- egbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I will summarize the whole article. Replace the antenna.
- gometro33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool idea, ***** pics
- Tatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't be a wuss and learn how to sodder. Its easy once you learn how.
- spyro187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone tech that guy how to use a camera
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great idea, I will try this on my crappy remote
synystar, I have to go through to garage doors at my place. The one that leads to the alley has a steep driveway. I have to pull up right next to the door before it will work. So, I have one foot on the clutch, the other on the break, one hand on the wheel and the other on the remote. In this case, I want my opener to have better range. - AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Macro mode
- Vladek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Note the band-aid on the thumb in the picture near the bottom. Looks like the soldering accident he mentioned in the article! Ouch!
- kaz928, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey that's my GDO remote, my range is horrible as well, any soderless method?
- ultraelite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my works from about 10 feet away do you have any idea of how annoying that is seriously
- skulquake, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1I found this on a blog about this guy building a solar panel garage door, don't know how real this is or if it's even possible. http://pdsnj.com/blog/the-first-solar-panel-garage ...
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh yeah, the photos do suck. Looks like they were taken with a camera phone or something.
- linker3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, let's all modify transmitting devices without any regard to antenna length and SWR (look it up).
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I haven't RTFA but this sounds like an *excellent* way to meet your local FCC representatives ...
- acontorer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's it? Put a longer antenna on it? Yeah that's tech news. Ahem.
- evilpettingzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Infomercials baby infomercials cold heat soldering iron $19.99.
- Darkillusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Woo. Way to self-digg and fail.

Someone needs to teach you how to type with proper grammer and spelling.
:D"
It's grammAr. Not GrammEr. - monkee13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the easy no solder solution is to put the remote under your chin and use your body as an antenna extender. It also works with door lock key fobs. try it, it really works. Using my body as an antenna I have extended my range to about a half block.
-m13 - forgiste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gross Misuse of My Time... around here we call them GroMMyT's or grommits...
No Digg...ity.... - Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol is there any truth to that under the chin comment at that link??
I'm curious I might just run out and try that haha - silverdragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0worse pictures ever.
- evizaer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Woo. Way to self-digg and fail.

:D - tomciob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i did this with my old remote (while in high school before getting my EE edumakation) and it rendered the unit useless even after i took the wire off.
i will say that even back than i never burned myself with an iron. - MrNatural, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The antenna must be cut to the proper length according to the frequency of the device. This should be printed on the opener someplace. I can't believe the author got lucky enough to make his work without considering this. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while...
- abusey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0link won't work, sorry
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great job on this, yes.... but why?
digg anyways - paOol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you hold your remote or whatever, and aim it at your adams apple while holding it under your chin. it works. try it.
get out of range of your device so when you try to open your garage, it doesnt work, and move back a little more, and open your mouth and try again. itl'l open :o - bobdole369, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is silly. I could see if he had designed and built an amplifier, or made a nice base antenna complete with coax transmission line and a balun. This is something I did to my cordless 49mhz phone back when I was 9. Not even hard to do.
- ChristopherC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought this part of the tutorial was funny:
"The first try at soldering proved unsuccessful. I won't go into detail, but at one point a bead of liquid metal was cooling on my thumb."
LOL - spacenettnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0horrible pics :-( no digg
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wish the dude would have at least read his camera's manual on how to focus. The pics are basically worthless.
- abusey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** camera = ***** photos
If you want better pictures of the circuit board go here
abusey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Before i modified it i had to be less than 20ft away for it to work, now i can press the button as i'm approaching the driveway, and get the door up before i reach it. I would estimate 40ft, but i didn't measure or anything. - abusey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've never tried it, but i think solder paste might be what you're looking for. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, because i've been meaning to try one of the heatless solder products.
- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whats the normal range? my garage door opens from around 50-60 ft with no obstacles
- abusey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why would you want to extend the range?
- statik99, on 11/03/2009, -2/+1This is why close up photos never work; blurry AND dark. Come on, what a waste of bandwidth. If you're going to post such a *great* idea, how about editting the photos first. Waste of time to read, No Digg.
- rlutterb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sh*t-tay pics. No digg.
- synystar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why would you need your garage door to open from long range? Isn't the purpose of opening the door to move in or out of the garage? Unless you've got a garage that'll accomodate an 18 wheeler I don't really see the point.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is a bad idea. You want your garage door opener to be usable only from directly in front of your house. Sure the rolling code technology present in most modern ones helps prevent others from opening your garage door but you never know. The last thing you want is your garage sitting open for hours before you get home.

What is Digg?
