10/11/2007, -2/+65Thanks public records...thanks a lot
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+55If someone wanted to actually see what car you have, they need your address. If your assailant has your address, the least of your worries are if they find out what car you drive.
- groverblue, on 10/10/2007, -2/+55I hate when that happens..
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+48Those goddamn progressives, always after me lucky charms!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/25/2007, -5/+46Grow some balls, dude. You know what I did when my wife divorced me? I bought a car in her name with her card. And then I had sex with her new husband.
- cheech26, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41OMG!, I went out my front door today and there was a book FILLED with the names, address, AND phone numbers of everyone in town. When will the madness end!
- krakelohm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31No he is just really dedicated to the mission.
- tnoy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32I worry more about my current wife* finding out about my newer, hotter girlfriend*.
*mention of wife and/or girlfriend are acts of fiction and should not be taken seriously. - roastedbagel, on 10/10/2007, -7/+32How about the scenario where you purchased a car, have it registered, but don't keep it at your house for secrecy reasons? Say...not wanting an ex-wife to know you purchased a new car for your newer, hotter girlfriend?
- Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Amateur. You don't register it to your address.
- ericdano, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27Digg users are dumb.
- krayzee911, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23They even have a button in the right-hand pane under Common Questions: "How did you know about my vehicles?"
Their answer: "We obtain vehicle registration records based on your name and current mailing address to identify your vehicles." - roastedbagel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Where do you see DOB required?
- skankyBacon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Where home?
- DeathBorn, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21Buried as Progressive viral marketing!
- xyphoid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16this is why i never take off my tinfoil hat.
- merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16"the information is readily available from other sources like the DMV"
Just 'cause the DMV gives the info to some people, doesn't mean they give it out to anyone on the net for free. Chances are, while progressive isn't responsible for making the data available in the first place, they *are* responsible for making it dramatically easier to access. - Bucky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18"We are unable to offer a Progressive quote in your state at this time."
That's just a nice way of Progressive saying: "You're a MASShole!"
Either that, or the Massachusetts RMV doesn't reveal this information like other states might. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18How is this a big deal? If someone knows your name and address, they probably already know what car you drive.
The Government is out to get you. Get a life. - igloo15, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Progressive does not do business here since we have regulated car insurance where its the same price no matter who you go with
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Google Maps StreetView shows my car parked in front of my office.
I mean, someone else's car. And someone else's office. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11It's funny because his plight is only furthered by his post."God, I really hate this privacy invading feature on Progressive.com, let me show it to my 20 million closest friends"
- breckinshire, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14It didn't work for me. I had to input my own vehicles. Lazy ass Progressive...
- heavyd14, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I have a list of >90% of the people in my local area, complete with addresses and phone numbers. I get it delivered to my house every year, free of charge. Its even online. Its a phone book. So pretty much anyone can get your address, unless you don't have a landline or are paranoid and unlisted.
- jkoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Again, if psycho ex-husband knows his ex's address, he could just drive by and see her new car.
- martin2968, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9true man right there
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I was expecting to type in my address and see a picture of a donkey or something...
- digggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Except 5.9999 billion people probably won't care about that information.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I have to agree. This would really only be an issue if you could get someone's name by entering information about their car. If you have someone's address, it's very easy to just drive by and see what car is in the driveway. What's the big deal?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You can input random letters for the names just as long as you have the address right.
- radu79, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Do they all know your name and address? And have internet access?
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I don't think it completely works anyway. I checked myself and it only showed one of my two cars that I have insured.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9What kind of car anyone in the UNITED STATES owns, not "anyone".
Buried as inaccurate. - bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
- zilch321, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Wow if this upsets you you wont be happy when I tell you I go to my county tax website all the time to see what our neighbors pay for their houses.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Well, it got my neighbors cars exactly right. No more, no less.
- milomilomilo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6wow, people on the internet are incredibly paranoid.
It seems that once the internet came about everybody in the world forgot about phonebooks, public records and the dmv.
I can go down to the county clerk and get a ton of info on you for 3 bucks.
I hand my cc over when i shop, drive to work without hiding my face, and if someone asks me my name i tell them (Don't you? O_o).
Lets stop getting our haunches up over normal everyday things.
buried for the poster being ignorant and sensationalist. - EclipseAgent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Now your base is belong to us
- wicketr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Maybe it differs by state? Because I'm also getting the DOB requirement. Search for Fred Smith in area code 38120
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Well, it showed my 3-week-old car, so...
YMMV *cough* - gwinerreniwg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They get the info from Choicepoint, the credit data vendor who has arrangements with all major DMVs and other data providers.
- ummmmm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Goddammit now everybody car find out I really don't have a Porsche and ride a bike and live at home with my mother :(
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It didn't find mine, mission failed.
- dallashigh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Could be beneficial in finding someone's house. After you google directions, see what kind of car they have to help locate them.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4quite possibly the best comment ever.
- diktator279, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4But what if the ex-husband was blind. If he drove by, He wouldn't see the car. You really have to think about these things.
- danielsan1701, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4How many people are currently driving their first car?
