- Ludnix, on 11/18/2007, -3/+80I'll take the bees, my white ipod keep attracting swarms of polar bears. WHO KNEW THEY COULD SWARM?!!
- MrHawkins, on 11/18/2007, -14/+67I can smell the Apple fanboys in this thread from a mile off. The mere fact that Microsoft is coming out with a product that can compete with the iPod is momentous- all the other MP3 players are just relegated to the "off-brand, cheapo" world. God forbid the Zune actually sells- OMG ITS M$ FORMING THEIR MONOPOLY ALL OVER AGAIN!
The same logic that applies to the operating system debate applies here: Just because it sells the most does not make it the best product.
Think about it. - sirhomer, on 11/18/2007, -8/+43That color scheme is sure to attract swarms of bees.
- TheWorm, on 11/18/2007, -4/+36It's very necessary. The digital music market NEEDS competition. Even if you don't want to buy one, they will still keep pushing companies like Apple to innovate. Personally, I think these new Zunes are very cool.
- MioTheGreat, on 11/18/2007, -3/+29There's more to it now. There's this whole online Social thing.
- shortarabguy, on 11/18/2007, -12/+36Wow, I actually kind of want one if it's flash-based and 16 gigabytes.
Edit: I actually really want one. Probably wouldn't pay the 350+ for it, though. - Lazyboy0172, on 11/18/2007, -3/+25where does it say anywhere that it costs $350?
- NSMike, on 11/18/2007, -0/+20Um... What? You said the squircle was "too tall and skinny" and that you would "rotate it 90 degrees." The squircle is symmetrical. Rotating it 90 degrees would make it look exactly the same.
Hell, I don't even know why I'm bothering. - NSMike, on 11/18/2007, -1/+17I hope you're not serious, considering it's symmetrical.
- MrHawkins, on 11/18/2007, -1/+17Lets take a look at the prices, shall we? At Best Buy, we have:
AppleĀ® - iPodĀ® classic MP3 Player with 80GB* - Black - $249.99
Microsoft - Zune MP3 Player with 80GB* Hard Drive - Black- $249.99
And from the Creative website: Zen Vision:M - Black- $249.99
lrn2checkprices before you say something stoopid, please. - inkswamp, on 11/18/2007, -0/+13Wait a minute! Microsoft is in the business of media, search, Internet access, music, multimedia, gaming and personal electronics. And now, you expect them to start cranking out operating systems too? For god's sake! They just can't make some of you people happy, can they?
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+12Wow, I was going to completely disagree, but then you said "think about it", and I did, and now I totally agree.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -7/+19Apple is an Anal Retentive Version Microsoft. They dont care about their users. They only want to make money. The only major difference is that apple delivers their stuff in pretty white boxes.
- MrHawkins, on 11/18/2007, -2/+14I agree- It is ironic how when Apple compains about Microsoft's monopoly over the OS buisness, they turn around and stifle the MP3 player industry. Who knew.
- cristiv, on 11/18/2007, -18/+29Resistance IS unnecessary.
- Zeush8su, on 11/18/2007, -10/+21Have you used one? How about a Cowen or a Cerative player. If you did you would realize that the Ipod truly is a inferiorportable player
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+11The point is, if you rotate it 90 degrees you get the same thing.
I wish they just went with a circle, myself, but I assume they thought it'd be too close to the iPod, then. - naonao, on 11/18/2007, -3/+13The iPod came out at a very convenient time when every other MP3 player on the market was sub-standard. Nothing had a nice interface and easy file transfer. Apple changed that and created a good product. If the Zune came out at the same time as the iPod and had the same level of marketing (MS's main problem right now) it would probably be just as successful. Microsoft need to release the Zune in countries outside of America and heavily advertise it if they want to give Apple a run for their money.
- turpenine, on 11/18/2007, -5/+15kind of last.fm but inherently broken.
- somegeologist, on 11/18/2007, -6/+16I bet you prefer the Apple pre-school colors
- RicoSan, on 11/18/2007, -1/+11Hell, I'm a diehard Apple fan, and I just picked up a black Zune 30 for $90 off of Woot.com. This thing is getting a lot more usage than my 3G iPod and iPod mini. The software isn't that bad, and encoding for WMV is fast on any Intel Mac (booted into Windows although). Microsoft is getting there. Remember the 1st generation of iPod? It took some time for it to build momentum.
In the future, I'll be carrying this around with a 2G iPhone.
And yes, I owned a 1G iPod. - sandeepg, on 11/18/2007, -18/+27Am I the only person thinking it says "Welcome to the pocial" on the back..?
- kingkilr, on 11/18/2007, -1/+10I agree, I don't care for the Zunes really, but if they force Apple(or anyone else) to act faster and be even more innovative, the better for everyone.
- u16085, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9You must admit, the new firmware working on 1st gens was a nice touch. "Welcome To The Social" - last.fm yes... the account integration between zune marketplace and XBL - nice touch. - There is a theme here, mix all media/audio/gaming components into one big seamless bundle. I see this going some where...
- benitojuarez, on 11/18/2007, -2/+11im still looking for a place where i can walk into a damn store and walk out with an 80gb zune 2. It seems its only availible online and most major retailers, target, bestbuy, circuit city etc are all sold out online.
- chiefbandit2200, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9My guess is that it was the serial number...
- JimV, on 11/19/2007, -1/+9Actually, if you've used a Zune, nothing about it feels cheap. They're solid little devices. And your looking at the Zune 8, which is the MS equivalent of the iPod mini, so screen size should be expected to be smaller. The Zune 80, on the other hand, is one sexy device. Beats the iPod Classic all around on size, screen size, design, etc.
- shawnanigans, on 11/18/2007, -5/+13Here's hoping this can be mass produced. It makes us 2 steps away from 64GB too.
- naonao, on 11/18/2007, -3/+11Yeah, these Zunes are nice, and I am an unashamed Apple fanboy. I would have bought a Zune if I didn't already have two iPods...
- banmaster, on 11/18/2007, -1/+9So, do apple fans go to hell if they get a zune (let alone like it above their iPods)??
- jtherrien, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7You've got to be joking.
- Jayeugene, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7You're from 1995
- pixelate, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8That's what it should say on the back of iPods.
- sandeepg, on 11/18/2007, -8/+15Why am I getting dugg down? Seriously - the 's' of social looks exactly like a 'p'.
- dn11, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8the "tallness" of the screen is what allows you to play movies better when turned on it's side. the back is no doubt just one of many designs (sorry it is too "latino" for you) - it means nothing. MS has some pretty freaking awesome designs you can get for the 8 gb zune https://zuneoriginals.net/ - or just leave it blank. also who says this is the final or only color scheme? this isn't a final product
- chiefbandit2200, on 11/18/2007, -2/+8i want one
- MrHawkins, on 11/19/2007, -0/+6Notice that most of the buried comments are along these lines:
-Saying the Zune looks ugly.
-Saying the Zune is a cheap ripoff
-Generally not talking about the UI or acutal quality of the product. How many people posting in this thread have ACUALLY USED one of the Gen 2 Zunes?
-NUH-UH YOUR FACE IS UGLY
I'd bury these comments too. - otatop, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7The yellow isn't a production color, it's just meant for the employees.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -5/+11He cant help it. He is a hard core MacFag. They have to sacrifice their brains to Jobs himself to enter that cult.
- Klydethegreater, on 11/18/2007, -2/+8Love the Zune; too bad Microsoft does such a crappy marketing job.
- MrHawkins, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7http://xkcd.com/331/
- quikboy, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6Microsoft knows they didn't invent the squircle. They're just calling the ZunePad, the shape it actually is.
Just like how iPod didn't revinvent the wheel. - rheaume, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6You know Apple doesn't build the ipods themselves right? The parts are all made by other companies and assembled in some sweatshop overseas
- quikboy, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6So does that mean there's an Apple team digging/ranking up threads?
Because I wouldn't be surprised. - quikboy, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5You must be joking.
This is far better than iTunes. iTunes is just a big ugly mess on my computer, and it's super slow.
It sounds like you're describing the old software. I haven't had any problems with the migration of my media, and it's working. Yes, they did drop a few features, sadly, but I'm hoping enough users will come up to the Zune team and tell them the faults, so they'll fix it.
Seriously, the Zune program is pretty fluid, compared to bulky iTunes. - jtherrien, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5Umm... except that the new Zunes AREN'T repackaged Toshiba players. They're built and designed from MS from square 1. Only the first gen Zunes were based on Toshiba.
- CoyoteBob, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6Dugg for the word "squircle"
- banmaster, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5Well, they're already the 2nd most popular HDD based player behind the iPod (sure, its a distant second) so there are obviously a LOT of people who have bought and like it. As for this particular submitter, hes posted far more iPod/apple stories than MS ones so your Astroturfing assertions seem to be wrong.
Could the number of zune stories on the net just be for the simple reason that people are actually excited about this product? - Roger, on 11/18/2007, -28/+33Why don't they drop "Welcome to the Social"? It sounds stupid and isn't even correct since the one sharing feature on the Zune is basically useless.
