- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -23/+144I would buy one, but there is no Mac or Linux compatibility. :(
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/12/2007, -22/+120Original Xbox = Loved by those who own it, hated and criticized by those who didn't.
Original Zune = Loved by those who own it, hated and criticized by those who didn't.
Xbox 360 = Pretty much the console gaming standard, loved by most, hated by few.
Zune 2.0 = ??? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+90Please, just add a clock.. thats all I ask for.
- punx777, on 10/12/2007, -29/+78Maybe they will make something of the WiFi feature this time......... I have a Zune myself and I love the Interface, compared to the Ipod it's much prettier. They need to open up the video compatibility as well.
- buffyoda, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49Lately that place has had more leaks than a room full Tom Jones fans.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -14/+56With better video support coming to the X360 I can only hope the same is coming for the Zune.
- sexycommando, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42sarcasting
- alanflores, on 10/12/2007, -16/+57there is no way to go but better...
- Sparda, on 10/12/2007, -5/+46I bet it was purposefully leaked
- Bartboy919, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45I hope they add Podcasting before the end of the year!
- rolf, on 10/12/2007, -18/+55This is a classic Microsoft tactic - this wasn't a "leak." It is their atypical strategy - promise the world, have people hold out on any competitors products in hope of an awesome zune, and deliver less than stellar results. It works as long as they get people to hold off on a purchase right now regardless of what they come out with.
To be honest, judging from v1 of the Zune and MS's track record, I don't expect anything spectacular. Nothing really bad, but just not what it is made out to be. (They did this with Zune v1). - crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41spellcasting?
- kevin2735, on 10/12/2007, -8/+43hhhmmm on the heels of the 100 millionth I-pod sale.... a leak huh? coincidence?
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -9/+44You mean livecasting?
That's what they'll call it, right?
/slight sarcasm - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -10/+37I would love to see a Zune that:
1. Doesn't require crapware to transfer music to.
2. Plays as many video formats as VLC
3. Can bulk-transfer via wifi, without hassles.
4. Will look good.
5. Will use a generic USB interface.
6. Is compatible with other systems.
7. Hopefully has the ability to read RSS or email via Wifi. It isn't that hard! - TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34This is quite a bit for a MS employee to leak, if they're under some sort of NDA, this is blatant dumbness on the employee's part. Makes me find the whole thing very hard to swallow.
Still, if true, I welcome more Zunes in the market. I've got some tunes I'd love to share. - garryw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Original story
http://www.zunescene.com/zune-2.0-details/ - thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -10/+33i would love to buy a zune. i love the interface and the durable material it is made out of but i dont even own a computer that runs windows. having linux support (unlikely) would be nice but if nothing else, come on... at the very least, support the mac...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23@mikev
Those would get clogged too easy. - Rekzai, on 10/12/2007, -15/+36@ rolf
v1 of the ipod wasn't exactly the greatest piece of technology either. - CornFlake, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32yeah podcasting really isn't a very good name
- ihaveplans, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Castcasting?
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27you mean like all these numerous apple rumors?
- silverchrysalis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19there needs to be a double digg feature for comments like that
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21I can only hope they will add support for things like Divx and other such things. The converting of all my video files is tedious and space consuming.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Wasn't Winamp first with shoutcasting? Like 100 years ago?
- TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@foolfromhell
Whoa there. I love my Zune too, but there are things the iPod does better, namely all the niche features like a clock and bookmarking, podcasts ect. I'd love to have the little things. But I'll agree, with the big things, like playing music and interface, the Zune has the edge. - dt40, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Even the Apple fanboys should be rooting for the new Zune to make inroads with the iPod. Fiery competition will only drive innovation and price reduction in this market, and the consumer is the real winner.
- TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -13/+27@scooterMX
Yup, I love how abhorrent my completely unscratched Zune is. Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, and that includes the Brownies. ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Ha! Ho! A $ sign in place of the 's', that sure stuck it to microsoft eh? Fight the power!
- RenZ87, on 10/12/2007, -13/+26Strangely enough I much prefer the term livecasting actually.
- TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -14/+26Not to me. I love my Zune. Solid player actually.
- daliminator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16what about just "webcast" like it was originally?
i really hated the introduction of the term "podcast"... - EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Thats BS...
The Zune has enough potential as it is, we just need some major software upgrades and it could easily become the best player on the market!
I still am scratching my head at the awful software on the Zune. After all, MS is mainly a software company...their hardware should suck, not software. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19I hope so. I'm a die-hard Mac guy, owned 5 iPods (all but one died) so I would honestly consider a badass v2 Zune.
- biznite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Hey everyone, I just wanted to swing by and chime in that this rumor is incredibly fake, Zunescene has a bad habit of posting "rumors" like this...just recently they photoshoped pictures of the new "watermelon red" Zune and claimed they were real.
Don't fall for this one.
http://zunecorps.com/?p=456 - macslut, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17"Strangely enough I much prefer the term livecasting actually."
Ya, because they're actually happening live.
/sarcasm - SystmBetatester, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19its only getting better!
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -22/+32It was a failure because people are too much in love with Apple to give up their iPods.
The Zune is a superior product in every way to the iPod, except in size, but you most likely are not going to fill up more than 30GB of music, except on a Zune.
The Zune has subscription music, which is much better then $1/ song or pirating.
$15/ month is basically nothing for all the music you want.
Bad coverage from people like Leo Laporte has caused this failure which was NOT supposed to happen.
The 3x3 WiFi feature is much more than teh iPod has... but no... people are in love with their iPods...
And the "***** brown" color is an OPTION. Just like the Pink iPod Nano.
YOU want a pink iPod? Same way, Zune buyers can choose. - acex23, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@foolfromhell
I think the click wheel is an important feature to the ipod's success. Nothing anyone has come out has worked that well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16HOW do you think being a pathetic fanboy making up[ ***** makes YOU look good and Microsoft bad?
This is like saying "only 100 Macs sold!" - WiZZLa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14@ cr125er: It seems you didn't bother to RTFA. ZuneScene is calling it "Zune 2.0" while the "leak" described it in the following manner: "He would not tell me the marketing names but referred to them as the big one and little one."
It's funny when you call a group "retards" yet couldn't read the simple article yourself. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17Because the zune and the ipod were released in the same year, right? RIGHT???
- IAmRoot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I recently got a Cowon A2 and I'd definitely take it over this concept Zune. It doesn't have wireless or much (if any) DRM support (none of my music has DRM though), but it works flawlessly with my only OS, Linux. It has DivX and xvid support, which is really nice, and also supports ogg audio. I did a lot of research before buying it and it's definitely better than the first gen Zune and this one. Its screen fills about 90% of it and the controls are really easy to use. It can also record from an AV input, which is awesome. The only thing it needs now is wifi.
It also has a clock :)
If you want a PMP that can be used easily with Linux, check it out.
BTW, I'm not trying to spam. I just got the device and wanted to put in a word for a lesser know player. - Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Wow, if Microsoft released another version of Zune so soon, it'll be clear they have no clue what they want or what the customers want. THE HARDWARE OF THE ZUNE IS FINE. It might not be the best, but it's better than a lot of other units out there, except for the battery... You don't need a Zune 2.0 to change battery. What the Zune is really in need of: FIRMWARE UPDATES, LOTS OF EM.
Zune needs:
1. Lot more codec support.
2. Bettery battery.
3. UMS, no having to go through their retarded software (this will likely never happen)
4. Little firmware fixes, such as a clock...
In the long-run
5. Wifi capabilities to surf web or something
6. Games
7. Release in other countries besides just the USA.
As for now, COWON D2 FTW! Best flash based mp3 player out there! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17No cr125er, YOU maybe associate it with failure, but no...most people do not. Unless you also assoicate Mac with colossal failure. Since the maret share of Macs are about the same as the market share of Zune. Amazing considering the Zune has been out for less than a year, and Macs have been out for 50 times that long..
- bnull24, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That has to be one the stupidest things I've ever heard. I have a PSP and I like it a lot, but flash cards are expensive, and they don't hold anywhere near 30GB. And if you're trying to brag about the fact that you film you and your girlfriend having sex, it makes me not believe it. And if it is true, you're a loser for putting it on your PSP. What do you do, whack it on the go in a public rest room?
- sexycommando, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Microsoft has repeatedly stated they will keep the older gen Zunes as up to date as possible with firmware updates, and include as many features as possible even after new generations of Zunes are released.
- TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I tend to agree. Seems far too unlikely such a conversation took place, much less a Zune team member blabbering to some random guy about all the juicy details.
Unless he was drunk... - zip22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7he didn't believe it was apple's iphone. he knew exactly what it was and just spun it a way that misled people.
