- beavioso, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15What is combined power of 22.7 GHz mean? Nothing. They're probably using a mix of different processors (i.e. Intel vs. Amd) and different generations (i.e. Pentium 1 vs. 2). You can't add their clock speeds and expect that to mean anything.

The oil is tough, so you still need a small amount of diesel, but it works fine so far. We don't have the money to fully convert it, else we could use 100% oil
If you don't fry anything else but fries, you can even filter the oil afterwards and dump it into the tank! Gotta love it - Recuso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Exactly. 30A tells us nothing about their power consumption. If it were 30A at 0V, then the power consumption would be 0 watts. Watts == Voltage * Amperage, they NEED to specify a voltage otherwise the figure "30 amps" is useless.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry, it's difficult for me to convert all units, and even then, I wouldn't be sure it'd cost the same in the US as it does here (Germany). However, it's quite worth it with gas/diesel prices here.
The biggest problem is, that using veggie oil won't work with newer diesels (common rail, etc.). Their fuel injector can't handle it, and the electronics won't let you do it properly. Remember, the oil is tough, especially at lower temperatures. You will need about 40% diesel in winter (below freezing temperature). You can go up to 80-90% veggie oil in summer tho.
Just be sure not to floor it when the engine's cold. You shouldn't do that with a diesel, anway. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2About how much is a gallon of veggie oil? What do you save every week or month? That sounds pretty sweet.

There a big difference between a processor that does one instruction per clock cycle and one that does 5, or a quad core that can do like 20+. MFLOPS or even MIPS would have been a much better description, but they list nothing anywhere. Their page says they've run the Linpack benchmark but they dont post any results anywhere that I can find.

Now if a single computer was clocked at that it would be impressive but this cluster doesn't have that and as a measure of computing power clockspeed is nearly meaningles.It reminds me of getting parallel and series mixed up:
"This battery pack has 300Volts of power!"
