- NickReinhart, on 07/29/2009, -27/+663I forgot yahoo even existed...
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 07/29/2009, -19/+613When was the last time anyone even used Yahoo search?
- GaMeStEr2665, on 07/29/2009, -12/+595Let the Bing vs. Google wars begin.
- RMoore08, on 07/29/2009, -37/+373Google will win hands down.
- RMoore08, on 07/29/2009, -2/+249RIP Yahoo Search.
Yahoo was the first search engine I ever used. Back when I was really young. And Yahooligans was a site I went to alll the time. - Myztry, on 07/29/2009, -7/+207MSN, I mean Live, I mean Bing or whatever it's called this week still doesn't have any brand respect.
- MAGZine, on 07/29/2009, -8/+192I only used Yahoo! search back on the dawn of the internet.
It makes me sad to see Yahoo! search go away, no matter how (in)/significant it is. - first2di3, on 07/29/2009, -0/+182Wow, as fast as the internet moves now days its hard to mark your calendar about things, but Yahoo bowing out of search for bing definitely deserves a notch in the intertrons time line...
- MrDoug, on 07/29/2009, -0/+163Yah-Hooooo-ooo-ooo.
- Militaris, on 07/29/2009, -5/+159I am putting my money on Lycos to win.
- Okinsley, on 07/29/2009, -0/+119Oh my god, i remember yahooligans.
- inactive, on 07/29/2009, -23/+136Why the hell does my search page need a big JPEG for a background? MSN/Live/Bing reminds me of Geocities. *shudder* Give me Google. Give me results. Stay the ***** out of my way.
- nazsco, on 07/29/2009, -3/+103Yahoo is the new AOL.
A provider of email to the old new generation. The new new generation is taking over and they will have no clue what happened. - GeorgeStone2, on 07/29/2009, -1/+93Woah, is MS going to get the Japanese yahoo too?
That's actually still a HUGE player in Japan where brand loyalty is high. - NexusV2, on 07/29/2009, -10/+79Not sure why you were Dugg down to be honest, I'm with you, I also think Google will win hands down.
Sure Bing looks nice and has a couple of nice features but in the week I gave it to impress me it failed. I couldn't find anything related to my queries in the time it took me to find them on Google.
Relevance > Quantity (Google have this finely tuned and they know it) - 000dnj, on 07/29/2009, -0/+63Yahoo is a lot more than search. I've always really liked their Finance and Sports pages. Gives you the a lot of info in a organized format for free.
That said, I couldn't tell you if it was ever a good search engine because the last time I considered using Yahoo it was easier to just go through the seven pages of the Internet by myself. - R031E5, on 07/29/2009, -0/+56If you're feeling nostalgic, click on the Yahoo logo's exclamation mark (apparently it only works in the US yahoo site).
- echolyean, on 07/29/2009, -2/+54I did, too. So I googled "Yahoo" to learn more about it's been up to these last few years.
- martrinex, on 07/29/2009, -3/+54When it was powered by Google... though that was a long time ago.
- GregFD3S, on 07/29/2009, -9/+60I hate to see a company go the way of Microsoft. I feel a little bad for Yahoo, if it weren't for them Google might have never been so successful.
- BenTheTank, on 07/29/2009, -0/+48"What the hell is Google? I just had to Lycos it."
-Cracked - RoboPimp3000, on 07/29/2009, -2/+50It's not that simple.
It depends what the cost of the adword "microwave" is on Bing as compared to Google, and how many competitors there are. If its cheap enough, and there are fewer microwave-selling advertisers on Bing, then you might sacrifice more eyeballs on Google for higher page-placement on Bing.
"The only way to beat Google is to overtake its marketshare"... wow you are a real genius. - ldkronos, on 07/29/2009, -5/+50For anyone not impressed by bing, it has at least one killer feature. I learned about it a few weeks ago in the thread about the mayor that got fired for marrying a porn star (though I don't recall who deserves the credit).
1) go to http://www.bing.com/videos/
2) search for Jazella Moore (that's the porn name of the mayor's wife)
3) It will probably say no results found. Click on the "change" link for safesearch (right under the search box)
4) Set it to off
5) Behold the relevency of search results.
6) If you have flash installed, try hovering the mouse over any of the thumbnails
7) [I don't want to know what you do next] - LucasHenderson, on 07/29/2009, -1/+44Pah. I'm sticking with AltaVista.
- Coolermatt, on 07/29/2009, -0/+43....How long has this been there?
- wildfire, on 07/29/2009, -1/+44http://m.bing.com
- UnlivedPhalanx, on 07/29/2009, -0/+33So basically now it's totally moot if they would've bought Yahoo or not since they have all of Yahoo's traffic that searches which is where the money is. That's ironic =p
- LPfmAAF, on 07/29/2009, -0/+30i wonder how much ask.com lost in market share when they got rid of jeeves. i have never gone to the website since
- AlphabetFetish, on 07/29/2009, -1/+30Believe it or not it's still widely used. It's only behind Google in internet traffic .
- nazsco, on 07/29/2009, -1/+30yahoo = zimbra, delicious, flickr, yql, pipes, yui...
- Okinsley, on 07/29/2009, -2/+30sucks.
- Dumbledorito, on 07/29/2009, -3/+29Damn. And I was just about to try Yahoo search. I was almost ready to trust it as much as Alta Vista and Webcrawler.
* fires a gob of terbackey juice into a brass spittoon * - yocouchdigga, on 07/29/2009, -1/+25balls.
- mikeliketrike, on 07/29/2009, -1/+24seriously
- Gerbil_Juice, on 07/29/2009, -2/+25My dad and step-mom use it. It annoys me.
- Hypomanic, on 07/29/2009, -0/+23Does anyone remember Lycos? Or Northern Light? Or Xoom, which everyone said was way better than Geocities because it gave you 100MB and a lot of fun "crazy" page counters.
And then Google appeared. And it was this mysterious hyper-simple thing... that worked. Oh nostalgia, you are lame. - roomaustin, on 07/29/2009, -2/+25Better than my great aunt twice removed, she used to use ask Jeeves, then she used yahoo then she use msn then she used bing then google, now she's dead. And she won't listen to me either.
- Arcanis, on 07/29/2009, -0/+22I never used Yahoo.
Altavista is where it was at. - TheAbdBoy, on 07/29/2009, -2/+23Ya-who?
- Invadercon, on 07/29/2009, -1/+22http://bing-vs-google.com/
- gamepr0, on 07/29/2009, -2/+23dude.
- Grogs, on 07/29/2009, -1/+21Too much use of "u", and "kool" (once is more than enough - although at least it wasn't kewl). Also, FYI, there's people outside of America.
- plainOldFool, on 07/29/2009, -0/+20I can't remember the last time I used Yahoo search. However, I do use Yahoo everyday as a news portal and for MLB coverage. If I need to search I ALWAYS use Google. I use Yahoo for everything else.
- Myztry, on 07/29/2009, -1/+20You can bet it won't use a voting system. The 4chan crowd would love that...
- mattyvan, on 07/29/2009, -2/+20WTF
- Myztry, on 07/29/2009, -0/+18Yahoo was more an index than a search engine. At least when I last used their services :)
- gizmo12688, on 07/29/2009, -1/+19AskJeeves, bitches.
- justsomedigger, on 07/29/2009, -2/+20hahahaha, i havent heard anyone even say "lycos" in close to a decade!
- inactive, on 07/29/2009, -1/+19Hotbot ftw
- plainOldFool, on 07/29/2009, -1/+18Tried it. Yahoo news is far more intuitive than Google. I like Google a lot and I will always choose gmail over Yahoo mail any day of the week. I also use Google Docs, Google Calendar, Picasa and even Google Notebook (even though they have officially ended that project).
I like Google technology. But for news and lifestyle stuff (finance, food, sports, etc.), Yahoo is far superior. At least in my humble opinion. -
