Bonus: Make sure your server is ready for the traffic. - dvsbastard, on 01/11/2008, -0/+17Ninja's don't use email... if they need to contact you, they will write a message on your chest without you noticing...
- numberneal, on 01/11/2008, -0/+13the only issue i have with the 'delete' or 'archive' practice is that an email that may seem of low importance now can be more important later; so what if i deleted my client's email that read that i notified him about a problem he had to correct and ignored, that later he found out was important, and try to accuse me of not telling him. it has happened more than once, and the email in my inbox has saved me from losing a client. and these emails appear to be very insignificant @ first. thank god for over 6,302 mb of storage.
- ruchirkc, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11And that's why I love GMail.
- mentol, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8Thee tips + Gmail are working great for me.
- aflusche, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6That's why you can just Archive those emails, if you're using Gmail. Then you still have it, but it's out of your inbox.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3buried for the lack of ninjas and ninjitsus.
- res0nat0r, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3actual step 1:
use mutt - marybaboo, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3Email Ninja training step #1:
Get your email hosted for free by Google: http://www.tinyduck.com/quack/About_Google_Apps - Atomic1fire, on 01/11/2008, -0/+211. Find yourself a faster method for getting to your email
going into a browser and typing gmail could be slimed down if you have a built in email client in your browser
such as simple mail for firefox or operas built in client
getting an email browser combo can reduce the space needed for an email client and saves time because it doesn't require page load or clicking whatever email program you use - scrumpy, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3Even if you did all this you cannot call yourself a Ninja - ours is a secret society. Oh wait, damn,
- QGYH2, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3" So you’ve chosen the few emails you’re actually going to respond to … now don’t blow it by writing a novel-length response to each one. I limit myself to five sentences for each reply (at the maximum — many replies are even shorter). "
good advice
I thought this would be another boring top 10 X on X article but it's actually good. While most of it is common sense some of the points are pretty useful - i208khonsu, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Step one: Select all
Step two (optional): De-select email received from friend)
Step three: Delete
I can haz ninjah email? - mlvassallo, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Unlimited storage is great... unless you are using your companies alloted 5mb outlook account :( Then Archive becomes your friend.
- Atomic1fire, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2if they need to contact you
They appear behind you
why waste a knife cutting a message into someones chest if you want them alive
and why get a pen when its a waste of ink that could be used for other ninja things
a real ninja would either appear behind you
tell you
then disappear when you turn your head arround
or they would just tell you directly then either disappear in a puff of smoke or leave out the window and when you look to see where they went they are gone - nonstop87, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2i definitely read that as "10 steps to become an Evil Ninja"
- ajcrewmisfit, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2i'd like to add that i have emails for specific situations...
i have
1) my_email@gmail.com
2) my_email.junk@gmail.com
there are some things that you want to check once a week or so (perhaps some travel deals or your online bank statements). all you need to do is have an online account matched up to the junk email instead - rmxz, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2But what's the benefit. I have 30000+ emails in my inbox - but only a dozen or so flagged as Unread or Todo.
The end result's the same - but I don't need the overhead of an extra "archive" place. - mrmacky, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Doesn't GMail have aliases for that sort of thing?
AKA mrblah+cool@gmail.com gets forwarded to a cool label, which you can then make skip your inbox and relabel it automatically? - mikehill33, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Anything that people don't follow up with you on is not important. Mark as read, file in folder. Next.
- windandstorm, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1This will be the on the top 10 today because ninja is included in the title.
- jonesyb, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Someone should definitely post a 'The top 10 most awesome Ninjas EVER' story and see if it hits the front page. There probably already is one but I can't be bothered to have look.
- lougoose, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2With Gmail you receive all emails to your address, no matter where the "."s are. For instance:
myfriend@gmail.com and my.friend@gmail.com and my.fri.end@gmail.com are all the same.
So you only need one account. Then create some Filters and presto. Magic. - makerandcreator, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1i cannot access the site: mirror?
- CyberAlan, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Dugg for photo.

- Immune, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Digg doesn't include a neutral button so I'm leaving a comment instead.
- zephyr42, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1great article. and as far as the 'delete' and 'archive' practices, this is where labels come into play, you tag your email thoroughly and concisely and then archive it. Also what I do is I have set up pre-defined filters that place a label on them that best fits, be smart with your labels they help so much.
- smackafiyah, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1All this time I thought ninjas just shoot a little dart at you with a note on it

- benjeye, on 01/11/2008, -0/+0www.trashmail.net
an amazing tool for juke mail. it creates a temp email address that'll forward a set number of times and expire after a set length of time. - jonesyb, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Really good article. However I only opened it because it had the word Ninja in the title.
- Risk1600, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1You should see the emails in my server room!
