- DiscoLando, on 06/26/2009, -4/+213I dated a girl who was bipolar - wonderful girl, intelligent and beautiful but prone to terrible self-hatred when down. This artwork couldn't be more accurate.
- EquesArdor, on 06/26/2009, -4/+195Did you then get very angry?
- ftc08, on 06/26/2009, -5/+171As a person with bipolar disorder, I laughed.
in before accusations of being insensitive. - Tiggereth, on 06/26/2009, -8/+156I'm sort of split over how I feel about this pic...
- bipolar, on 06/26/2009, -2/+86I don't care
- SteveRyherd, on 06/26/2009, -11/+80As a bipolar person, I find this highly offensive.
- BenTheTank, on 06/26/2009, -3/+63I also dated a bipolar girl who was a great person; and you are absolutely right about the self hatred. It's really sad that even when they are "up," it's often manic and completely unhealthy.
Life sucks when even being happy is emotionally straining. - mathyou87, on 06/26/2009, -28/+87Front page?
- SteveRyherd, on 06/26/2009, -6/+65But it is kind of funny.
- erikvonvicious, on 06/27/2009, -0/+48dont worry you'll laugh your ass off in a few minutes..
- ebcreasoner, on 06/26/2009, -2/+40What about now?
- bipolar, on 06/26/2009, -7/+41LIES! THAT'S NOT MY CHAIR!!!
edit: wait... maybe it is. - GawtMilk, on 06/27/2009, -0/+29I dugg you up, but then I dugg you down.
- coolcole93, on 06/26/2009, -2/+30That joke seemed half-baked.
- nepidae, on 06/26/2009, -1/+24shake it all about?
- nmezib, on 06/26/2009, -0/+22I always root for the less poplar puns on digg, wood you believe?
- sockpuppets, on 06/26/2009, -8/+27Back page.
- lambchoppe, on 06/27/2009, -2/+19Well you know, you don't half to comment on it
- 7aji, on 06/27/2009, -4/+21I can't understand half of what you two are talking about. It's just a picture.
- Jeepy, on 06/26/2009, -1/+17As someone with bi-polar disorder I too often times feel like half of a wooden chair. Now I'll go think about how everyone on digg secretly hates me for making this comment.
- mariusmssj, on 06/26/2009, -1/+16wow this is good stuff [read the text instead of only looking at the pictures]
- appleofdischord, on 06/26/2009, -4/+18Bipolar != multiple personality disorder
- rpangrazio, on 06/26/2009, -0/+12I too am bipolar. I wanted to run around and show it to all my coworkers, then I thought whats the point.
Seriously this is pretty funny. - inactive, on 06/26/2009, -0/+12Bi polar disorder isnt really like that
the highs are wonder full the lows are drab but in any point are you completely dysfunctional - Alqutis, on 06/27/2009, -1/+12this reflects well on all of us.
- WaCkYmAk, on 06/26/2009, -4/+15Looks bipoplar to me.
- nepidae, on 06/26/2009, -0/+10Because not everyone is a douche (that means douche).
- staffa, on 06/26/2009, -0/+9Looking at the exhibit from the front, the state looked rather mixed.
Also, you confused the maniac and depressed sides. The maniac side is the unorganized dust that will move chaotically whichever way the wind blows. The chair is from IKEA and that is depressing as all hell. - needsomesleep, on 06/26/2009, -2/+10I'm such an art nerd for stuff like this. I hope he does other personality traits too.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -1/+9Forgot to use lithium nails, huh?
- kangerue, on 06/27/2009, -0/+8get off the internet
- BaconWaffles, on 06/27/2009, -0/+8Good thing you commented, then.
- DigitalDaiquiri, on 06/27/2009, -0/+7@silverchrysalis
I couldn't agree more. Being an artist myself (a graphic designer), and living with level 1 bipolar disorder, I must say that that is a fairly accurate description of the fight for the production of work. Having never been on something like lithium, and forcing myself to be honest with my convictions and subconscious, I am able to utilize self-control and regulate my life.
...oh, and the creativity helps too - silverchrysalis, on 06/27/2009, -1/+8not completely useless/dysfunctional. i live with this disorder and design jewelry for a living. the lows are days where i do have a hard time caring or paying attention, but i build intricate settings that require a lot of sitting still. the mania days i create wild designs that break more boundaries, and both lines of work sell well. you can learn to exist without driving yourself (or those around you) insane, it takes some self control.

- IMustBeEmo, on 06/27/2009, -0/+6I met a girl once.
- ewicki, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6Agreed. I live with the disorder, and I was puzzled over the chair; it only seems to show two states: Normal and depressed. What about mania? What about the mixed states? Hell, I'd have given it a digg if it even just showed "mania chair" and "depressed chair ".
- yacks, on 06/26/2009, -2/+7Middle Insert.
- lambchoppe, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5I'm not completely bought that you have bi-polar disorder, do you ever feel like half a pile of sawdust also?
- treas, on 06/27/2009, -0/+5impossible, i'd lick it off before it had time to set
- GuitarHeroDenn, on 06/27/2009, -1/+6Just a jump to the left.
- odxWallz, on 06/27/2009, -2/+7This is the best XKCD ever!
- DLit, on 06/27/2009, -1/+5do the hokie pokie
- nullcodes, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4It won best booth, but it lost best chair.
- mqduck, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4As a person with bipolar disorder, I don't find it offensive either, but nor do I find it very insightful. Okay, it's got two contrasting halves, vaguely good and bad... and that's about it. It claims that the mirror "creates the illusion that each [half] is complete", but I'm not sure what that has to do with bipolar disorder.
- pault107, on 06/26/2009, -1/+5Umm, no.
"I knew that there needed to be two discernible states interlocked, but completely opposed to each other. I left half the chair as it was, solid and purposeful, and the other half desiccated, and broken. With a mirror in the middle that connects the two worlds and creates the illusion that they are complete." - ThatsShinfo, on 06/27/2009, -0/+4then cry :'(
- gutistg, on 06/27/2009, -1/+4Why are you typing that way? It's in correct.
